It was my fiancé’s birthday and wanted to treat him to a very special dinner. We travelled to Steamboat from California to snowboard and celebrate.

This place was PERFECT for a nice dinner.

FOOD – Their food was absolutely delicious! Their prime rib was served at perfect temp and their crab cakes were to die for! And they give you a bread basket when you sit down and wow, the cinnamon ones were amazing!

SERVICE – Professional, classy, friendly, and attentive. I really couldn’t ask for more. I even snuck to talk to our waitress because I wanted to pay for the table without them knowing, and she knew exactly what to do. She was amazing.

AMBIANCE – fancy, but not to the point where we felt uncomfortable. You don’t have to be super dressed up, but no raggedy clothes. Totally appropriate.

I will definitely be returning when we come back to Steamboat!

Converted from a barn into a Western style steakhouse in 1971, The Ore House offers a wonderful dining experience that leaves your wallet not too wounded.
My first big meal for my bachelor party, we stumbled in as a 7 top (we had reservations). Service was pretty good throughout, and the needs of the table were met well and in a timely fashion. The esthetic is dark, wood everywhere, clean, and inviting. It feels nearly perfect for what it is.
I started with the Mountain Margarita, Mezcal, Green Chartreuse, Maraschino Liqueur, lime juice, and agave nectar. It’s a unique take on a Last Word, subbing in Mezcal for the typical gin. I have to say it was exceptionally well balanced, and the smoke from the Mezcal does some magical things with the herbaceousness of the Chartreuse. Mexican, Italian, and French delights combine for an absolute treat on ice.
Apologies for my photo taking, I seemed to be on a role with photos before the last bite. We ordered potato skins for the table. They were hearty, cheesy, and exactly what I would want in one.
The salad bar is a nice addition. It comes with a meal. Everyone at the table was a fan of the wasabi ranch, an unexpected find but a very enjoyable one.
For my meal, I ordered the special, a bison ribeye with sides of onion rings and the house potato. Order whatever you want when you come here, but for the love of everything, order the house potato. Think of it as flash fried mashed potatoes with cheese sauce on top. The steak was well cooked and nicely seasoned, and everything was just as I would hope for. One of the members at our table did unfortunately have a steak cone out not cooked to their specification, but such things do happen.
A very nice experience, if I lived in Steamboat, I’d frequent the Ore House very often, and from what I hear, it is a local favorite.
If you make your way up, be sure to stop in. Just be careful saying the name quickly to strangers. It can sound like a place you might not want to tell people you are going to!!

Rustic and dark but delicious prime rib. Much better than the prime rib we had at “The Lounge”. If you like prime rib this is a must have stop.

The asparagus was meh and costly at $5 for 3 stems. The fried potato ball was also meh but prime rib is excellent.

While skiing in Steamboat, this restaurant came highly recommended by everyone I met. When I go to a steakhouse my go to choice is a ribeye but everyone recommended getting the prime rib here and I have to say, I echo that sentiment. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and the sides were excellent. We also had the baked brie and ribs for appetizers and they were very delicious as well. The service was also incredible as the entire waitstaff was very attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant if you need a dining option in Steamboat!

We made a reservation as a party of 12 and were sat in the upstairs room at 7:45pm. The server was friendly and came around for drink orders quick. After that though, nothing about this service was quick. About 20 minutes after we sat down, another party of 12 sat down as well. It took about 20 minutes for our drinks and then he took our food order. The entrees come with the salad bar and bread, and we even got cinnamon rolls which were great and a nice surprise! The salad bar had lots of toppings and was great that it was included in the meal since the prices here are quite high! We were waiting about 45 minutes for our food when the server came over to say they were busy and the kitchen was backed up so did we want some more drinks in the meantime (ploy to up our bill some more?!) Then we watched the other party of 12 get their food even though they sat down a good 20 minutes after us. It was close to 9:15 when we got our food and we sat at 7:45pm. Really!? 1.5 hours after sitting and about an hour after ordering we get our food. I understand being patient for a party of 12, but we had a reservation so they knew we were coming, and the other party of 12 sat after us and got their food way before us. I saw our server roaming around looking bored while we were waiting an hour for our food. Come on. For the price you pay here, the service was not cutting it. We had to flag somebody down to ask for more water. The table ordered a variety of food and drinks, all of which were pretty good. Everyone liked the house potato ball, though it was a tad crispy. One member paid the $4 upcharge for asparagus as a side and got 3 stems that weren’t even cooked correct and inedible (outrageous and a shame). I got the elk tenderloin at the server’s recommendation (one of the pricier entrees), and it was good, it was tender and not game-y. The other side was onion rings which came with 4. We also got the prime rib, which was cooked correct and was pretty good. The steamed broccoli though was not flavored or salted at all, literally just a plain stem of steamed broccoli. Listen, for a party of 12, our bill was over $1,000. Did our server earn the $200 tip, absolutely not. But yes we tipped him well anyway because he was friendly and nice. The theming around the restaurant is really cool to see, and the menu is actually large and expansive with a lot of options. However for us, as a party of two our share was over $200 and I just really felt disappointed in the whole experience, mostly the service. Our table should have gotten a visit from the manager there at the 45 minute wait for food mark. Luckily we didn’t have anywhere to be, but by the time we paid the bill it was 10pm. The restaurant closed at 9pm, and we were sat at 7:45pm. If you are looking for a nice place to go out and have a large variety menu at a steakhouse, then I would recommend. However our experience was tainted and unfortunately did not live up to the price tag.

I was born and raised here. This is my hometown, and the Ore House has been part of this community for longer than I’ve been alive. It was once fantastic which is why we chose it for a family celebration. Seeing how far it has fallen was genuinely upsetting.
The only redeeming parts of our visit were the bartender, who was very kind, and our server, who was friendly and clearly trying to do their job.
Unfortunately, the manager was the opposite in every way. He demonstrated a complete lack of competence, professionalism, and basic leadership skills. He was rude, dismissive, and incapable of handling even simple concerns. Rather than managing the situation, he escalated it—culminating in a yelling match with my dad in the middle of the restaurant, in full view of other customers. This was wildly inappropriate and should never happen in any establishment.
The food was absolutely awful—the only save was the steak. Its nowhere near the quality this restaurant was once known for.
What makes this experience unforgivable is how a young girl was treated on her 16th birthday, ultimately leaving her in tears on what should have been a joyful evening. Watching that happen because of adult incompetence and mismanagement was awful.
This wasn’t just a bad meal—it was a painful reminder of how a once-great hometown institution can be ruined by poor management.
We will not be returning, and I strongly urge others—especially local families—to think twice before choosing this place.

Busy place during the early dining hours. The early bird is a good deal, but the seasonal special is even better. Must visit if in the area and better call for a reservation.

Me and my family recently took a trip to Colorado and were in the Steamboat area. We were looking for a place to eat and ran across Ore House online. The menu looked tasty so we thought we would try it out. And I am glad we did. It was hands down the best meal I had while in Colorado.

Before I get into the food, I love how friendly the staff was. When we came in the hostess greeted us and she was very friendly. They are pretty busy so reservations are recommended unless you are cool dining at the bar. We ended up dining at the bar and I am glad we did because the bartender was so friendly. He offered great conversation and gave us tips on other places to check out in the area.

We asked him for sweet tea which wasn’t on the menu, but he made it sweet for us. We are ladies from the south who love our sweet tea. The bar tender knew the menu we’ll and was able to answer our questions about what is on the menu and any special requests.

I ordered the grilled Rocky Mountain ruby red trout, baked potato (with all the fixings to the side), and steamedbbroccoli with their special cheese sauce on the side. My mom ordered the sirlon with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. While we waited for our food we were told to grab a salad from the salad bar. Everything was fresh and there was a lot of variety of items to put on your salad. When we came back to our seats from the salad bar, the bar tender also brought us over some warm bread and cinnamon rolls.

We really enjoyed our meal and the customer service experienced in Colorado. Going to the Ore House felt very welcoming and I would recommend this resturant to anyone in steamboat. I will definitely be back during future trips.

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. We went to celebrate a 30th birthday and were met with rude staff and an inattentive waitress. Given the extremely high prices, we expected flavorful, well-prepared dishes, but the food was bland and lacked seasoning. The steak was overcooked despite being ordered rare, the broccoli was undercooked, and the house potato was completely tasteless.
To make matters worse, we sat at an empty table for about 10 minutes before our waitress even brought the check so we could pay. An automatic gratuity was also added, which felt unjustified given the poor service. Overall, we were very disappointed with both the quality of the food and the level of service. We would have had a far better experience elsewhere.

Overall a nice dinner and environment. Our reservation was at 7:15 and they were sold out of baby back ribs and lobster when we arrived. They were also out of the draft beer I ordered. Hostess let us know that the table they had held for us was not available because the prior guests had not left yet. It was overall “ok” and we enjoyed our meal but was nothing to write home about. Loved the salad bar. Server was very friendly and prompt.
