It smells funny here as you go in down the stairs.
The place felt a bit dated and even all waiters and waitresses here seems to be here forever as if they spent their entire life at this restaurant.
Food was not bad but loaded with sweet and sour heavy syrupy souse.
I would not return.

I love the throwback 1960’s atmosphere… unfortunately the food is mediocre to horrible at best. The fried rice must have been cooked hours before and lost flavor and was sticky; but served anyway! The hot and sour soup was far to spicy and their response was that they had a different chef preparing the soup earlier in the day. Their failure should not be my problem. They should have offered to replace with another soup, as it costs next to nothing to keep a customer happy. Admittedly, I did not ask for a replacement and only pointed out the issue of overseasoning. The main dish was adequate, while boring, I did not expect more than I got but I have had this dish in years past at this same restaurant with better preparation.
Overall, it’s time to write this place off the list. I have known this place for over 25 years and it’s a shame they couldn’t keep up their old standards.

Old School Charm, High-Quality Fare
A friend’s enthusiastic recommendation led me to a new Chinese spot that truly lives up to the hype.
From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets a high expectation. The interior isn’t sleek and modern; it’s a wonderfully executed throwback, evoking the feeling of a traditional, old-school Chinese restaurant. The decor, the lighting, the general atmosphere—it all gives you this immediate, comforting sense that you’re about to have some genuinely great, authentic food. It feels right.
The food itself certainly delivers. Everything we tried showcased excellent quality and fresh, distinct flavors. Yes, the dishes are on the expensive side, but this is one of those places where the price tag reflects the quality of the ingredients and the careful preparation. It’s an investment in a top-tier meal.
While I only got to sample a few items, the experience left me completely convinced. This restaurant is definitely a place I’ll be returning to soon to explore more of their menu. If you’re looking for high-quality Chinese food in a classic setting, and are willing to pay a little more for the quality, I highly recommend checking this place out.

We stopped in while visiting from out of town. We were there during the week and it was still relatively busy. The service throughout the night was outstanding. The ambience was really interesting. It felt high class. My Orchid Shrimp dish was excellent. A couple of the other dishes were overcooked a bit. We had two cocktails. My wife had a Malibu Bay Breeze that was very good. My Old Fashioned was very watered down. Even though everything wasn’t perfect we still enjoyed our evening.

Great place for family eating. If you are nostalgic about 1980’s decor this place is straight outta scarface. Loved it very much. Food was good and services adequate. A little pricey but worth the experience. Definitely will be returning with the family or a group of friends .

Nice place for a first date, quiet and clean, nice area with parking. The food is ok, portions of rice are small, and there is almost no difference between the lunch menu portion( $12.50) and the dinner menu portion ($27.50) there is no soy sauce or salt or pepper at the table if u want that u have to ask. Sesame chicken was ok nice flavor with a hint of sweetness. General tsos chicken was ok decent flavor and seasoning, not hot at all. Refills are not free small glass of soda is $6, basically a tall shot glass.

The food is sub par— one dish was so bland I could not tell what I was eating. The orange chicken was all fatty dark meat covered in sauce, for 32 bucks. The portions are extremely small and, and I mean small—and they have park ave in Manhattan prices. 3 people, 2 entrees, fried rice, dumplings 165.00 bucks including tip. They have to be kidding me. Will never go back. I had better food at Panda Express. We all went home hungry because the food was that bad.

There is truly no finer Chinese food on Long Island than Orchid! We have been coming for the past 20 years and always have a great experience!! The service is always top notch thanks to our favorite waiter Gary who has become a part of the family! The food is second to none; our favorite appetizers include the scallion pancakes, their ribs, dumplings, crab Rangoon’s, and of course the egg rolls. Their Peking duck is phenomenal as well as the sesame chicken, multiple lo mein’s, and the best pork fried rice!! Their ice cream is the perfect end to the wonderful feast!! Highly recommend!!

Grabbed take out from here and the food is awesome! I ordered beef chow fun, pork fried rice, and scallion pancakes. Everything is amazing. I come to garden city a lot on business and I will now be eating here everyone I am here. Wish I had this place back home.
