Pearly Cow, Margate

Social Profile:

Kent is a county with two names. The Garden of England is the one it earnt hundreds of years ago, which we celebrate at Pearly Cow Margate. It was down to its rolling hills, fertile pastures, teeming waters, wild-flowering woods, chalk grasslands, and ancient orchards. And the prolific growing culture it is known for is still carried in the skills of today’s organic producers, higher-welfare farmers and specialist cultivators. This abundance of bright British flavours is celebrated at Pearly Cow, Margate, to the views of the North Sea stretching out to the horizon. The open kitchen’s grill caramelises cuts and catches of the day, and the ice counter promises the richness of rawness. Vibrancy and freshness are everything here.

Came here as part of Margate Resturant Week where local resturants were offering three course menus for £20.25 per person. Although it didnt work with the MRW brief of three courses, as I called up to book, I was made aware that it was really one course for that prices with some small additions for starter and dessert.

Pearly Cow was high up on my list to visit. We were greeted by friendly attentive staff, who took our coats and showed us to a beautiful table. Staff were great throughout.

Our drinks order was taken (1 gin & lemonade and 1 bottled Bavarian lager) and then came the padron peppers. Absolutely delicious and perfectly salty – this dish was served to share. Then we were asked how we would like out flat iron steak cooked.

This came shortly after, cooked to perfection, with fries, salad and a choice of sauce. This was a hearty portion but I could have had it 10x over – absolutely delicious.

Then for dessert we had some caramel / chocolate truffles to finish.

All in all I would love to go again to this classy and atmospheric resturant in the heart of Margate.

I had dinner at that beautifully decorated restaurant. I was lucky to get a lovely table by the window with a view of the sea, and I got to enjoy a stunning sunset – definitely one of the best parts of the evening.

The welcome was friendly, and I really enjoyed the oysters and the smoked salmon, which was excellent. However, the dessert was disappointing, a “revisited” chocolate mousse that didn’t resemble a mousse at all in taste or texture.

What let the experience down was the lack of attentiveness from the staff. My table wasn’t cleared before dessert, and I had to wait far too long to get the bill. A shame, because it could have been a truly great evening.

Also, since the kitchen is open to the dining area, I believe everything needs to be flawless and unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I saw some of the kitchen staff spending a lot of time on their phones, which didn’t leave the best impression. In such a visible space, professionalism should be a priority.

A beautiful venue with superb quality food. Dined with foodie colleagues and really glad we chose here. Stunning food, sourced from quality suppliers, and created by chefs who clearly have talent. Presentation superb, everything looked first class. Tasted divine. Friendly service. Some of the best seaside views in Margate. One of my top three meals in Thanet over 25+ years. A special treat restaurant, worth getting a babysitter for. Actually cannot wait to return.

We have been once for just a drink and then booked a Sunday lunch a couple of weeks later.
The staff was extremely attentive and relocated us to a much closer table to the balcony seating area when it became available.
We had oysters to start with and Sunday lunch with a selection of delicious vegetables available from side dishes section and asked if we can also order an extra portion of roasted vegetables.
We can not recommend the Pearly Cow enough for the quality and service and will be definitely returning very soon. We loved the atmosphere and the beautiful outlook onto the bay with stunning sunset and a lovely array of cocktails to choose from.

After a long day travelling to Margate we were hungry and just chanced on The Pearly Cow.
We went for the Sunday lunch deal. The calamari to start was delicious, crispy batter and really tasty. One portion was big enough to share.
We both had the beef for our main and that was pink and succulent. The accompanying crispy potatoes and veg were lovely. The only downside was too little gravy to accompany the enormous Yorkshire pudding!
For dessert one had the panda cotta and the other the Kent cheese and crackers. Again both were really tasty and despite thinking we wouldn’t finish them, we did.
The staff were attentive without being over bearing and it was a really pleasant meal in lovely surroundings.

Loved it! Beautiful views, stylish place with comfortable seating and a gorgeous terrace overlooking the bay with amazing views, good food and drink and friendly staff. Beautifully clean everywhere including the toilets with the best smelling hand wash.

The food and drink is good, but at the price could be better; for example of freshly mixed drinks instead of bottled. And a really good chef would help although the food is pretty good for Margate. I would definitely return and bring friends and family and would love to stay in the hotel

If I could give this place more than five stars I would. Best meal I’ve had in Margate ever, and among the best anywhere I had. Beautiful fresh fish in a delish lemony butter sauce and to die for beef fat chips. Environment stunning too with fabulous views and open kitchen with uncharacteristically ( in my experience) laid back chefs. Wonderful service, very attentive without being in anyway intrusive. Highly recommend if you’re in town.

Wow, I LOVE this place!! From the moment you step inside you’re greeted by a super friendly team and the interior is absolutely stunning, every little detail of the design does not go a miss and is just really truly beautiful. Most definitely the prettiest restaurant in Kent. The Motown music and ambient lighting really sets the scene for a great date night! We were celebrating our 7th anniversary and it felt so special, Reece who served us was so lovely and the service was perfection. Delicious melon crush cocktails, and the food… to die for!!! We had the focaccia, and the pork belly and rib eye for mains, with their infamous beef fat chips and a few other delicious sides, finishing it off with a wonderful selection of ice cream for dessert – insanely good, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Every single thing was perfectly cooked with incredible flavours. We’ll be coming back here again and again now! Our new fav spot! And the sea views!! What more could you ask for?

This place could do so well, if the waiters were better.

Fabulous views and decor, however the service is poor. Waitresses aren’t rude, they are just clueless about customer service. No smiles, no greeting, no asking about the food/experience, bill arrived way too late. With service charged at 12.5%, I’d expect a service worth 12.5% not (-5%).

For the Main course we had a chicken and beef roast it was nice, but wouldn’t say it was worth the money. To follow we had sticky toffee pudding. I changed my ice cream to custard and for some reason as I changed that they never put the toffee sauce on it. So it ended up being the dry sponge and cheap custard. Therefore I didn’t eat it and still got charged for 2 courses even though I mentioned it to the waitress.
Unlikely to come back, wouldn’t recommend
