A Hidden Gem for Authentic & Comforting Chinese Cuisine
If you’re looking for a family-run spot that hits that perfect balance between “American favorites” and traditional dishes, Oriental Food House in Westmont is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the service stands out—the lady running the front is incredibly friendly and makes you feel right at home.
The Food
The value here is hard to beat, especially the Lunch Combo. It’s a massive spread that includes:
Main Entrée: I went with the Crispy Salty Chicken, which was perfectly seasoned and had that satisfying crunch.
Sides: Savory fried rice and three crispy pot stickers.
Drink: A can of soda to wash it all down.
To round out the meal, I added a few extras that really stole the show. The Vegetable Egg Rolls were hot and fresh, but the real standout was the Chinese Breakfast Donut (Youtiao)—it’s the perfect airy, savory treat that you don’t find at every neighborhood spot.
Pro Tips
Traditional Options: Don’t be afraid to look past the standard menu; they have great traditional options that are worth exploring.
How to Order: Skip the online ordering. To ensure everything is handled perfectly, sticking to the old-school method of calling in your order is definitely the way to go.

The presentation of the dishes looks humble but they taste super authentic and delicious. They have probably the best Asian food in Chicago. If you want to know what Asian grandma food taste like, you got to try this place.

We like coming here for some Taiwanese classics. I recommend the pork stick rice tower, pork pie, oyster omelette, and the pork potage with noodles. They also make tasty drinks. I recommend the fruit smoothies. The shop is run by a few older people, so please be patient with them as they prepare your order.

Saying this because I saw this during my last visit here. After ordering, please do not crowd the counter waiting for your food/drink. Please step back and allow other patrons to place their orders and avoid confusion.

If you like Taiwanese food this is a good spot to go! Even though it’s outside of downtown Chicago but it’s not too far, it’s about 30-40 minutes drive it depends if there is traffic or not. But it’s definitely worth trying. The owner is super nice and friendly. I will definitely visit again when I visit Chicago again.

Excellent quality/quantity. More than I can eat. 7.95 lunch special pictured, with added hot and sour soup. Had the orange chicken. Everything was Excellent. Awesome egg roll, and very friendly service. Place looks like a bus station, but once you get past that, the food is really good.

Love this place! If you want authentic Taiwanese food, this is the place to go. My favorites are: Pork over rice with tea egg, sticky rice in bamboo leaf, rice cake, red tofu soup, pork chop over rice, and stinky tofu!

Got the beef noodle soup, stir fried noodles with chicken, and stinky tofu. Stinky tofu was excellent — stinky, fresh, and really good pickled veg on top. The beef noodle soup did NOT skimp on the meat. Really good pieces of meat that had just enough tendon. Instead of baby bok choy, there was Napa cabbage and no pickled mustard greens, which was a huge miss for me. Noodle amount ok. The stir fried noodles tasted ok but were really oily and a little too salty. Chicken portion was solid though. Seating was clean (and there was a guy cleaning up after people) and shockingly not busy for a Sunday at noon. Really glad I came to try this place though.

Amazing picked veggies!! Perfectly tart, sweet, & a little spicy (5 stars)

Deep fried smelt had the best flavor of the others in the food court but lacked crispiness.
