The view of the lake was amazing and we enjoyed watching others walk and relax as they went about their day. It was a worth while trip and we will certainly be back this Fall. Try the Salmon!
We ordered:
• Chicken Tenders (Way over priced for what you get)
• Irish Nachos (Very good)
• Southern Fried Green Tomatoes (Amazing)
• Blue Ridge Chicken Melt (Fried) (Very good)
• Flat Top Mountain Steak Sub (Very good)
The chicken tenders were a complete rip off. For same price we could’ve went to Costco and purchased a entire bag for 4 small pieces. The main downside to all these dishes is the cost for what you get. There is definitely a premium since there isn’t food anywhere else nearby. The best item was the Fried Green Tomatoes. I could’ve eaten another dozen of those.
We asked for out order to go so we could take it outside with us to eat next to the water. There was plenty of seating outside. They give you a pager for take out orders and they let you know when it’s ready. You can’t venture very far from the lodge but you can sit just outside and wait. There is a nice small sitting area downstairs with games if you have kids to keep them entertained.
Overall, we would probably eat here again. Mainly because you don’t have another option. The food quality was great but the value was very poor.
definitely worth a visit!
We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet the next morning. Server Doris was a joy to talk with and top notch. Only thing is oatmeal needs to be real (not Quaker packets) and muffins/danishes need to be homemade (not store bought).
Lunch and dinner has been great! After, you can take a walk around Abbott lake which is about a mile. Beautiful short trail! Sharp top, Flat top, and Harkening hill are all great hikes but I don’t recommend those on a full stomach lol!
It’s usually pretty busy though and it’s nice to have a drink while you wait for a table to open up. There is also a small lounge area downstairs near the restroom and there usually aren’t any other people down there.
The restroom is pretty small, the stalls specifically. Very little room to move or even close the door of the stall.
The short ribs were phenomenal, tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with creamy mashed potatoes and rich au jus sauce. We were a little sad the Brunswick stew was out for the season, but everything else more than made up for it. Peaks of Otter is such a gem, and we’ll definitely be coming back to stay and eat again!
