Great owners, staff, food, homemade pies, Sr menu, and always decorated for the holidays!
Atmosphere rated a 1 ⭐️ the restaurant was so dirty. Cob webs everywhere, dust on shelves right by tables, carpet and floors disgusting, bathroom so gross. We were hungry and it was the closest place so we stayed and ordered. Thankfully around the salad bar was clean. Service was good.
-we were in a large group for a birthday party and requested to be seated accordingly with a head count. The center of the room with large tables and floor space was empty and we were instead seated in the corner in the hallway to the restrooms/bar so it was very difficult for 15+ of us to fit. This also made it difficult for other patrons to get through as well so it inconvenienced everyone else not just our party.
-our waitress was very dismissive of requests/ questions about cross contamination when informed that some of us have food allergies
-my plate arrived cold and less that satisfactory. My fries were cold, soggy and I could taste a fishy taste from them. My mushroom Swiss burger had about 4 slices of mushrooms and the burger patty was about 2x as big as the bun which made it nearly impossible to eat as a handheld. The bun was just some small hamburger buns you’d get for $1 /bag at the grocery store and just couldn’t stand up to the patty and the grease.
-My elderly mother ordered a turkey/cranberry sandwich. The turkey was cold and tasted like the inside of their fridge. Her side of mashed potatoes was also cold.
From my seat I had a good view of the kitchen, and the food was brought to us almost as soon as it was ready so I’m really confused as to why it was cold straight from the kitchen. Service was actually quite prompt given our group size which was great.
I remember Spiffy’s, and this spot is close, so we decided to give it a try. Dunno if we’ll be coming back, though.
Anyways, we sat down. Got the menus, looked em over.
I got Artichoke dip (which was delightful), and steamer clams as an appetizer. I also ordered the captains platter.
The artichoke dip was so good. It’s literally the best thing on the entire menu and the only thing that was worth sitting down here.
The clams, though, i asked for them to be SALTED and cooked a bit longer than normal. I have no idea if they were or were not cooked a bit longer, but they were definently NOT salted. I salted them myself, but it’s a bit different when they’re cooked with the salt vrs putting it on after. I used the butter for the captains platter. Which helped.
Maybe I’m just dumb for assuming, but I think that the fact that it’s ALL deep-fried should be stated in the menu. I was not expecting to get pre-frozen fish and scallops. Clam strips, sure, that makes sense. But I was prepared for some actual sea food.
The scallops were undercooked SO MUCH I couldn’t even eat them. Didn’t wanna risk it. The fish was, okay, on the edges where it was crispy. The shrimp were delightful, and the clam strips were chewy, which was good. Pretfy sure the shrimp were dry, but thankfully, i had butter and lemons. I also got a salad. Which was, yknow, a salad. I also got mashed potatoes… which were SPICY? Now don’t get me wrong, I lovvveee spice, genuinely. I eat Takis and Jalapeños for fun. But spicy mashed potatoes was. Wierd.
My love got the philli cheese steak and a cuppa soup.
They reported that the sandwich was mid but decent. They ate most of it because we were so hungry from our long day. The bread was dry. The soup was strange. It was Cheddar Broccoli. It was the last of it, so that could explain it, but it was not thick or creamy; as Cheddar Broccoli should be. It was okay, if not room temperature, when it was received. I should have to blow on my soup. Idk.
As for the waitress, I could be wrong, but I could see her glaring at me out of the corner of her eye. I can’t really tell you why. I was very polite. I always respect waiters and staff of places even if I dislike the establishment. It could be that I had a pentagram on my necklace, or maybe I am openly queer and transgender. Who knows, I don’t. Maybe she knew me from a friend of a friend or something. Whatever the reason, not an excuse to glare at me and then smile in my face when I look at you.
As we were eating, she came over to refill my lovers water. Then, she poured water into my sprite. Which was still half full. Then, she never came back over close enough for me to ask her for a new drink. I didn’t even notice because I was focused on something my love had just said to me, and when I did, it was too late. I now had super duper water sprite.
Thankfully, this didn’t hurt our wallet too badly. Decently affordable, if you’re okay with mid food. It’s cool that kids eat free on Wednesdays. This is definitely a place for kids. Pallets of toddlers if you will.
Nicely decorated, clever advertising.
Lastly, the pies did look awesome. I didn’t see any bugs like the other display. They all looked pristine and some even elegant. The giant cinnamon rolls were wild to see.
I do give credit where it is due. We left a decent sized tip and left. I think the saddest part of this is that the food LOOKS GOOD. It looks so yummy. But it’s bland, or dry, or some other negative adjective. It was disappointing.
I ate the breakfast 2 eggs plate. My son had a pizza that was absolutely amazing and my other son had the chicken and waffles. Definitely worth it.
The only good item was the pulled pork nachos. If you don’t like sweet BBQ sauce, it may not be to your liking.
