I’m not sure whether this spot is popular among locals, but as a visitor, I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to eat here. It didn’t feel worth the time or money compared to other dining options in the city.
Tried the oyako onigiri (grilled salmon and ikura), grilled eel onigiri plus the karaage.
For the onigiri – the portions are really good and the seaweed is very crisp, you can tell it’s freshly made. The oyako tasted good but didn’t really stand out because I think the salmon could have been seasoned a bit better. I personally preferred the grilled eel onigiri – the eel was very meaty and portion was also really good. What was a bit lacking with the onigiri was the rice, which is kind of the most important I feel like. The rice didn’t taste freshly made because it was lukewarm. Maybe it had just cooled, but I wanted the rice to be warmer and more mochi.
Karaage was okay, nothing special. I think the chicken were cut too large so the flavor was lacking. Wouldn’t recommend.
Portions are good but it’s on the more expensive side – came out to $30 for everything after tax and tips.
The Unagi rice bowl was edible with a generous portion, though the eel texture felt overly soft.
The Agedashi tofu was shocking, thick, starchy sauce with completely soggy tofu and muted aromatics.
The Grilled saba was the best dish: crispy outside, juicy inside, and honestly saved the meal.
Overall, very uneven execution. One solid fish dish couldn’t make up for the rest.
I ordered Matcha Tea Lemonade as a drink and it was delightful if you are into little tangy taste w/ matcha. Ebi Mayo Onigiri was bigger than I expected and it is so good. Would get it again! Yaki Onigiri with sweet miso paste was my first time and it was alright, crispy and the flavor as describe by the flavor, but it did not like “wow” me. I’m gonna try another flavor next time I come by. Lastly, main entree is Donburi (rice bowl) Una Tama Jyu. Portion is huge than I anticipated, it was exquisitely delicious! comes with miso soup to enhance the flavor when feeling full.
Imo I felt really peaceful. It’s not the kind of restaurant that when it’s dead or empty atmosphere. I went solo. I do like the music they displayed. It’s not the peaceful music, but like artist from Americans, to J-pop, and k-pop. Sorta like snapping back to reality. It is a nice balance overall. I would recommend any travelers to come this restaurant to give it a try!
We ordered: Onigiri Unagi Cheese, Mokaido Cod Special, Onogiri Shrimp Tempura (Honey Mayo), Cheesy rice ball, Udon, Domburi
It’s a small place with small tables so there’s often a wait.
Menu has alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices to start with a wide range of choices. The Lychee soda and Lychee Oolong tea are both fantastic non-alcoholic choices. They have beer and saki available as well.
For food you really cannot go wrong. We had the edamame and gyoza along with California onigiri to start. All of which were excellent.
For mains we had the Katsu Curry, Piri Kara Buta Bara Don, Mini Su Udon, Karaage Salad all of which were excellent and highly recommend. Portions are ample- you will not leave hungry! Service staff is helpful food was delicious. Wife approved!
Place is small do make reservations if possible- otherwise wait will appraise 30-35 minutes. Very off the beaten path but extra worth it.
Service is average.
Decor and atmosphere is cute, but I dislike the uncomfortable stool seating. It’s weird that two tables have cushioned chairs with backs and the rest of them are wooden stools. No coat rack or hooks for your stuff.
The prices are on the higher end of average.
