If you want overpriced freezer aisle Chinese food, this is the place for you. Nothing we had was authentic, it all came straight from the freezer aisle or other shelf at the local grocery. Bland, absolute garbage. Even the the sweet and sour sauce came out of the La Choy bottle and forget about duck sauce, you’re not getting it. The fried rice, was literally just their steamed white rice with soy sauce in it. Only bright side was the kids working the floor. I’ll get Chinese food somewhere else. I’ve added all the pictures of what you can get at the store and it will be just the same, just cheaper.

These are the rudest people that I’ve ever met that are in business for themselves. I put on an order in at 6:21 and was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. Which is fine, I figured they were busy.
I went to pick it up at 7:20, there were people at only 2 tables and my order was still not ready. I asked why and said I felt this I had been plenty generous in my wait time and asked her to make it right. I was then accused of being rude and was asked simply if I would like my food or cancel the order. WOW REALLY? Needless to say the food was thrown away as I listened to them tell a different online order their food would be ready in 25 minutes. This was my Mother’s Birthday Dinner – thank you Peony Chinese Restaurant.
*** Came back a second time because I love Chinese food and this is the only option in town… food was excellent – House Fried Rice and Hot & Sour Soup. Great service this time, a little slow still but totally made up for it in flavor so felt the need to edit. Thank you for the improvement!

We love Peony. We just returned from an Alaskan cruise where the food was amazing. Yet, my husband one day at lunch had some stir fry from the buffet on the ship. His comment was “Peony is better”. We compare every Chinese place to Peony. We believe the food tastes great at Peony and you cannot beat the owners; they are so nice and always happy. We greatly enjoy eating here. Thank you, Peony.

Very nice little restaurant with decent food. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is it’s a little Bland for me but overall the food really was good and very fresh and I highly recommend the hot tea to go with it.

We have tried many Chinese restaurants across a wide range of Iowa and some different places in the United States . Peony in Jefferson is the best place we’ve found. The atmosphere is friendly and quiet enough to have easy conversations. The food is delicious every time we have eaten there and I often like to order variations from the menu. The prices are very reasonable with a good selection. We order at least 2 dishes each to have about 3-4 meals from our orders. I always recommend people make the drive to enjoy the BEST!
