Veteran eatery serving familiar Italian & Greek fare in a cozy & memorabilia-filled brick space.

Such a Charlotte gem! The inside is full of charm from times past. The staff is super sweet and make you feel like family. And the food, ohhhhh the food. Each dish I’ve had is so flavorful. And the portions are HUGE. It’s almost 3 meals. Take home boxes are a must!

I live in Raleigh but my wife’s family lives in Charlotte, so we are in town several times a year… and every single time, I beg them for the opportunity to go to Open Kitchen for dinner. Next to my beloved Luigi’s in my hometown of Fayetteville, I can honestly say this is some of the best food I have ever had. The bread is UNGODLY, as is the incredible pizza. The atmosphere is wonderful, as well… I personally love all the sports pennants on the wall. If you are ever in the 704 (perhaps you’re looking for a good pregame meal before a Panthers, Hornets, or Knights game), do yourself a favor and enjoy the incredible food at Open Kitchen!

Our family had such an incredible dinner at open kitchen. It was our first time trying it and we were so pleased first and foremost Heather was so kind welcoming, and made us feel right at home! She had great recommendations and everything we ate was delicious! My recommendation the Ravioli Parmesan! We can’t wait to go back and try some other things on the menu! Again, thank you Heather!

The Open Kitchen is a Charlotte treasure. For over 60 years, this American – Italian – Greek style of Italian restaurant has represented comfort food at its finest. I’ve been eating here for more than 20 years and it still fills me up and satisfies me with great food. From Christina behind the counter to a complement of servers that have been there for years, this restaurant is an experience and a pleasure. It may not be fine dining, but it’s damn good food.

This place is for sure a hidden gem unless you know about it! The food is absolutely amazing! The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect and is like stepping back in time. The crabmeat Parmigiana is what drew me to this place and it did NOT disappoint! From the appetizer to the main dishes right down to the dessert, everything was phenomenal and I can’t wait to go back and work my way thru this menu! It’s a definite must try in the Charlotte area!!!

Really enjoyed the spot! I highly recommend chicken or veal Barcelona and really go easy with the red sauce. The way they browned the butter with the noodles is phenomenal! You really get the feel of home cooked Italian food. It’s not often you find Italian food that taste like its cooked in a family kitchen. 10/10 would highly recommend if you’re craving Italian food that you can only get from a family kitchen.

I went here with my husband and parents the other night. We loved everything about the restaurant. It had great food, the prices and portions were amazing, and the AC worked. (That was fantastic!) The calamari was delicious. I got the small Caesar salad along with the chicken alfredo, and my mom got the large Caesar salad. We enjoyed every bit of out dinner here and will definitely be back. 🙂
10/10 recommend

I was excited to try this “landmark” restaurant. I ordered the Veal Juliano which was described on the menu as being served with a mushroom wine sauce and a side of spaghetti marinara. Well, the dish came out and was not what menu described at all. It was covered in marinara sauce. When I told this server it wasn’t what I ordered, she said yes it was. I asked where the mushroom wine sauce was she said that the marinara was the mushroom wine sauce. I told her that I didn’t want marinara and she then told me that all their pasta dishes were served with marinara except one. She brought me that instead and it was horrible and dry. It was supposed to be some type of brown butter sauce, but honestly it was tasteless, and the dish was extremely dry. I was nothing but nice, but I sensed tension from our server for the rest of the meal. If you go to this restaurant I would go knowing that their menu descriptions are misleading. In what world is mushroom wine sauce and marinara the same? I was very disappointed and will not be going back.

The interior is as cute as you’d want and the service was fantastic. The food just isn’t good. Others reviewers have indicated this is authentic Italian. It isn’t.
NZ ordered Chicken Parmigiana (Parmesan) and was not pleased. The chicken is not fried or cutlet style. It appears to be grilled and quite possibly (probably) microwaved. The accompanying spaghetti was overcooked and the sauce bland. How was it pasty and watery at the same time?
My Lasagna had the strangest flavor and had an odd consistency. Was it also microwaved? I think it was. The gray meat filling was off-putting and the remainder mushy and unidentifiable as a lasagne.
From the time to we were seated to the time we exited was 24 minutes. It was almost like it never happened. I don’t know why we boxed our uneaten entrees with us; we threw them away immediately. It seemed like the polite thing to do because our server was so polite and friendly.
I’m not going to dwell on this review because I want to forget we ever went here. I’m glad I had some M&Ms in the car to get that sickening flavor of the lasagna out of my mouth. Cloves? Marjoram? Coriander? I don’t know but it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons.
NZ enjoyed her wine and my Diet Coke was cold.
Stars for decor and service only. I want the Men in Black fellas to come eradicate this dining experience memory from my mind. Shout out to M&M’s for being there when I needed them most.

My wife and I have been eating at this establishment for 50 plus years.
The service that was provided during one of our recent visits was below the excellent standards that is usually provided from the OK staff.
The new server we had was more interested in talking on her phone than performing her duties. Initially, she didn’t bring the right drinks that were ordered, when she finally came back to the table and we informed her of the mistake, she didn’t bring the right drinks back for 10 minutes!
We ordered our food and when it arrived at the table two of the dishes out of four were not what was ordered.
In the mean time, she has been back on her phone between all these episodes…
At one time she placed her pocket book over her shoulder and acted as if she was leaving the restaurant??
We did not know what her issue was, but she definitely should not have been working that evening.
Hopefully, the management of OK will strive to be more aware of their servers and their needs in the future.
