Nestled in the charming neighbourhood of Steveston, this cute little Japanese restaurant is a delightful gem for lovers of Japanese cuisine. The ambiance is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed dining experience. One of the standout features of this restaurant is its commitment to serving fresh, high-quality ingredients, particularly evident in their sashimi offerings.

The sashimi here is incredibly fresh, bursting with natural flavours that highlight the quality of the seafood. Their wild salmon is an absolute must try! Succulent, richly flavoured, and expertly sliced to perfection. It’s evident that great care goes into selecting and preparing each piece, ensuring a delectable bite every time.

In addition to the outstanding food, the prices are reasonable, making it an excellent choice for both casual lunches and special dinners. The menu offers a diverse range of options, catering to both traditional tastes and those seeking something a bit different.

Overall, this Japanese restaurant in Steveston is a fantastic spot to enjoy delicious, fresh sashimi and more. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s worth stopping by to savour their wild salmon and experience the genuine hospitality and quality that set this place apart.

I went there on Wednesday, and honestly, it wasn’t a great experience. The food was edible, but quite dry. The rolls were especially disappointing—they were oddly assembled, with all the cream cheese bunched up in one part and the cucumber or avocado clumped in another. It made the texture and taste really uneven, and not enjoyable to chew. This was the first time I’ve seen sushi rolls put together like that. Overall, it didn’t feel like even a mediocre experience, and I’m not sure I’d want to come back.

We had a lovely dinner at Ora Sushi this evening. Food was tasty, although portions were on the smaller side. We ordered the sunomono salad, gomae salad, volcano roll, and vegetable yakisoba. The service was exceptional and worth mentioning – we were greeted by and waited on by two young servers (I think their names were Midori and Damien?) who were both friendly and courteous. Despite it being quite busy in the dining room that evening, we really appreciated the attentive and efficient service they provided throughout our meal. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and highly recommended!

Another Steveston spot we walked by but never stopped in…until today. We had an early meal. Three sushi rolls and a plain udon. My date gave the plain udon a “Ten out of ten”. The rolls were delicious and the yam tempura was still hot. The price is on the higher end but it is Steveston so its on par with other restaurants in that area.

Ora Sushi is a cute little spot in the heart of Steveston Village and has all of the usual Japanese fare with a few “wow” items for the adventurous! I had a craving for udon, and the beef yakiudon did not disappoint! They have a respectable sushi selection of rolls, sashimi and nigiri.

A friend told me this place is good. I was skeptical and thinking it’s just another sushi joint. When I got there I see the dishes on the other tables looked good. I ordered the golden roll. It was smaller than I expected for $15 but the presentation was good and more importantly taste was pretty good! My friend had a sukiyaki hot pot. She said there weren’t enough beef and soup, the waiter brought out another bowl of beef and soup in generous portions. My friend like the candy that came with the bill, she asked the waiter where to buy and the lady (owner) came out to greet her and gave her a small bag of those candy. This is one of the best sushi joint I have visited so far.

A decent sushi place with quite a variety of rolls. The food was really good and fresh. The names of their rolls are very creative. Service wise, I suppose it is because the servers were new when we came a couple months ago, but dishes were served to the wrong table and the receipt was not discounted when we ordered the special. They did correct the errors, but everything was nice other than those.

The food is good. Sashimi is fresh and the dishes are innovative. My friend and I overordered not known the portions were going to be so big. We didn’t end up finishing a single dish, I got lots to pack for lunch tmrw.

Update: February 20, 2023. We came back to give it another go. They’ve improved substantially since my last visit. I heard that the chef from Mega Sushi has allegedly moved to this restaurant, which is a very good thing. I ordered the Sashimi and Sushi bento. the food was excellent and fresh. The chicken karaage was nicely seasoned. The sashimi tasted fresh. The salmon roll had a beautiful mayo Sriracha topping which added to a wonderful tasting roll. The house salad was fresh and nice dressing. The service is always great here and they are attentive. I had to share my meal with my son who ordered tuna sashimi which came on a bed of ice and apparently was very fresh as well. My wife ordered the agedashi tofu, a California roll and miso soup. I’m so glad we came back given our last visit was not pleasant. The new chef has revived this restaurant and I’d love to come back to try the Ora tower. Thank you for the experience.
NB: Went back again and had the Ora tower and was so very pleased. Unlike the tower from the other restaurants.

This is the first time I go and probably would be the last. I seldom give a low star rating unless it’s really bad. This place is overpriced and food is mediocre. The portion of the food is so little. Especially the pork katsu, there’s only 2 bites of rice and the pork chop was dry and thin like paper. There’s too many choices out there.

Service was not bad though. The server would refill the tea for us when served dishes to our table.
