My husband and I visited per the reviews but we’re sure that it’s family and friends leaving the high ratings. We were the only ones and still had to wait for someone to come to the front. The inside feels old and empty-no tv nor music. The waitress wasn’t mean but seemed like we were bothering her, like she had 5 other tables. The food-horrible. First you have to pay for chips and salsa (if they were good I wouldn’t complain about paying and the queso is like a gravy. The chips were covered in grease, at the bottom was a pool of oil. The beef had a bitter taste to it-it was horrible. The only thing good was the beef stew. We’ll never be back.

This was our first visit to Papa Al’s. The interior looks the same as the previous restaurant that occupied this same building, old looking and Spartan decor. It is seat yourself when you enter the door. No chips and salsa were offered unlike most area Mexican restaurants. I ordered the hot tamales and my wife got the cheese and onion enchiladas. These dinners came with a small portion of beans, rice and stew beef. I enjoyed my meal but it was nothing special. My wife thought there could have been more onions in the enchiladas. There are no alcohol drinks available for some reason. We do like that it is close to our home.

The portion size of the food compared to the price was disappointing. I paid $49.51 and ordered 2 large Menudo , 2 large rice and 6 Tamale and this is what I got × 2….. 2 small scoop of rice, 2 small cups of Menudo, 6 tiny tamales (finger size) and a spoon full of onions, cilantro and lime. ….. The water bottle dwarfs everything….. Though the food was delicious, the price and portion is not worth it!!….

My husband and I were excited to try this new restaurant in town but we’re disappointed. I’m hoping to provide constructive criticism in hopes this helps them to make some changes and to thrive going forward. When we walked in no one greeted us and there were no signs telling us to seat ourselves. It took quite a bit of time to place an order and to receive our food. When the food came the rice tasted like instant rice that had been overcooked. It was flavorless and mushy. I ordered medium shell tacos that were the hardest shells I’ve ever had. The choriqueso was a silver lining as it was very tasty and the chips were seasoned well. I have not tried the American food here so I cannot speak on the quality of that menu. I think that they should focus on authentic American OR Mexican food with fresh ingredients that can be executed correctly. Or maybe offer some items that are unique that the competitors don’t sell. There is a lot of competition and unfortunately the competition is much better.

Quiet intimate restaurant. Family run and operated. Chips are elite. Flavors are bold and authentic. Waitress was quick, kind and efficient. Portions were larger than I expected for the price. I cant wait to go back and try other things on their menu.

Had lunch there the barbacoa tacos were really good. They just opened up and I’m glad I stopped in. It definitely has humble beginnings a hole in the wall type vibe. I talked to the waitress she was a sweet girl was by herself working a full restaurant God bless her. But it’s a family affair dad is the chef and he did and excellent job. I can’t wait to come back. Just need a little patience it was worth the wait! Please be kind because it is only family and it doesn’t seem fully staffed so if you don’t mind waiting it’s worth checking out. I hope they stay here for a long time.

From my perspective, this restaurant could be good but there’s a lot of things to address. The first is how quiet it is. There’s music playing on a tv but at like 3 volume. Thought chips and salsa not being complementary was odd since most Mexican restaurants do that for you. Food wise, it was mediocre. The rice is mushy and overcooked, beans look like they came out of a can and have been sitting in the same warmer for days. Tamales stuck to the husk and were inedible. It needs a more welcoming environment and an upgrade on the food.

I had the wet burrito which was great and a decent portion; couldn’t even eat all of it. My children had the cheeseburger with fries and they absolutely loved it. The fries were the right amount of crunch. Great start for it being a new restaurant or being open long. Will be back.

Overcooked food and mediocre service. The chips that came with the queso dip were overcooked but some of them were still soft. The mini tacos were overcooked and not very full. The regular tacos were overcooked the first time but then they remade them and they were better. The waitress called my boyfriend baby and then complimented his sweater. She also had 2 start stickers on her face. Very unprofessional.

This place is really good and the value is great, I’ve been here a few times, my wife and I loved the food and the staff there were very inviting and they gave pretty good portion sizes, especially considering the prices were pretty cheap. Definitely will be going there more often!!
