While the idea of showcasing authentic Peruvian flavors is admirable, execution at Peruvian Charcoal & Grill leaves much to be desired. Despite lofty expectations set by its menu and pricing, the restaurant underwhelms in key areas.
Whole Fried Fish: this dish demands perfection but delivers mediocrity. The fish arrived soggy, its crispness sabotaged by the moisture from the accompanying sautéed vegetables. Furthermore, the cumin seasoning, while bold, lingered excessively, overpowering the natural flavors of the fish. For the cost, patrons would expect not only a satisfying portion but also the potential for leftovers, which was regrettably not the case.
Yuca: A bright spot amidst the disappointment. The yuca was tasty and competently prepared, though far from extraordinary.
NY Steak: Adequate at best, the steak lacked any distinguishing qualities to justify choosing it over offerings at nearby establishments.
Presentation & Containers: Serving dishes in foam containers undermines the dining experience, making the food cumbersome to enjoy and further detracting from the perceived value.
Service: Alba, who took the order, stands out as a beacon of positivity in an otherwise lackluster experience. Her warm and welcoming demeanor was one of the few highlights of the visit.
⏳Wait Time: A 45-minute wait compounds the frustrations, especially when the end result is underwhelming.
♂️In summary, Peruvian Charcoal & Grill must make significant improvements to rise to the level expected of its concept and pricing. From enhancing food quality and presentation to rethinking its service approach, there’s plenty of room for growth. Until then, diners might find greater satisfaction at established competitors like Sardi’s or even the prepared food section at Whole Foods or even Giant Food across the street.
The fries were nothing more than cardboard. It seems that the fries type of their choosing do not accommodate the style of food (dishes) being severed there. I skipped the fries, so they went straight to the trash. The mix veggie was okay, but the bite should be at least half of that (Choking hazard) . The Coleslaw was acceptable. It could use a tad more of sugar. The yucca samples I had received were less than okay but far better than the stale fries I was served. The house sause “green vs yellow” was subpar at most. There’s not much to distinguish in taste other than the heat index. Overall, the restaurant needs to focus on certain dishes and not have too many options as the quality of food is diminished. At this time, I would not recommend it. Perhaps I will try again in a few months again if this establishment still exhibits.
The sides are just as good—crispy fries, fresh salad, and that incredible green aji sauce that I could eat with everything. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick. The atmosphere is casual but cozy, making it a great spot for both family meals and quick takeout.
Overall, it’s one of the best places to enjoy authentic Peruvian flavors without leaving town. Highly recommend if you love flavorful grilled food!
Chicken is well seasoned, juicy, and tasty. Green and white sauce are good as well, but I barely needed it when the chicken was already seasoned so well. We loved the green beans and fried rice.
Service might be a little slower, but they need more volume to justify hiring more staff for both front and back of house, so it’s understandable, especially since they just opened.
This place will be in the weekly dinner rotation!
