Update: corporate Pancheros went out of their way to amend this. I appreciate the quick response and work they did to improve my experience. I have not returned to the Ankeny location, but I’m willing to take another chance because of the response I’ve received.
Incredible how little food I received for $13. The bowl is less than half full compared to what I usually receive at other Pancheros.

This is truly the most dysfunctional restaurant in Ankeny. I love Pancheros and wish our location in Ankeny was better, but it seems to get worse every visit.
We went in June and waited in line for about 40 minutes while the crew moved in slow motion. They were out of chicken and steak and no one was working on making more. While this massive line was there, they were more focused on the online orders that they also were unable to keep up with. They need the ability to turn off online orders when they don’t have the capacity to even cater to the customers standing right in front of them. Multiple customers in front of us left the line and went somewhere else. We said we wouldn’t be back after this experience.
We decided to give it one more try tonight and placed an online order. It was estimated to be ready at 7. We arrived shortly after 7 to an empty restaurant and a counter full of receipts for online orders that were not being addressed. After getting to the counter it took 10 minutes for a worker to acknowledge us, at which time we found out they had not even begun our order(or anyone else’s it appeared). We got our order and brought it home to find two burritos so small I audibly laughed at them and got my tape measure out. They were 4.5 inches long and had almost no filling in them. Hard to believe their burritos cost twice as much as they used to and are half the size as well. We will definitely not be back unless changes are made.

It was bad.. We walked up to the counter to order and see the steak was VERY RAW everyone behind us left because of it we ended up getting chicken. The tortillas were super broken and falling apart and our burrito was not mixed very terrible experience today. The workers were kind though. Just scary to know they are selling raw meat.

I love Pancheros.I order from this location pretty regularly and lately it has been a bit of a letdown. I would have given the place 5 stars a month ago. The last few times have been 3 star experiences. Today was a zero star experience. Today I ordered a burrito online and it was scheduled to be ready at 1:06 PM. I left at 1:31 PM because I could not wait any longer. At that point they had not even started making my burrito. I was one of six people waiting for an online order that was well overdue. It did not appear as though they were working on online orders at all at that time. Because I could not wait any longer, I went to the counter and canceled my order. They were apologetic. They were attentive. I did get my refund 4 or 5 hours later which I do appreciate. I wish they could have given me back my time that was wasted as well.

The workers were fast and the food was fresh, but when my boyfriend and I got home to eat our burritos we got, we found there was chips and queso we didn’t ask for in our bag. We looked at the receipt and sure enough we paid for it to. We never asked for the food and still had to pay for it.

I always forget about pancheros (in my hometown, qdoba arrived first and then chipotle came to my neighborhood,) but not anymore. When I walked into the Chipotle across the street and was told they were out of veggies, I left downhearted. But as I was leaving, I spotted pancheros. I walked in, fingers crossed. I walked out with a giant bowl of absolutely delicious veggies, tofurizo (I won’t even touch the gross beyond meat or better than beef subs that other restaurants serve,) rice, and awesome toppings. But more notably, I was met with excellent service. This is not something that I demand or expect – it’s just a bonus. The staff was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable, as well as humble and silly. After a long weekend of hard work and stress, I am traveling home with a giant smile and a happy belly. Thanks, pancheros crew. You’ll be the first place I think of when I’m on the road. Seriously – more tasty than 95% of the restaurants I visit.

Terrible. They didn’t even bother mixing my burrito. I ordered carnitas. First 10 bites were pure guacamole and sour cream. Then one single HUNK of meat. What a joke. The worker who made this needs fired. This is like my 4th time giving them a chance in the past 12 months. It takes a few months for me to cave and order again. I love Pancheros, but THIS location is a JOKE.

The young man who made my burrito was absolutely awesome. The first one he made looked small. I had joked that it was one of the smaller burritos I’ve seen from there. Without hesitation he walked back over and made me another. This time it was normal size. He never complained and just got right to work. That was with nobody up there with him. I wish I got his name because I would absolutely put it in here. That man’s a keeper for you guys!

Pancheros food is great, when the service is this bad I sadly have to give a 2, food service area does seem crusty with old food, 4 employees in the front but only 1 was working food while they other just stood there completely unbothered by any need to work. I used to live by the jordan creek location which was my #1 favorite fast food, it is very disappointing that I probably won’t be coming back if the ankeny location is this poorly run. Food was okay, but way more dry than other locations

Went here around noon on 1/9/22 to pick up online orders. Stood and waited for 20 minutes to get my chips and queso order. We also watched the workers “Bob” (mix) in-person customers’ burritos before wrapping them. But they skipped this for online orders. No one likes eating straight rice, then all beans, then all meat, etc (see photos). This location used to be alright but the speed, friendliness, quality and freshness has really gone downhill. Probably won’t be back here.
