Wow..wow..wow! On the Bay definitely made my last night in Tassie worthwhile. As a coeliac, there were plenty of gluten free options and the wonderful waitress understood my condition. Started off with the Ceviche which honestly blew my mind with the flavour, my mum had the freshest oysters paired with lemon. Onto main, the Jerk Chicken with mashed plantains was succulent and a perfect size. The highlight.. the Crème Caramel with wattleseed! As I also have a nut allergy, the macadamia brittle was removed by the chef prior to serving… when I say this is the best dessert I ever had, it was! That wattleseed sprinkle (which is custom made by the chef) was tempting me into getting a second plate! On the Bay has excellent service, a stunning view and is worth every cent. As we stayed on the property we had our wonderful guest services book a table the night before, she suggested that it’s very popular and a booking is a must!

That’s a fantastic dinner we had at on the bay restaurant last Friday !! It’s been a long time I didn’t have steak like this …. extraordinarily delicious and amazing! The flavours were exotic and unique, I could tell the chef tried his/her best to create an art of taste on your palate.
I chose two courses which all of my friends did too, the entree was Coconut & Blood Lime Ceviche , when I tasted it, the flavours included fantastic complexity and levels, a beautiful fusion between Thai and French cuisine (that’s how I felt). Main course I order BBQ steak, the potato is the most speciality of this restaurant. It’s the first time I had such unique potato!! It’s not only a food, but it’s art!!! At that moment, I was feeling like a judge is tasting the dishes on a “master chef competition” and this one is the one whom I’m convinced to advance this chef to go for the Champion.
You won’t regret to drive a long trip and take a shot for it in Port Arthur!

One of the most memorable dining experiences we had in Tasmania was at On the Bay. The market fish special of the day, Blue-eye Trevalla, was absolutely outstanding.
The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and beautifully delicate, served with fragrant rice and a rich, well-balanced sauce. The flavours were bold yet refined, with an exciting combination of mint, mandarin, caramelised onion, dill, coconut, and cumin. Every bite delivered layers of flavour, creating a harmonious blend of freshness, warmth, and subtle sweetness.
The accompanying pomegranate salad added a refreshing contrast and lifted the entire dish, perfectly complementing the richness of the fish. Presentation was elegant, and the quality of the ingredients was clearly exceptional.
Service was equally impressive — the two lovely waitresses were warm, welcoming, and constantly smiling, which made the experience feel relaxed and genuinely hospitable from the moment we arrived.
For anyone who appreciates creative, high-quality seafood paired with outstanding service, On the Bay is a must-visit when in Port Arthur. A truly memorable experience.

The flavours in the three course meal make your tongue pop; they are so well articulated, finished and presented. Your mouth will water, honestly the best food we have had on our trip. Big portion sizes, my mum and I shared a three course menu and we were stuffed. The staff is friendly and the waterfront view is beautiful. It’s conveniently located, definitely a MUST VISIT in the area! Nice and quiet to talk. I would recommend booking, we had no dramas but by how good the food is I can imagine it would get busy on weekends.

It’s slightly disappointing that the main meals and one of the drinks we wanted weren’t available. We settled for an entree and a side each and staff seemed happy to accomodate this. The sauce on the pork belly croquettes was slightly too overpowering for the sauce to croquette ratio.
With a limited menu there wasn’t a whole lot else to choose from.
Food did come out pretty quickly for how busy it looked.

We had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant two nights in a row. Wow! Food was fantastic, chef knows how to create real flavour bombs and the use of native ingredients was fantastic. Both nights were very impressive and loved the friendly unpretentious service, including comfy chairs to sit back and relax whilst enjoying the view over the bay. Highly recommended!!
