Although this food is on the pricey side, it’s worth it. It is some buttery melt in your mouth goodness! The lamb shank was divine and worth every penny. We also did the gnocchi with crab and we did the salmon as well. Also the creme brulee and the chocolate tart are to die for! Also I’ve never had a mushroom tart quite like that. And the samosas were so delicious! The waiter told me everything was made on site and fresh and local. Highly recommend!

I really wanted to love the food at this higher dining place and unfortunately was disappointed. The restaurant has a cute old looking set-up in the heart of downtown Iowa City and they have some outside seating too. The service was excellent, our waiter was professional, answered all our questions about the menu, gave us time to decide, and checked to see if we needed anything several times. However, the reason for my lower rating was the food. We ordered the Vegan Thai Grilled Veg and the Lamb Osso Bucco and honestly they were nothing extraordinary like I was expecting, especially for the high price. The veggies on the vegan dish tasted fresh, but the rice was super oily and tasted more burned instead of fried, and although the coconut cream tastes okay the contrast to the other flavors didn’t seem to compliment the dish in my opinion. I liked how tender the meat was and the taste of the grilled asparagus on the Lamb Osso Bucco dish. But the polenta didn’t taste like it was freshly made, it tasted like a boxed mix and the amount of gravy/sauce on the dish was too much. We were considering ordering dessert but due to the disappointment from the entrees we changed our minds.

I had the roasted chicken sandwich and the po’ boy sandwich. Both were fresh and amazing! The hand-cut fries were a great touch. I can’t wait to return.

Excellent vegan/vegetarian options for my wife, and my pork vindaloo was fantastic. The portion sizes were spot-on. Our server was polite, engaging, and offered well-informed recommendations when requested. We sat in a window upstairs, and very much enjoyed the brick-walled space. The view is nice but not spectacular (baby Target across the street), and the interior would benefit from some decorations, maybe black and white photos and some plants. All in all, a great experience and we absolutely would visit again next time we’re in Iowa City.

The Pork Vindaloo is the best dish I’ve ever eaten. Hands down. I live in the Bay Area surrounded by bougie restaurants. This apparently is a family restaurant and the Vindaloo apparently is a family recipe. Soooo goood. Wife had the home made crab gnocchi and it was also excellent. Highly recommend this place!

I love One Twenty Six. I take my family and friends here when they haven’t been and we’ve had nothing but great experiences. I’m obsessed with their Scottish salmon (the best salmon I’ve ever had- hands down), osso bucco, salads, crab cakes, samosas, croquetas, and we most recently tried their Pork Vindaloo which was served French style. I love the blending of Indian flavors and French cooking. They have great wine selection. Mathew the owner is right there with his servers talking to customers and working hard which we also thought was awesome. The other servers on his team have also been fantastic, knowledgeable and fun to talk to. This place is elegant, but not stuffy at all. It makes for a great dinner before catching a show at the Englert or Riverside theater.

This is billed as an upscale French restaurant. I don’t know if we caught them on an off night or what. The lamb was passable but I didn’t like the watery texture of the polenta. My husband had the hanger steak which was way overpriced for chewy meat and a huge plate of French fries. The desserts were delicious. They have an extensive wine selection and a full bar but no cocktail menu.

Lots of vegan and vegetarian options alongside some classic fare. Salmon 10/10 and the cauliflower 9/10. Flourless chocolate torte is the best in the city. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and proud to welcome everyone to dine at this fine restaurant.

Enjoyed graduation weekend dinner at this restaurant, and everyone agreed the food was excellent. Waitress seated our group (7) upstairs, which is more of an overflow area. Management – I recommend replacing the plain wire back chairs as they are extremely uncomfortable, especially if you end up sitting in one for more than 30 minutes.
