The beef empanada is absolutely immaculate. The only downside is that it comes with just one empanada with chips. It’s a fair price, but I feel as if they should offer a multi-empanada meal with a side for a reasonable price.
Despite this minor setback, the empanadas are worth every penny. They’re incredibly flavorful and leave you feeling full. I’ll definitely be back, not only because of the quality of the food, but also because it’s conveniently located near my home.
The atmosphere is like…. well…. an upscale daycare center. They have knee-high child-like drawings/stencils on the walls with long hanging tiny Christmas lights, interwoven with an ivy type of greenery. The lights and greenery hang from the windows and across the ceiling in the main dining area. The seating is open table (which is a super relief), especially for people of different sizes or handicaps – and one of the reasons it gets 4 stars on atmosphere. The entire place is bright and open. The bathrooms were super clean and the entire place (bathrooms included) smelled divine!
The service was quick and great. Our server answered all of our questions and checked on us regularly. The only issue I had was that we ordered a soft drink and a water first, then ordered specialty coffees with our food order. We shouldn’t have done that apparently, as our coffees came out with our food order – which took a good long minute, considering we were the only people there at 10am. I would have liked to have had the specialty coffee (Chocolate Y Latte) – which was VERY sweet, before my meal. I docked one star for this because there was a LOT of waiting time between when we placed our order and when it came out. The coffees really should have come out sooner – there was that much time. And yes, I understand everything is made to order, which is why I say the coffees should have come out sooner, not with the meal. Which leads me to the meal…
The empanadas were good. We ordered the sausage, egg and cheese and the ham, egg and cheese – the basics out of the breakfast menu which consisted of bacon, ham or sausage, egg and cheese empanadas, a frittata or a bagel (same bacon, ham or sausage offerings). This is why I’m saying it would be better to visit for lunch or dinner. The offerings are more plentiful and maybe more diverse. Our empanadas had a GREAT empanada bread, but just so-so fillings. Not a lot of spice/seasonings. Both of our orders came with a kind of seriously greasy potato/waffle shaped over-fried potato. They were so greasy we couldn’t eat them and it was a waste of food.
Overall, this is a decent little place. We would go back to try out their lunch or dinner menu, but breakfast was kind of a bust. (Also, there are NO PRICES on the specialty breakfast coffee drinks!). We paid $35, without tip, for two breakfast empanadas, one Diet Coke and two Chocolate Y Lattes.
The atmosphere is great- open, clean, with a nook for kids to play while waiting. Flexible seating for those wanting a meal or those wanting to snuggle up on with a delicious coffee. Our “lunch boxes” with chicken and beef empanadas were delicious. The rice and the black beans were perfectly seasoned. Can’t wait to come back again.
