We wanted to like this place because overall it was okay. The flavors were decent and nothing was terrible. But the biggest issue is the protein portions. Every dish felt noticeably light on meat.
The “special” pho was especially disappointing. When you order a special pho, you expect a generous mix of meats. Instead, it was clearly lacking. Very little beef, minimal variety, and it just did not feel like a proper special.
They also had a specialty fish and shrimp dish, but by 5:00 p.m. they were already out of fish. That is way too early in the evening to be running out of a core ingredient. If you know fish is a key part of a signature dish, inventory should be planned better. The restaurant refused to add more protein, even after we address the situation. Completely unacceptable customer service.
The food was overall pretty good and tasted fresh. The broth could have been more clearer and bit more beef flavours. It’s decent for a city with a smaller Vietnamese community.
We had a large group but service was friendly and attentive, getting our food out quickly.
We ordered Pho with Chicken. While the Pho was good, the chicken we did not like at all. There was way too much of noodles. Also, the broth could be more richly flavored. We felt it was mild. However, the Pork Stir Fry with Spicy Lemongrass and Chilli sauce with bell peppers and onions saved the day. This dish was spectacular. The flavors were awesome and the peppers and onions had a very good crunch. Would go back again and again, just to have this dish.
Service was quick and pleasant. The only reason I took off a star was because I expected more from the Pho.
I may be a little biased but honestly Pho Quyen is one of the best Viet cuisines in the area. While I’m not the biggest fan of the Pho, the other dishes are always a hit and I love trying different items.
My top faves that I highly recommend are of course the fresh summer rolls, the roasted quail app or the pepper shrimp app; the cubed butter beef with a side of fried rice; newest fave is the angel hair with grilled pork; and finally, my most fave since they are the only ones that offer it around here, whole fried pompano. When I ask for it, the owner generally knows who it is lol!
Do yourself a favor and try out these dishes. I’ve watched this place come a long way and are well worth becoming your favorite as well. Huge shout out to Tommy and Stephanie for being the awesome servers that help keep this place popping! I look forward to seeing them when me and my bf come by.
