I’ve visited this Papa Haydn location several times now with some visits being for lunch/dinner, but most recently I went with family just for dessert since their selection is easily one of the very best in Portland! My two personal favorites are the Passion (which has such a unique and wonderful blend of indulgent flavors) and the Raspberry Gateau, but honestly it’s hard to go wrong here. The manager dropped by to check how our desserts were tasting and was very friendly and down to earth. On previous trips here, I also remember enjoying the pork loin and croque monsieur sandwich which tasted even better dipped in some French Onion soup. The entrees were good, but the desserts were definitely the star of the show for me. Their service is also consistently great, though if you’re planning to come at peak dinner time I’d recommend making a reservation to avoid a wait.

Whether you want to eat a sweet here or take it to go you can’t go wrong. I have enjoyed their desserts and tea selection and is great. Recently took a slice of this German chocolate cake and it was so good. Selection is smaller than their NW 23rd location.

Best cakes in Portland. The marshmello in the hot chocolate tasted like made in-house. The Maple cheese cake and Georgian peanut butter tort were airy and not too sweet.

It’s all about the flower garden patio dining at this Papa Hayden location!

Best time to go is lunch M-TH on a nice Spring or Summer day. It’s not to crowded and service is fast.

We enjoyed soup-and-dessert. A savory soup followed by a sweet dessert. Skip the salad!

The kitchen loves a beautiful strawberry garnish. If you have a strawberry allergy, be aware that the menu does not reflect the extra strawberries. Let the wait staff know your allergies when ordering. Don’t trust the menu.

Papa Hayden remains one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Yum!

This was our first time purchase at Papa Haydn. We got the lemon chiffon cake for Christmas Eve dinner. The cake was not stable so when we opened the box the top layer had slid off. Overall, we did not enjoy the flavor or texture. Would not buy again.

Reservation recommend. We just walked in as a spur of the moment thing… just wanted birthday dessert so they made an exception and gave us a table for 1 hour. That was AWESOME! And the desserts were Amazing! However, It’s a tight space inside. I would love to see what it would be like with a reservation to sit outdoors. I was a bit uncomfortable sitting indoors from being repeatedly “bumped” on the back (without any apologies) from a man at 1 table while trying to avoid hearing the personal conversation at the other table right next to me (a little awkward). Drinks were also good though!

We always stop here for dessert when we’re in town. The berry meringue cake is incredible — easily one of the best desserts I’ve had, and it’s become a must every visit. Service has always been excellent, attentive without being overbearing. Prices are steep (about $18 a slice), but the quality, presentation, and overall experience make it worth it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special dessert spot.

Our wedding cake from Papa Haydn was absolutely perfect! It was not only beautiful but delicious—the ideal addition to our perfect day. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We received so many compliments from our guests!

If you’re planning a wedding in Portland, I highly recommend Papa Haydn for your cake. They truly helped make our celebration even more memorable. 10/10 would recommend!

This place has limited indoor seating but they have a big, beautiful garden you can dine in. We did just that on a beautiful, warm spring day. The food was delicious, and so was my tea. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves. My chicken Caesar salad was filling and he loved his burger. We were gonna try dessert but we we’re too full. I’ve had them before and they do not disappoint. This is our go-to dinner place from now on. Definitely recommend!
