My wife and I visited this place on a Saturday morning, after a concert at the O2. We hadn’t visited in ten years. It located in Epping Forest, not far from Waltham Cross.
The shack was thriving, and we were looked after by a congenial Essex gentleman who goes by the name of Harrison. We were well looked after and Harrison kindly shared the scallops in ginger and garlic as a welcome gift from him. We were also served by his colleague Maggie who was very helpful. Not shown in the photos, was pan fried mackeral, delicious, and a big plate of fries from the cafe next door. For drinks you can nip in to the hotel next door (and they have nice loos too). We’ll be back this weekend, as part of our 27th Wedding Anniversary celebrations.
Thanks for making our day Harrison!
See you soon.
Philip and Ani.

Warning: Pay the parking. It’s a pound for first hour, then 80 pence per hour. We didn’t and were fined £20.

Advice: :Get there before 11:0 am on Saturdays, as it becomes very busy later, and parking may be difficult.

I checked out this place with my friend a couple of weeks ago and honestly, it’s such an amazing hidden gem in Epping Forest. I’m genuinely surprised more people don’t know about it. The food is fantastic, full of flavour, generous portions, and great value for money. The customer service is also excellent; the staff are incredibly sweet and helpful, which really adds to the experience. They even give you free bread, which was a lovely bonus.

The only downside is that during winter it can get quite cold. On the day we visited, the heating wasn’t working, though I’ve been told it usually does. Parking is available, so that’s not an issue at all. Overall, a brilliant spot that’s definitely worth visiting.

Delicious garlic chilli butter prawns, make sure to get some bread (free) for the sauce. Oysters were good too, we had Irish. Staff were very friendly. Expect a queue and long wait for hot food on the weekend. But definitely worth it. Will come back.

Delicious and wide selection of fresh seafood cooked to order. We got the tangy, melt-in-the-mouth jerk prawns, fresh mackerel fillets, scallops with black pudding and a dozen Irish oysters. If you only want oysters you can order straight from the oyster shack. Perfect after a muddy cycle round the forest. Very friendly staff. We waited about half an hour for hot food.

When I re-order three plates of a dish, I have to share such indulgence.

Here’s one that I’ll go back to every time I’m here! If you’re anywhere close to Waltham Abbey, Oyster Shack is a Must Do! The Oysters are benevolent & hearty. The prawns in their chilli garlic sauce is just

Expect a waiting line, but it’s worth the wait!

This is at the King’s Oak Hotel, in Epping Forest.

The team is great & the food, clearly fantastic! Ask for Paul!

Visited the Oyster Shack & Seafood Bar and had a brilliant experience. We ordered the hot platter for £40 and asked for no mussels, which they kindly swapped out for us without any fuss – really appreciated the flexibility!

Everything was cooked to perfection. The batter was nice and crispy, and the standout for me was definitely the curried mango prawns! Absolutely packed with flavour.

I also liked that you could grab a beer from the neighbouring pub to enjoy with your food. There’s cheap parking on-site too, which made things super convenient. Seating was limited but on a warm day, there is a green opposite that would be perfect.

The staff were very friendly, and the woman who served us was especially warm and welcoming. Great service all around.

Would definitely recommend and will be back again to try something else on the menu.

lil shack nestled within epping forest. get in before 12 as that’s when the crowd starts building up. Oysters are quite good, unsure about the bacon & scallop roll.
the taste of bacon overpowered the scallops though the concept is p might try to recreate this some time myself .
cod cheeks are soft and fluffy, prawn are a hit.

The food is amazing! The staff in the shop are super nice! I didn’t expect to find such delicious seafood dishes in the forest — it felt like I was at the beach, but it’s only a 30-minute drive from where I live! The Mango Prawn really surprised me, and everything else was incredibly tasty too! I’m definitely trying the hot plate next time! You might have to wait a bit or queue for a while, but it’s totally worth it — the food is just that delicious!

The queue was meaty, we probably waited 2+ hours and did some rotations from the nearby pub to rest our legs. That being said the seafood was incredible and definitely worth it. Would also recommend the fish bun or the scallops (potentially the most perfectly cooked scallops I’ve ever had). 5/5

What a gem in the middle of the forest! After a 2 hour wait in line we finally got to order and the food did not disappoint. The 2 hour wait was filled with excited chatter with others ahead and behind us whilst admiring the plates of the customers passing by and ogling of the food on the plates of diners seated around us. The pink haired lady that takes your order is very helpful and friendly. The other staff are just as friendly and welcoming. The food is reasonably priced and there is a great selection of both hot and cold food. My suggestions are to serve the bread per person or party instead of putting it in a bread bin that everyone helps themselves from. The oysters are only served on ice but I would have liked a grilled option. The platter included fried items like tempura, breaded prawns, breaded scampi and breaded squid which could have a grilled option or alternative. The garlic and chilli scallops were amazing and all of the seafood was fresh and juicy. I would definitely visit again.
