I was attending an event in Evansville, Indiana and needed a place to stop for a quick bite to eat. It was a Sunday, so options were limited, but decided to try Peephole Bar & Grill. For a Sunday, it was pretty busy, and here’s where the problems began. There was only one server trying to cover the entire establishment. I did a head count and there were 50+ people in the bar. While the waitress was kicking ass and taking names, it definitely affected the time to get waited on, the time to get orders in, brought to tables, and time to get a check. We ordered 2 beers and one basket of chicken strips. It took 30 minutes to get four chicken strips. They were fine, nothing special, but 30 minutes? All of this boils down to poor management or ownership. They obviously don’t care about their employees as evidenced by one person trying to cover everything from taking orders, to making drinks, cashing out checks, bussing tables.

I’ve visited this bar a few times while in town for work and usually had a decent experience, but my most recent visit was disappointing and uncomfortable.
I was sitting at the bar by myself, next to two other women I didn’t know. When I received my receipt, I noticed it was labeled with “Bgirl.” When I asked the server about it, they said it meant “bar girl.” That explanation didn’t make sense, since my receipt was already categorized as “bar,” and there were other women seated nearby whose receipts did not have the same label.
I was surprised and uncomfortable to see “Bgirl” on my receipt—especially as I was the only Black woman in the bar that evening. When I brought it up, the server, Reid, was very cold and unwelcoming. Both Reid and another waitress remained distant afterward, offering no warmth, explanation, or reassurance that their establishment would never label a patron as “Black girl” on their receipt.
Regardless of intent, labeling customers in a way that could be interpreted as referring to race or appearance is unacceptable. I hope management takes this seriously and reviews their staff practices and point-of-sale system to ensure every guest feels respected and valued.

If you want some hole in the wall vibes then this is your spot. We tried the onion rings, German bologna sandwich and cheeseburger. All very good. Make sure to load up the juke box with your favorite tunes as well.

If you like beer on tap and fried food, this is the place. They have mixed drinks, too, but if you order a screwdriver you might get a literal screwdriver.

This is a neat little dive bar in downtown Evansville. They have a nice selection of craft and domestic beers on draft. The food is classic greasy bar food (good burger and onion rings).

I really don’t want a lot of people knowing what a gem this place is.

Not much to add that the other reviews didn’t cover. The vibe was chill and the service was quick and they were super polite. The bacon cheeseburgers were great and stacked with bacon.

THIS PLACE – If/when downtown I will ALWAYS recommend coming here. The food is great, drinks are amazing, our reg server and bartender are both hands-down the best people. And the price is legit the best you can find in the area. This place doesn’t cost an arm and a leg either.
10/10 would recommend
