Ouest (west) France Bistro opened their doors on the 14th July 2022. Run by two French brothers, Oscar (chef) and Cesar (ex France Soir) from Brittany.
The 32 seat (tiny) restaurant welcomes you, with an elegant design which mimics the experience and ambience of a bustling French bistro.
For food, don’t look for complicated. The small menu features the classics of a French brasserie. This is curated with a wine list featuring wines mainly from France and local Peninsula favourites.
Boheme in design, with red carpet and hanging plants in the patio for a true Parisian atmosphere. A golden mirror, artistic wallpaper and a dark, romantic interior.
We look forward to welcoming you to, Ouest France.

Whilst the food we had was really lovely no where on the menu or on Open Table or when they asked me to reconfirm did they mention that it was a set menu for Valentines Day at $110 pp. My husband and I still had the meal but it would have been nice to have been aware of it.
Then we were told we only had until 7.45pm when we got there at 6pm. We did leave well before the time but for me I don’t like rushing but as it happens we did get our food very quickly.
Whilst the food was lovely I don’t think for $110pp I should off had to share my steak.

Absolutely delicious French cuisine, and certainly the best we’ve had locally! Better than most we had in France as well! Highly recommended!

Mornington is not the sort of place you might expect to find a classic French bistro, but Ouest France Bistro is as French as it gets. It is clearly the sort of place that has a lot of return patrons, as evidenced by the warm familiar welcome so many diners received when they arrived. It’s a very small restaurant with a marquee attached out the front, but it’s comfortable and homely, and you don’t feel cramped at all. Service is friendly, professional, and efficient. For some reason, we had mucked up making our booking, but they were able to find us a table, which was warmly appreciated. The menu has the French classics you would expect along with a couple of specials. The food is beautifully prepared, well presented, and tastes fabulous. I enjoyed onion soup, veal casserole (its French name is a lot more exotic, but I’m not going to attempt it) and, the highlight for me, apple crepe with flaming calvados. The meals are served plain, in the French style, so you need to order sides. We had the salad and peas, both delicious. I felt that the prices were quite reasonable for the quality of food and service. My one and only quibble was a longer than expected wait between entree and main. Entrees and desserts arrived promptly, but the gap between entree and main was a bit longer than expected. Apart from that, flawless. We will definitely be returning.

Our first time at Quest and it won’t be our last . Our host Georgie was most welcoming for our 7.30 pm dinner – very busy on a Friday night which resulted in a bit of a wait to order.
I had the quail with mushroom sauce for entree while Adrienne had the cauliflower soup with cheese croutons both outstanding.
Mains we both had the duck breast with cherrie sauce , green beans and French fries . All perfectly cooked.
Desert- crème brûlée and chocolate moose ✅
Highly recommended if you love French food , many specials on offer as well
2 entrees , 2 mains, 2 deserts and a bottle of Pino gri : $270 inc tip

You can choose to eat inside or in a covered gazebo outside, which can be closed in when it’s cold. There is also a heater, but it was a warm day when we were there. I’d suggest it would be advisable to book a table in advance. Service was prompt, but the wait time for the food was understandably long as the meat takes some time to cook. I had a rib-eye steak with French fries. It was a perfectly cooked medium rare, tasty and tender. My wife had the market fish, a hoki, which was cooked beautifully, though she wasn’t so fond of the tomato based sauce. The serving sizes were quite small, though adequate, leaving enough room for a dessert if desired. We chose not to have a dessert.

Good afternoon, very disappointed with your business. My wife made a booking for 4 people with your restaurant for 1.00 pm on Saturday 31 jan. The booking was for her Mums 80 th birthday & was for a special treat for her. My wife received an email on Friday 30 Jan confirming the booking.
When we got to the restaurant no one was there. No signage explaining closure. We stood around for half an hour or so. Called the number. No response. Have left written messages with no response. Called another number on the website & was able to leave a voice mail. There was no response to this either.
Very poor service, particularly given you are a service business. My wife called again today & got through to someone. The person in question did not even bother trying to book us in for another time. I have never experienced service this poor.
Thank you for taking time to read this. Regards Tim

What a great night out! From the friendly welcome to the most beautiful food and relaxed service. Small uncomplicated menu, rich, flavoursome and presented beautifully. Our table enjoyed Quail, cauliflower soup, scallops for entree. We all had the eye fillet which was very high quality and cooked to perfection. Crepes and Crème brûlée for desert beautiful. Some beautiful french wines were enjoyed along with 1664 beer.

A great French bistro that I could recommend! My favourite was the scallop and cauliflower soup entree dishes. The main dish could have had a tad more flavours though.
Nice layout and presentation of the restaurant, along with the friendly staff.

Extremely disappointing experience especially on my birthday. Served a bottle of warm overpriced bubbles and met with very rude and unnecessary comments when we complained about it. Didn’t get to the food as we were told we were whinging about our experience so far and we should go somewhere else if we weren’t happy with it. So we did. I’ve never experienced ill hospitality like it before. Do not recommend.

I had bought a voucher on Groupon for this restaurant. I rang in the afternoon to make a booking, I specifically told the young lady who answered the phone that I had a Groupon voucher, she said that they had a table available for us for that evening and I specifically said to her that 8 is the time for our booking(as this was specified on the terms and conditions on the voucher) she said that we could come anytime, so I asked if we could have a booking for 7 and she said that was fine. When we arrived, we were seated at our table and when the waitress came over, I told her that I had a voucher, she informed us that anything extra we wanted would be an additional cost, which we were happy to pay. A few seconds later, I presume was the owner came over to our table and said you are causing me to loose money, your booking should only be for after 8, and did I not read the terms and conditions of the Groupon voucher, I tried to tell him that I had but when I called I was told I could have any time. He was so rude to my husband and I, who by the was is an executive chef, he started arguing with me in front of a restaurant full of customers and staff, telling me I was wrong and not letting me get a word in, he refused to listen to what I had to say. My husband asked him if he wanted us to leave, he said yes and refused our booking. I work for a huge corporate company and I customer service, never have I ever or would ever treat a customer this way, I would be fired!! My husband and I were quite prepared to order an extra entree, a bottle of wine and desserts which were not in the voucher. We were really looking forward to a good night out, which was disappointing at this level of rudeness. I am trying to understand what good business sense it is turning a customer away who was going to spend more money at your restaurant and now you sat with an empty table making no money..I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. Poor, poor behaviour.
