I stopped by Orient Express in the Alum Rock area of San Jose around 5:30 PM. The restaurant has an old-school, traditional Chinese takeout feel and has been family-run for over 20 years.
The value is excellent. For $13, you get a 3-item combo with very generous portions, which is hard to find in San Jose these days. The orange chicken was crispy with a great meat-to-batter ratio—definitely not mostly flour—and honestly tasted better than Panda Express, in my opinion.
The food was well seasoned and didn’t taste oily. The owner was friendly and clearly takes pride in offering affordable food so people can eat well without spending much.
If you’re looking for a modern or fancy restaurant, this may not be the place. But if you care about good value, large portions, and solid food, this longtime local spot is worth supporting.

They give good size portions. The thing you should try if you do come here is the House Chicken. I don’t really come here anymore to be honest because I’ve just found so many strands of human hair in my food way too many times!!! It’s not funny and I get very sick from just the thought of hair in my food it’s happen way to much so I just don’t take the risk anymore it was getting to the point to every time I would get food here. It’s mostly always the noodles too. Also sometimes taste like the dishes they cooked the food in was not clean when they used it. I will spend my money some where else from now on .

Never seen anything like this place. Everything is dirty, floors, ceiling,trash, refrigerator for the drinks. Food had no steam and was not up to temperature. When served , the mushrooms and carrots were grey. Looks like the just threw some dirt on top. Their entire kitchen area disgusting, you can see layers of the charred oil from the food just left on all their pans. Meat was so solid you can not cut in it. Have no idea how they are still open, I guess food inspector hasn’t went by. Shut this place down

Decided to try this place based off of good reviews in the past. It’s disgusting, the store is so dirty. I would be weirded out if my mechanics shop was as dirty as this restaurant! Food is awful as well. Tasted like yesterday! Go to panda for your Chinese fix… and I hate panda. Health department needs to do an Inspection on this place.

Getting the car worked on at Wheel Works so it made sense to grab a bite to eat. The Orient Express fit the bill. Great reviews…. Food even better. They serve in togo boxes…. You can take out or eat in the dining area. Staff very friendly and helpful, answering questions on your choice of items. I’ll be back!

Food just OK. Atmosphere awful. Junk piles around restaurant. Boxes, stuff covered in old green garbage bags,… I came at 3:30 when only 1 other person was in restaurant. One employee talking loudly on phone in Chinese for a while. Several tables and chairs not clean. Windows dirty. Cash only. Three items (one must be rice or chow mein) is $7.06 so you end up with a pocket full of change. Sticky soy sauce bottle on table. Dirty hot sauce bowl. Hot sauce wasn’t hot. No beef dishes. I had broccoli chicken and cashew chicken. There wasn’t a single cashew in cashew chicken. I don’t understand how anyone can give 5 stars. 3 stars for food, 0 stars for cleanliness and atmosphere. Food was OK, although greasy, but very hard to enjoy in awful atmosphere!

This place been here for years since I was a lil boy I always came here and still do once in a while now the orange chicken is my favorite as well as the house chicken and the 5 flavored chicken with chow main or steamed rice they also always hook it up
