We were in Tampa and parked right next to this Sushi restaurant. So we thought let’s check it out and we were super happy with what we got!

Never again!! I pick up lunch from On a Roll Sushi as I work right across the street. I was having oral surgery last Friday, so Thursday on my way to the parking garage after work, I picked up a quart of Miso soup as I can only have soft foods for two weeks. I pick up the soup, secure it on the floor next to me in my car along with my lunch bag, laptop and tote, and drive home 30 miles. When I get home, I pick up the soup, and the plastic bag it was in was filled with the soup which leaked all over my passenger floor and my laptop bag. I bring it inside and see the soup leaked out from a slice in the bottom of the container.
For $11.77, I call the establishment to inquire about a replacement when I go back to work. The guy who sits at the front table when not cooking answers the phone. I tell him what happened. He immediately starts screaming and yelling at me and asking me why I didn’t notice immediately it was leaking. Why? Because at that moment it was not leaking. I literally walked 50 feet to my car and drove home.
He was miserable, screaming at me barely audible that it was my fault. He wouldn’t let me speak. Interestingly enough, while I was waiting, I heard the woman packing up the soup drop plastic containers on the floor. A very distinct sound. When I suggested to the guy that perhaps she gave me one of those containers, he started yelling belligerently that if his staff dropped a container, why would I think that’s the container given to me.
I went in there two weeks ago, spent $20 on lunch, used my card and then realized I forgot a drink. They would not then let me put the water on the card claiming minimum $5. Even after I just spent $20.
The worst customer service, I will never recommend or frequent this business. However, at a C rating in health codes and no customers at 5:15, guess he felt entitled to be rude. This establishment is lacking in cleanliness and customer service.

I came here during Gasparilla weekend and was in urgent need of a bathroom, but my friends and I also planned to eat sushi kill two birds with one stone, right? As soon as we walked in, the cashier was immediately rude. He told us he overheard our conversation outside about using the bathroom, said he “wasn’t stupid,” and told us he’d be charging us to use it.
After going back and forth, he charged us $30 just to use the bathroom. While my friend was waiting, the chef/owner (not sure which) started aggressively yelling at her, accusing her of not paying. He was verbally attacking her until one of his employees stepped in to calm him down and let him know we had already paid. Not once did he apologize after being completely wrong.
What’s wild is that if they had been nice and professional from the beginning I would’ve paid whatever they asked and definitely spent more money there. Instead the entire interaction was uncomfortable and unprofessional.
Shoutout to the employee who apologized on his behalf she was genuinely sweet and professional. That’s the only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of 1. No bullshit.

A nice little sushi place that’s hidden in the depths of Downtown Tampa. This place isn’t in the best condition being under a parking garage, as the floors were dirty. However, there were some redeeming points about the decor; like the mural on the wall. The service was very friendly and was quick with our food.
The food here is great! I enjoyed my Crab Rangoon here. The chicken curry had a great flavor to it, as well as the rice. My sushi tasted alright, but it wasn’t excellent as the curry. Overall, would come here if you’re willing to get some Japanese food in Downtown Tampa.

My husband and I have been coming to On A Roll for years!! We will sometimes drive up to an hour, but their food is so worth it! Our favorites are salmon lover roll and man roll – the owners are extremely kind and it is always a pleasure to see them. Give this family-owned business a try, you won’t regret it!

Delicious sushi rolls, and even though they’re a bit pricier(I mean you’re downtown so expect that), the portions were very big and the rolls are very stuffed. Well balanced flavors and fish, not like some places that just bloat rolls with a bunch of rice and cucumbers. The employee who helped us could be a little friendlier but they were in no way rude or mean, and everyone overall is attentive and kept the dine in area clean. They have plenty of roll options, and some pictures by the register to show what some of them look like. They also have a few cold tea drinks but there is no dairy-free options as they told us it’s all pre-made for the day. Water self serve station is available. We’ll definitely be coming back to try out all the rolls they offer.

Phenomenal sushi paired with exceptional service. Every roll was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. The 911 Roll, Sexy Roll, and Tuna Lover Roll were crowd favorites. Highly recommend for anyone craving top-quality sushi. Thanks for being open on Christmas Eve.
