If you’re looking for a crash course in authentic Vietnamese home cooking, skip the usual pho queue and head here. Pho Hoa Hong isn’t playing the greatest hits; they’re serving up genuinely rare, traditional flavors.
We went deep on the menu: Fish in Sour Soup (Canh Chua Cá), Caramelized Pork (Thịt Kho Tộ), and Caramelized Fish (Cá Kho Tộ). The flavour profile of the Canh Chua was spectacularly authentic.
Woven into the authenticity is an impressive efficiency: we pre-ordered 30 minutes out, and the food was waiting for us, perfectly hot. Be warned, the portions are wildly generous. We ate until we needed a nap and still bagged enough leftovers for an entire extra adult meal.
Verdict: Come for the rare, authentic dishes; stay because the portions are trying to feed a small army. Highly recommended for a genuine taste of Vietnam.

Happy to have done the flooring for their new location opening soon on Kingsway, Burnaby
The owner treated us to lemongrass chicken and beef with rice during our lunch break and it was honestly one of the best meals I’ve had.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for real Vietnamese cuisine and amazing food. Can’t wait to come back as a customer

Unbelievable! If you see the restaurant it is a typical hole in the wall. I’m always up for trying new things and to my surprise, the pho was really good! Expertly prepared and the soup was flavorful and fragrant. Ingredients were fresh and absolutely delicious. Service was very friendly and pleasant too. This was a happy find.

Very reasonably priced $13 for a medium and $16 for a large. The pho soup was a little bland but the spring rolls were great! Decent portions and fast service. Looks family-run. They accept credit cards.

Reasonable price and what you expect from a Vietnamese diner. Workers are kind. Broth could use a little more seasoning, but they have lots of seasoning types on the table for your preference.

Delicious authentic vietnamese dishes! We go here for some vietnamese comfort dishes that remind me of home. The caramelized fish (ca kho) is rich in sweetness and savouriness. My partner loves the caramelized pork (thit kho) which is comes in a sizzling clay pot and is super black-peppery and salty as well. Both are delicious over rice and remind me of a mothers cooking. We always always order the sour shrimp soup (canh chua tom). Cooked with pineapple and various veggies, this soup is perfectly sour and sweet at the same time. I warn that the saltiness and sourness of these dishes are meant to be this way!! You must eat them with rice! Definitely something to try!! We have been coming here for years and will continue to recommend to friends.

Been going here for years. The staff is so friendly. They Remeber my order since the first time I came. Never have used a menu. It’s a smaller restaurant so it can get busy. The pho is amazing and good portions. This is a great place if your looking for something cozy.

We were visiting BC for a few days and stopped in after a long day out and about. The front and inside are pretty nondescript though the food was inexpensive and delicious. We asked for water and the person who brought it out said in a deadpan voice that it’s the purest water in BC. It was great-tasting water indeed and apparently he used to have a side business selling BC water to Los Angeles. The pho and grilled pork/vermicelli/egg roll combo were perfect.
