This place is absolutely garbage. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered a burrito to try on my first visit to get an idea of what this place is like. Menu says $6.95. I hand the cashier a $20 bill and I get $12 back. I ask the cashier why I only got $12 back, isn’t it Basically $7? She replies that it’s $7 plus tax. I decide to let it slide for now, since I don’t want anything to ruin my food and experience.

I then wait 15min for my food, and when it arrives I ask if I can get some free chips. She says, “no, they are $2.50.” I tell her, “well you owe me 50cents, so how about some free chips instead.” She didn’t have to give me $2.50 worth of chips, just my 50cents worth, but she says, “no, it will be $2.50 for chips.” So, I tell her, “ok I’ll take my 50cents or I’ll take some chips, you decide.” She says I don’t owe you 50cents. Then, I show her on my ph calculator that $6.95 times 1.074 (tax rate for restaurants in Carsbad is 7.4%) is $7.47, and I show her the $12 she gave me as change to remind her. She then gives me a receipt showing total to be $7.57, and hands me 33cents. If you pay close attention, there is 3 problems with what she handed me. First, the receipt shows that it is $6.99 subtotal, but the menu says a burrito is $6.95. So, that’s 4cents overcharged. Next, if you do the calculation 7.57/6.99, the tax rate she used is 8.3%, and not 7.4%. And finally, she gave me 33cents back not 43cents back according to simple math of $20 minus $7.57 being $12.43. So, I tell her she only gave me 33cents. She replies that it’s the correct change. I tell her, “no, it should be 43cents.” She then pulls a calculator out, and realizes her mistake, and hands me a dime.

Nickle and diming the customers! Wow! She literally tried to rob me of 53cents, and even though I pointed out that she owed me 53cents with a calculator, she still robbed me of 10cents… even after telling her 4 times that she owes me money.

Why didn’t she simply hand me a handle full of chips to be done with the issue???

Why be deceitful and rob the customer in the first place?

Why did it have to take several attempts to get my money back, having to show her the calculation, and even after all the attemps, she still robbed me?

If this business can be deceitful with pricing AND tax, they are likely deceitful on what is going on in the kitchen.

Can you trust someone with your food??? That you can’t trust with your money???

Next, lets get to the food. The burrito she gave me was the size of a taco that I can get elswehere for 1/3rd the price. Yes, their burrito is the size of a $2.50 taco. Literally, I should have gotten 3 of these so called burritos for $7.57. I can literally eat 5 or 6 of these to be satisfied without having to go eat more elsewhere. If I did, I’d be paying $37.85 to $45.42 for just myself… plus a drink, that I didn’t get. So $40-$50/person.

How was the taste? It was fine. Nothing special.

Conclusion:
Service: The absolute worst most dishonest untrustworthy deceitful criminal service I have ever experienced.

* Quantity: 1/3rd the size I was expecting
* Quality: terrible for the price
* Atmosphere: i felt dusgusted by this business. The worst atmosphere.
* Pricing: Very Very Expensive. You can buy gourmet food elsewhere, LITERALLY ANYWHERE, for less. About $40-$50/person.
* Restaurant presentation: Looks like a hole in the wall that you would expect to get good bang for your buck. Instead it’s as if they believe they are the best place in town, charging exorbitant prices, and believing they have the kings palace as a restaurant.

I will do what I can to expose this business for deceitfulness and theft of their customers. This nickle and diming, and over charging on prices and tax needs to stop.

Sadly, this is the absolute worst review I’ve ever given a restaurant.

The service was excellent. Our waitress was Kenia. She was very attentive and making sure our drinks were filled. She also checked on us many times.

The food was delicious. We had the Desayunos Pancho’s – which was delicious, and two burritos. The Deshebrada Verde was tasteful with a lot of meat. The Eggs and bacon was also good, but a little dry.

Overall, it was an excellent experience.

Delicious, authentic flavored food. The spicy refried beans that are brought out with the chips and salsa are delicious. Agua frescas are refreshing with not to much sugar but great flavor.

Wonderful experience at Panchos. The chile relleno was absolutely delicious. Grilled tortillas were wonderful, as were the chicken and steak tacos. Rice and beans were very good. The staff were the best! Very professional and accommodating. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely yes!! Very friendly server, and great food. We tried all the chilies on the bar, what a mix! Didn’t like the charro beans, way to many Hotdogs not enough beans. Chicken flautas were great. Nice comfortable place.
Marking it as a keeper for Carlsbad

I was visiting Carlsbad. We ordered 2 chicken enchilada plates. 1 with Red and 1 Xmas. The cashier told us it would be 15mins and we waited 25. When we got our food back 2 our hotel and started eating our food we realized that they gave us shredded beef instead of chicken. It would’ve been alright but the shredded beef was dry. The food here isn’t worth the price at all!!!

Went in 01/22/23 on a Sunday morning around 11ish. It was very busy, later as lunch time came around it started getting busier. The staff are very polite & knowledgeable of the menu. My parnter had ordered the chile rellenos plate. It’s served with 2 chile rellenos and a small palm size of mashed beans & rice. For $13 that’s kinda steep for the portions your given. I had the small menudo with buttered bread. Flautas mexicanas (6 count) Everything was very flavorful & delicious. There is also a salsa bar with different types of salsas and sides (chopped onions, cilantro, limes, radishes, Pico de gallo.) If you haven’t tried this place it’s definitely worth your time to stop by. They serve Quesabirra tacos & Menudo everyday we were told. A note is they are closed on Wednesdays.
