Sam the man as our server, he was great and attentive. Food id give an 8/10. Mac n cheese was room temp at best, smoked fried chicken was a tad too cooked. But the highlight of this establishment was the woman’s restroom! Salt scrub!!! Yep you heard me, salt scrub for those hands. Silky smooth hands after dinner. Highly recommend using that washroom while visiting, I did 3x! Overall 9/10.

We came in for a late lunch around 2pm on a Friday and it was pretty quiet. My wife had the Southern Salad (not exact but came with pulled pork), and I had the Ribs and smoked fried chicken, with dirty rice w gravy, and baked beans. We started with the grilled chicken wings and they were some of the best i’ve had.

Sides were fantastic! The chicken and ribs were good, though ive had better. My wife enjoyed her salad but could only eat half as it was sizable for her. Overall very good food. Very reasonable price for BBq.

Service was good, though slow at times, and the atmosphere typical for a bbq joint.

One oddity, though nothing big, was the bathroom being located in a separate building from the restaurant.

A really good BBQ place. We were able to try 4 of the meats and they were all excellent. The flavor of the meats was so good that you really didn’t any sauce. The chili is also as good as advertised.

They have a huge patio area which is pet friendly.

Stopped in at One Hot Mama’s while on Hilton Head, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent from start to finish. The Stack-A-Mac was amazing. Creamy, cheesy, and the smoked brisket on top was perfect. Easily one of the best appetizer dishes I’ve had in a while.

I also had the Onion Haystack Cheeseburger, and it was outstanding. Perfectly cooked medium-rare burger with great flavor and the crispy onion straws that gave it the right crunch and sweetness.

Good service, fun atmosphere, and solid BBQ all around. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

I walked in thinking I had an hour, but they had just changed to winter hours and were closing. But I’m so thankful they took the time to who me to something delicious to go. I ordered a cup of their burnt ends chili (with a bit of delicious cornbread), and the nachos. They were exquisite! Not only ready and packaged in just 10mins, but hot, fresh and flavorful. The meat on the nachos was plentiful and the pieces of burnt ends in the chili were huge. It was delicious. And they were priced reasonably, and I was given very friendly and prompt service by multiple people. The dining room was very comfortable, though I didn’t get to stay long, it overall was a great experience with great food, atmosphere and service.

They are a turn just before the immediate entrance gate to the Pines, but don’t worry if you miss them, the Pines will let you turn around without needing to pay.

That restaurant was amazing.. I had the brisket stroganoff.. OMFG one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had anywhere in the world. I was shocked.. I thought I would like it because I like that dish and it was a specialty of there’s but I wouldn’t ever think it would be better than pasta at basically every Italian restaurant… At a BBQ place??? My wife’s dish was very good also. She had smoked fried chicken.. it was special because it was different and done very well. The Carolina Gold sauce was spectacular. Overall everything we ate was ether well above average or something special. Service was good enough and the atmosphere is nice for a BBQ place. Definitely worth going to.

First meal after arriving & it neva disappoints! She had fried chicken & ribs with baked beans & collards. I tried the BBQ lovers=ribs, pulled pork & brisket with lime beans & mac&cheese.
Everything very good…we even ordered a lb of brisket for later!
Jalyn was our server & she was very attentive & efficient.

One Hot Mama was lukewarm. We ordered the Pulled Pork Plate, BBQ Combo Plate with brisket, and Bone-In wings. For drinks, we had lemonade, sweet tea, and an Arnold Palmer. I applaud our waitress for providing quality service despite serving a large part of the restaurant. The bone-in wings were also impressive. The Backyard Bbq and Hot Asian flavors turned the tender wings into two distinct experiences. It’s understandable how the juicy wings are award winning. However, the other entrees did not meet expectations. The brisket had significantly more fat than meat, and the pulled pork was on the overcooked side. Both meat entrees lacked seasoning. The fries were cooked unevenly; some pieces were crispy, and others were soggy. My daughter and I ordered the mac and cheese, but we ended up with two different variations of the classic dish. The collard greens were flavorful. The remaining sides ended the meal on a high note. The cornbread had small spicy pepper chunks that added a surprising kick. The flavorful baked beans offset their bland counterparts. The lackluster meal could have been because of an off day, or that’s the standard experience. I would go one more time to find out and leave it at that.

We enjoyed the experience, & the service was great, but if you’re looking for knock your socks off BBQ, you might be slightly disappointed.

They do a great job of listing GF options & our server was very knowledgeable about what was & wasn’t GF. Having said that, I was a bit perplexed that some items were glutinous, such as the baked beans & queso. It’s very rare to see baked beans with wheat & most places are making their queso GF these days.

Let’s get into specific foods:

Grilled Wings: We ordered the Maui Wowii & Backyard Bbq. The wings were very tasty, but slightly over Grilled. I would definitely get the Maui Wowii again & would probably try the fried wings next time instead of the grilled.

Smoked Brisket: the meat was moist & pretty tender, but lacked that full Texas flavor. If I was the pitmaster, I’d increase the salt & pepper rub by like 35%. A shame for a well cooked brisket to be kind of flavorless.

Smoked Turkey: much like the brisket, it was well smoked, but again was lacking the full flavor profile you’d expect from smoked turkey.

Baby Back Ribs: I was the outsider on this one; most of the group loved the ribs, but I was slightly disappointed. They were drenched in sauce & charred more than I perfer. If you’re looking for that St. Louis style of ribs, then you’d probably love these, but if you’re looking for the traditional smoked pork rib, which let’s the seasoning & smoke speak shine, these aren’t it.

Cornbread: obviously, I did not partake in the cornbread appetizer, but those that did said it was very delicious. Note: if you’re GF, make sure to ask them to leave the cornbread off of your BBQ plate to avoid cross-contamination.

Sides: the fries were great & everyone seemed to enjoy the broccoli, green beans, & mac & cheese.

Kids Meals: my daughter loved the hot dog sliders & my son liked the butter pasta. The hotdogs & bun for the sliders are huge, so my 4 year old did kind of struggled to eat it.

Happy Hour: the drinks were good & the happy hour prices were a great deal.

Overall: we would recommend One Hot Mama’s, especially for the happy hour, or if you like St. Louis style ribs & think Texas BBQ uses too much seasoning, but if i was specifically looking for good Texas BBQ, I’d probably try one of the other places on the island first.

This group owns a lot of restaurants and this used to be Nectars, which we love and recently opened down the street.

One Hot Mama’s is really good and so much better than Bullies, and is already busy. Ribs are perfect and sides excellent. Restaurant is busy and bar has happy hour 4-7.

Overall, amazing barbecue joint on the island, enjoy!!
