Peru Criollo is the best Peruvian in Chicago by far. My fiancée and I loved the food, the restaurant, the music and the staff is the kindest. Everything about this place is nurturing. Araceli made sure we only had to worry about enjoying their incredible food. Can’t wait to visit again

Perú Criollo – Authentic Peruvian Flavors in Chicago

We visited Perú Criollo and really enjoyed it! The ceviche was delicious — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Overall, all the Peruvian dishes we tried were excellent. The lomo saltado was tasty as well, though it could be a little better — maybe a bit juicier or with a stronger flavor.

Still, the overall experience was great: friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and dishes made with that homemade touch you can really taste.

A place worth visiting again to enjoy authentic Peruvian cuisine in Chicago! ✨

Everything we had was excellent It’s BYOB which is a welcome relief these days. Our server Airi was so sweet and attentive.

For appetizers: The papas rellenas carne were wonderful (like a fried potato ball filled with beef battered & deep fried-arancini like appetizer). The ceviche was great! The sweet potato that came with was so nice. It had shrimp, octopus, and fish. The Churrasco Peruano – Grilled Ribeye Steak with Sautéed Onions was excellent! The garlic rice and Peruvian beans that came with were very nice. The lHuachinango Frito con Crema de Ajo – (Fried Red Snapper) fish was yummy! Lomo Saltado was also yummy! The three of us shared the Peruvianflan and it was down home great! Can’t wait to go back, and will definitely order take out!! What a find!

I had the mixed ceviche, seafood Peruvian paella, and chicha morada drink. All of it tasted great! Highly recommend for authentic Peruvian food such as Chifa, lomo saltado, and anticuchos on their menu. Server Alejandra did a wonderful job!

My partner and I just had dinner here for our anniversary ( less than 15 minutes ago). We live about a 5 minute walk away and are upset that we didn’t start coming here sooner. The kindness of the staff was very genuine and not fake or forced. Alejandra our server was amazing! We had the tamal to start and were hooked from the first bite. We could have eaten 5 of them. My partner had the arroz con mariscos (think seafood paella) and I had the cau cau, a tripe stew. The food came quick and was expertly made. I’m a chef who’s worked in fine dining for almost 15 years and I recognize passion in food and whoever is in that kitchen has it. We will be returning often with friends and family.

Side note: I love looking at the bad reviews of restaurants because after working in the culinary industry for so long you realize that people with no authority love putting down perfectly fine establishments because they think they know better. Upon looking at the 1 star reviews for Peru Criollo I was ecstatic to see the owner clapping back on every bad review. Go take a look! It’s so amusing. The owner sticks up for their staff, stands their ground on the quality of their food and is unapologetic when refusing service to a group of 10 who had the nerve to show up on a weekend without a reservation. I loved seeing it so much. To the owner, you’ve cultivated a gem. You know what you want your restaurant to be and you don’t let people’s opinions change that. To the people that insist on leaving bad reviews that could potentially hurt a business, you’re trash.

To sum it up, the food is AMAZING and the quality of the staff serves to enhance the experience. Also the decor is beautiful and the music is .

We were looking for a spot to have a great ceviche and we found an exquisite ceviche on Causa, a stunning beef stew and chaufa rice. No words. Amazing. Will come back definitely.

I traveled to Peru back in 2023. This restaurant is as authentic as you can get and the ingredients are fresh! Every choice we got was 10/10 on flavor (Ceviche Mahi Mahi, Tallerines Verdes con Steak, and Seco de carne).

Our waitress was Aracely. She is an incredible waitress. She has great recommendations for your taste and is attentive to your experience.
