I dont eat from here a lot. This review is for my most recent experience. My last review was for Papa Bowls. They were good but it would be nice to be able get a salad to balance the heaviness of the meat based bowls.

I will say my order was ready for pickup at 12:30 exactly as scheduled and the person handing it out the drive through (a cool feature for a pizza joint) was happy, nice and pleasant. No issues with my interaction at all.

I ordered the Garlic Parmesan wings and the medium 3 topping pizza deal. I wish I had taken a picture of the wings, a few of them were so tiny I chuckled…but it’s not funny, it was more like a chuckle of ridiculousness.

While the flavor of the wings was good, they had been steamed to floppy soggy skin by the container they pack them in (is my best guess, they may have gone in the container like that!). They have special containers with vent holes but that didn’t save the wings. This is a problem with some other places too where they use Styrofoam containers…how it never occurs to them is beyond me. I guess they never eat their own take out to know? I improved the wings when I got home by baking them in the toaster oven at 350 for about 10 minutes. I wont order wings from here again though.

The pizza was kind of ridiculous upon opening the box. Picture attached. The toppings were spread leaving way too much crust untouched. While those toppings look decent in the pic, they were really sparse. The sauce was nothing special nor was the crust…maybe a little better than a Walmart take and bake pizza. Maybe the toppings were so skimpy because I got the “deal”? I will come back once and try a regular order to see if there is a difference…but only because I have $10 in papa bucks.

I used to say I could never make homemade pizza as good as the pizza joints, but all of the pizza in this area (except Marco’s in Charlottesville) have been disappointing us lately. Think I’ll go back to making them at home! At the very least stick with take and bake and frozen pizzas, at least I start out with low expectations for those!..and spend a heck of a lot less money.

I ordered from the wrong store and when I got to the lake Monticello store to pick up my order they did not have it. The young lady Alex at the front was extremely helpful and got my order and immediately and was very polite and very friendly the whole time. My order was ready and lightning time

I don’t normally do this but my experience was so bad I must. If I could give zero stars I would. Early Sunday afternoon I tried to order from them online for delivery up the street from my house (all delivery places will deliver to the top of my street but won’t come down my road, weird). Was given about a 30 minute wait time, cool, reasonable. My boyfriend and his 5 year old daughter leave for the spot to pick up at the first time I was given. Literally an HOUR goes by and my boyfriend is like “where is the pizza?”. I call the store and the manager had a could care less attitude to tell me they were using door dash and there was nothing he could do. It’s officially an HOUR AND A HALF later and he tells me the delivery driver isn’t even at the store yet and it’ll be another 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, boyfriend and young daughter stuck waiting this long. We FINALLY got our food and it was cold, rubbery, and just not good at all. Mind you I spent around 60 bucks that day just to have one of the worst experience with a pizza chain in my life. Very slim chance I will ever order from them again.

Excruciating poor:

So figure to try this place again! I ordered an hour ahead for 6:15 and it’s over 30 minutes late! I received no notice ! The manager explained they had two other orders ! I certainly understand the issue of having one driver, I just think if we knew the issue we would have made other choices! Their quality is just not worth the issue! I think we are done ! Food quality is just not worth it! Also tipping is prefunded! Certainly poor service!

Placed an order on the app and the order was accidentally placed for cash. I called immediately and paid over the phone with my card and asked if I could put the tip on there as well. The employee said I could not and to just write it in when the driver got there. After an hour the order still had not arrived, so I called and was told that Doordash had not picked up the order and that I could come get it. An order that he admitted had been sitting on their rack for 40 minutes. I asked for the order to be cancelled, I got no confirmation of the cancellation as the order just disappeared from the app as if it had never been placed. I then drove over to the store and asked why no one had the sense to actually call me to tell me that my order could not be delivered before it sat for 40 minutes and he just shrugged and gave me a snide attitude, repeatedly rolling his eyes at me as if I caused the problem. He said he could give me a voided receipt and gave me a sticker with the order number on it and the word void, which doesn’t tell me that it was refunded to my card. I asked for an actual receipt and he said he couldn’t give me a printed reciept and I told him he needs to give me one. Then he magically prints one out, tries to talk down to me about how if I look the order was refunded, but it only shows it as refunded as cash, not to my card. I did a chargeback on the transaction. After all the orders placed here over the years (with numerous screwed up orders over the years that we didn’t complain about) to now get attitude and talked down to?! We won’t be ordering from them again and wouldn’t recommend this location. Worst Papa Johns Ever.

I ordered my pizza on the phone and was told it would be 15 or 20 minutes. I arrived about 20 minutes later and was told it would be another 15 or 20 minutes. I waited 20 minutes and went back to the window and my pizza was just put in the oven. I parked my vehicle and went into the restaurant to get my pizza. I wanted to talk to the manager about half off for my wait. He had a very bad attitude and even dropped the f-bomb. I will never use this branch again.

We’ve had good experiences ordering pizza for delivery and pick up at this Papa John’s location. The staff have been friendly. The pizza had always been good, hot and fresh. I would recommend this location for a reliable pizza option in the Lake Monticello area.

Ordered a pizza that said it would be ready in 15-30 mins. 35 mins later when I walked in, the manager was screaming at customers AND staff and storming around behind the counter like a toddler. When a woman asked if her order had been received, he huffed and puffed and rolled his eyes. This is a grown man, not a teenager. Ended up canceling my order as it hadn’t even been started yet and the poor cashier, who was very sweet, couldn’t convince the overgrown baby making pizzas to give her a time estimate. Hey, Manager: I’ve worked far more stressful jobs than the one you’re in. Get over yourself and apologize to your staff and customers. You should be absolutely ashamed.

I ordered in line to pick up at noon. I got there and the place was closed!!! I had family coming over and I planned ahead. The website for this store said they were open at 11am. There were some employees outside who said they couldn’t get in because the manager didn’t show up. I have heard of this happening before (especially on Friday’s) from other customers but I didn’t think it was really possible until it happened to me. I’m so very mad!!! I will be complaining to corporate as well because this is unacceptable. Papa John’s should be ashamed to have its name on this particular franchise. They are doing a disservice the Fluvanna community. Went to Dominos and they were very helpful to my situation and immediately began to make the pizzas for me. No more papa John’s for me!!!!!

Had a great experience with Papa John’s today. In a pinch I tried them as another company wouldn’t place an order to Pleasant Grove over the phone. Got 4 hot pizzas delivered before the game ended, hot and delicious. thanks very much
