Blue Ocean – St. Louis is my favorite spot for vegetarian sushi, hands down! We’ve been going to them for over a decade, and they have so many fun and unique veggie rolls! They have daily specials but Wednesday’s is currently the best value for veg rolls ($8 regular rolls). They will be moving out of their Delmar loop location soon, and I can’t wait to see where they land so I can hopefully keep eating this delicious sushi for years and years to come!

My favorite (vegetarian) rolls:
– tempura fried cali (remove crab!!)
– sweet tofu (very unique!)
– spicy asparagus & cream cheese!!
– fried sweet potato
– Hazbin & Cajun Fun Guy are both new and very good (I just love the other ones a bit more!)

Smaller portions & higher priced than we expected but the food was good. We ended up having to order a second round to fill up from another server in our section because ours didn’t come check on us for a long time. It was busy and we’ve had better experiences here last time we were in town.

I decided to check out Blue Ocean for dinner, upon arrival it was pretty quiet and I was swiftly greeted and seated by friendly staff. The atmosphere leans heavy into Japanese pop culture oriented decor including retro anime and kaiju themes with a little bit of a cozy izakaya energy, and the menu leans heavily into the same Japanese inspiration and is complimented by a whiskey and drink bar. I ordered the goons and takoyaki as appetizers, the goons were well fried, layered, and crispy with a filling that was nicely seasoned to separate it self from the general crab rangoons you’ll find across the STL area, the takoyaki were soft and chewy however the flavor was a little overpowered by the oil it was fried in. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with onsen egg, Godzilla roll, and chashu don, the spicy miso ramen broth was well seasoned and had a good body however it was not spicy, the pork and onsen egg were well cooked and melted in the mouth, the Godzilla roll was a unique blend of creamy, chewy and crunchy delights, and the chashu don was pleasant and the pork melted in the mouth the same as the spicy miso ramen’s pork. If you’re looking for a fun Japanese themed outing and dishes, you’ll very well find Blue Ocean fits the bill.

This is my friend’s favorite place to get sushi so we checked it out after work. The decor is all about gaming and anime which is why it’s his favorite.

We started out with the gyoza and popcorn chicken and then enjoyed the caterpillar roll and the house recommended La Flama Blanca. Y the gyoza was nice and crispy. The popcorn chicken was dredged in a very light tempura flour making it crispy yet not heavy. The rolls were both beautiful and tasty.

Went here for a date night. The ambiance was perfect. The sushi and the drinks were great our main entrees were ramen and it just didn’t bring home the dining experience. As others mentioned the noodles were overcooked and stuck together and the broth was flavorless. Overall would definitely recommend still just for the sushi and the vibes.

How lucky I was to discover Blue Ocean for my first time trying sushi! A VIBE!!! Especially if you like dreamy, interesting atmospheres. For me, the lighting and music gave Saigon. The pop art wall art transports you to Japan. I got the crab Rangoon, and it was some of the best I’ve had. I forgot the name of my sushi choice, but check the pics for a visual. Definitely will be back!

*4 stars on service simply for the wait to be seated. Otherwise, our waiter was cool and she gave good info on the dishes!

I was shopping around in the Loop when I stumbled upon this sushi bar. The dim, moody lighting created a nice ambiance. However, when I ordered a drink, the waitress informed me that the bartender was across the street(?) and that it would be a few minutes. I ended up waiting about 10 to 15 minutes for my cocktail.

When my food arrived, I noticed a smashed gnat in my ramekin. On top of that, the sushi was warm and unappetizing. I had been looking forward to a great sushi experience, but unfortunately, I was disappointed.

That said, my server was very kind, so I have no complaints about the service. I just wish my overall experience had been better.

I am a big sushi fan and this was subpar at best. The crab rangoon was the best thing. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all but it took about 15 minutes for someone to offer drinks. We were ready almost immediately and still waited another 5-10 minutes to place our order. Our food came out in reasonable time but I personally thought that ramen was not pleasing at all to my taste buds. I asked my kids if they liked it since they too love ramen and they had the same expression. The sushi rolls are over decorated with toppings and the toppings aren’t great at all. I won’t be back but they were willing to replace our food.

Super chill spot to grab a bite and fun drinks. A little pricey for the size, it’s giving denver but in STL…. Still delicious though! I had two rolls, some apps and a few drinks. The French 69 and the Sega Gin-esis were yummy. Sushi deal was decent $7 for regular rolls. Rolls were good sizes too.

Server was kind and service wasn’t quick but I was also not in a rush 🙂
