The noticed that the tables were full with people enjoying their yummy dishes in an atmosphere that made you feel warm and welcomed! I thought this was a great place to wind down with the family over a delicious dish! The pizza I got was the best authentic pizza I ever had! I liked that it was full of all my favorite toppings! I will be back and I will share with others about this wonderful experience! Thank you for your kindness and hospitality!
So anyway, I found myself in Madison Heights, and my son and I were in the mood for Pizza, so today I decided to give it another shot. The interior is pretty nice, well-finished and comfortable. TVs are on, but thankfully silent. We came in and sat ourselves in a booth, and soon a waitress asked about drinks and handed us menus. We decided on a large Margherita style pizza. When we ordered, the waitress confirmed that I was talking about a Margherita style. I thought for sure that she was asking if I understood that it meant tomato slices, basil leaves, and fresh mozzarella, and thought for sure that’s what it said on the menu. I said ‘yep, Margherita.’ she refilled our drinks while we waited. About 15 minutes later, a pretty average looking pizza came out, nothing rustic or garden fresh about it, and I said “I don’t think this is ours.” She said, yep, Margherita right? We talked about it. I said ‘I thought it meant fresh basil and tomatoes’. She said, “You want some fresh tomatoes on it?” I said “No, I must have made a mistake” and she kindly served us both a slice. Not a bad pizza, but not crisp, fresh, or otherwise remarkable. No cornmeal crust. No flexible, chewy dough. It was a little like a handmade pizza I make at home. In other words, not bad, but not great. One thing stood out, and was a nice surprise: I have never eaten so much garlic in my life on a pizza. So, we ate it, she checked on us, she asked about a box or dessert, then finally the check came. It was $25 for a large pie and two drinks. Again, not bad. I took out my credit card and she asked if I wanted her to take care of it. I suddenly realized that patrons pay at the register and told her I’d take care of it.
I went to the register as my son finished his last slice, paid the bill, and left a $5 tip. In fact, I asked the registrar if she could write in the tip for me as I have a horribly shaky hand. I signed the owner copy, she handed me the customer copy, and we departed, thanking them as we went, and decided to visit the Food Lion next door.
As we went into the produce aisle, the waitress came in and in front of a crowd told me that I had not paid my bill. Astonished and embarrassed I explained that I had. ‘No, you didn’t!’ she replied. I thought back and wondered if I had forgotten to press a button on the card reader or something as my son and I walked past staring Food Lioners. We walked back into the restaurant, walked up to the counter, and I took my card out to resolve whatever issue had occurred. The woman who had checked me out (and added the tip on my behalf) was nowhere to be found. The waitress was saying that she could not find my receipt and was adamant I had not paid. Suddenly I realized I had the receipt in my pocket and showed it. Around the same time as my copy exited my pocket, they suddenly found my payment. “The system messed up and did not show it,” they explained. ‘Let’s make sure,’ I said. She said “No, you’re good!”. I said “Please, let’s make sure. I don’t want to shortchange anyone” A few people said “sorry” with half a smile, but very little recognition of what just took place. In short, the decor is nice and homey, the food is okay, service is pretty good. I just wish the waitress had spent another minute checking the system instead of ten minutes chasing me into Food Lion, embarrassing me in public, and wasting all of our time. I won’t be back.
