My wife and I found this on google maps as we were leaving Asheville. We wanted a light breakfast and decided to get some bakery items to go. This place was right on the way and we decided to stop here. At first we were a bit apprehensive because of the building and the fact that they only had a few items out. We were VERY pleasantly surprised. We got a couple items and everything was good and very reasonably priced. We have been to bakeries literally all over the country and this is one of the best, even better than the hyped up bakeries in LA and NYC. Very unpretentious and like I said, affordable. If you are in Asheville you need to go here!

Fantastic coffees, bagels, breads, and sweet treats. I was so thrilled to see this place thriving. Stop in and get one of their amazing scones or freshly toasted bagel.

Stopped in for a bagel this morning as I was heading to Asheville, and I was seriously blown away by how delicious it was. Hands down best bagel I’ve ever had in my life! The dough felt very light and soft but also had an addictive chew. You could tell the flour was also very high quality as it had an amazing toasty, yeasty flavor. Hats off to the bakers – they have mastered the craft!

Got an iced latte and a muffin- both very good! Cost about $10. My friend got a bagel, toasted with butter. The sign said bagels are 2.50 but she payed almost 5. So we are a bit perplexed as to the 2.50 up charge for toasting it and adding butter? Either way, cute, small place! However, no tables or chairs to sit at.

Simply amazing bagels. We were staying in Asheville and I looked online and many bagel shops in the area and Ovenbird was the only one with stellar reviews. We decide to visit on our way to Black Mountain. We enjoyed freshly baked bagels with lox cream cheese and chive cream cheese. Great quality products. Also left with a loaf of seeded sourdough bread. Worth the drive from Asheville for great quality bakery.

Ovenbird Kitchen is in the old downtown area of Swannonoa NC, just a few blocks off of 70.
Its a charming little bakery with a seating area outside in good weather, otherwise seating next door in the Roots & Branches ( crackers & flatbread )bakery that shares the space.
There are a lot of yummy coffee choices- I had a latte made with/ almond milk. My friend had a mocha latte. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. I drank this as I ate a delicious vegan gingerbread cookie.
Owner Clark is no longer at N Asheville tailgate market where he was a fixture for many years. I stocked up on bagels, multi grain English muffins, chai English type muffins and 2 types of biscotti: Vanilla almond and chocolate cranberry w/ almonds.
Although I didn’t purchase bread today, the breads are excellent as well. I highly recommend everything !
