Stalwart, informal eatery in a quaint home serving breakfast dishes, sandwiches & Italian entrees.

Meh… has potential, home cook instead of professional cook quality food & seasoning.
Soft scrambled eggs were overcooked, no seasoning.
Potatoes had nice texture, lacked seasoning.
House made Italian bread was lovely.
Sausage & biscuits… watery, lacked salt, no nutmeg, made with Italian sausage not breakfast.

I recently visited Peter Pause, and the first word that comes to mind is cozy It’s a small, inviting spot with just 2-3 people running the kitchen. I think it might be my new favorite breakfast place in the area, and I can’t believe they’ve been family-operated since 1958!
I had their grilled pumpkin muffin (YUMMMMMM), pumpkin coffee, and the SPP sandwich — sausage patty with provolone and peppers with Mac n’ cheese on the side. That sandwich was so juicy and thick! My boyfriend ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette and corned beef hash on the side, which was fantastic. I can’t wait to return and try their pancakes next time ^_^

Oreo pancakes were great, I was worried the Oreo would be overpowering but it was a good balance.
The bacon was the best I’ve had in the area. Corned beef is my favorite in Schenectady so far.
I got delivery so the eggs ended up being a bit overdone.

First timer for breakfast. Place was empty. Food was prepared fast but the toast was burnt. Seems like it should have been fixed since there was no one else waiting for food. Place looked clean enough and the waitress was nice so no issues there. The eggs were good, the bacon was good but the potatos weren’t very good at all. Tasteless and barely warm. The coffee was terrible. The french toast was pretty good, nice and moist but it could have used real maple syrup. Not the end of the world though and the stand out of the meal. This place seems like a standard 2.5 but I bumped it up to a 3 because the staff was nice and that matters.

Awesome diner! If you want breakfast this is the place! The staff are awesome and super helpful! We went as a large group and they accommodated us as best they could. The food was very good and came out really quickly for what was ordered. If you get toast do not miss the Italian bread!

Experienced very very poor service from the two ladies working morning shift recently. I would not subject yourself to this level of carelessness, they were very rude. Been in Schenectady my entire life and never been talked to and treated how I was at Peter pause (specifically the two women). Can’t justify giving them my money anymore after how I was personally treated. Atomosphere was 5 stars visually

Excellent meal! Felt like I went back in time. To the good old diner days. Best coffee I have had in a long time! My Greek omelet was cooked to perfection! Device was great too!

Peter Pause is one of the best, if not THE best, breakfast place in Schenectady! Good old fashion diner feel, HUGE portions of food and beyond reasonable prices. The staff is really down to earth, personable and always have a smile for you. I can’t recommend this place enough ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent food, the home made Italian bread is just about the best I’ve ever had. The service and atmosphere: one word, authentic. This place is the real deal. Can’t wait to come back again.

Peter Pause is a Schenectady classic. Delicious breakfast, friendly atmosphere, old-timey feel. I recently had an egg, cheese, avocado, and tomato sandwich on their Italian bread (bread was buttered and grilled). It was sinfully good.
