The service was great and quick, the owner was very sweet and the food came out very quick. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just like any pho restaurant in vietnam. It was very authentic. We were given many garnishes for our pho and had lots of condiments to pair with it. I would 100% eat here again

Small restaurant but the food is so good! Before you add to the pho broth taste it, best pho I have ever had and it doesn’t need anything added.

Pho 99 in Hilo is a true hidden gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with genuine kindness and warmth from Charlie and his wife, who run the restaurant with a family-oriented style that makes you feel right at home.
The food is fresh and flavorful, with a balance that highlights the quality of ingredients without being over-seasoned. Their dishes carry an authenticity that’s comforting yet light. A standout recommendation is the pork and spring rolls served over vermicelli with chopped vegetables – perfectly cooked, crisp, and satisfying in every bite.
What makes Pho 99 extra special is Charlie himself. Beyond serving a great meal, he takes the time to share his own list of recommended places to visit around the Big Island, giving you that personal, local connection you don’t often find. It feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a friend’s home.
Pho 99 is more than just a restaurant – it’s a heartfelt experience that blends amazing food with genuine hospitality. A must-visit when in Hilo.

Delicious!! Fresh herbs and super flavorful broth, yummy crispy spring roll, cold noodle salad! Super sweet tata served us quickly. One of those ‘better than expected’ places. Prices are fair and worth it in my book. Everything we ordered was ono. We even had live entertainment form one kronic singing out on the street.

This place is a sleeping giant. The entire party thought the food fabulous. Twenty years ago I wrote restaurant reviews. This place deserves lots of good attention and vibes. I loved the food. I had the shrimp papaya salad. Yum! Can’t show a picture. I just have an empty plate.

Authentic Vietnamese food!
It’s definitely a hole in the wall type of place but the food is incredible and the owners are super sweet. It’s run by a man and his wife. She does the cooking and he runs the front end. When you walk in, grab a menu, and then sit down. They have only a few tables but they get everyone fed and served quickly.
The food is top notch. Some of the best pho I’ve had. We have tons of Vietnamese restaurants in my home town and this was definitely one of the best I’ve had.

Surprisingly legit Viet food served in a cozy cafe environment by a really kind and generous owner with very reasonable prices!
The papaya salad was so delicious- generous portion of shredded green papaya topped with lots of crunch peanuts and fried shallots. The entire table gobbled it up. I had a small chicken pho and it was super refreshing, light, and savory with lots of tender chicken pieces. It was plenty for my stomach! The owner was so kind towards our school aged child, he brought out a balloon and candies for her and it made her day. So sweet and kind!

The perfect lunch time spot. Pho is perfect if a cool rainy Hilo day. Love to doctor Pho with the condomints they provide. They were out of Banh Mi and spring rolls when I arrived at 1. Search Allie Wong perfect Vietnamese restaurant, this fits the description.

Food is insanely delicious. Large portions. Other reviews will mention no AC but it’s about 83F outside and it feels pretty cool in here with the fans running so I don’t think it’s an issue. Highly recommend eating here if you’re in Hilo. Photos shown are the chicken spring roll noodles and tofu papaya salad, photos don’t do justice to their taste and size. Both amazing.
