Stopped at this restaurant on the way to Bishop and was pleasantly surprised. The food was authentic Mexican and tasted just like home in San Diego.
My wife had a beef taco and tamale and for a 5 foot two woman she ate it all 🙂
I had a beef taco and Tostado with rice and beans, tasted great and filled me up.
We had chips, salsa and guacamole. The chips and guac were amazing. The salsa wasn’t really that hot for me, but then again could be for someone else .
There’s plenty of parking off the main street. I took a picture of the front door because it’s around the front and it’s a little hard to find if you don’t know what to look. They have a full bar and two rooms for drinking and dining. They have a new patio, but are not allowed to serve alcoholic beverages outside as of yet, although they have applied.
Highly recommend this if you need Mexican food, fix food and service with a smile
Forgot to add we had two mango margaritas and as you can see from the pictures they were massive. 🙂

The restaurant is 2 for 2 for me with the margarita as well!….very authentic Mexican to me. My waiter Jose was a delight and accommodating. A lot more dishes to try over here!….lots of dishes than the regular “combo” gotta try the one’s that call to me. Keep up the good work.

2017 review: Server was attentive. Brought out chips and salsa almost immediately after we sat down. The salsa was yummy with a nice amount of spice. The taco combo plate was good. Jan2018 update: Downgraded from 4 stars to 3 stars. Visited the place a year later. A different type of service this time. Look a while for the server to take our order. Chips and salsa never came. Asked about the chip and finally someone said they are making a new batch, then another server came later to say they were all out. We order an appetizer instead to tie us over until the meal came. The meals came out first. The appetizer came out after one of the members of the party finished the meal already.

The food is usually better than most, but this last experience was slightly disappointing. Two sips was all I could manage of my margarita because it was mostly mixer. The waitress seemed distracted and the hostess, or maybe she was the owner, was also hurrying the patrons out of the establishment before dining hours were even close to being over. Idk. Maybe it was just an off day. Still, the atmosphere and food are the most authentic and best in town.

Great little hidden gem. I met my son there for lunch today. The waitress was friendly and the food was tasty. My son had shrimp Fajitas and I had a two taco plate. Great place.

Rarely am I disappointed with a Mexican restaurant in California. My wife ordered steak and I had a fajita, so it’s very hard to go wrong with either, as both always taste great. However, what stood out about Olvera’s was that the salsa was probably the best I have ever tasted (and I usually don’t even like salsa very much). This made the tortilla chips seem like part of the meal, rather than a way to kill time while the meal is cooking. Also, the beans and rice had a noticeably delicious flavor. I was quite happy that we picked this place.
If you go in the evening, though, don’t be surprised if it looks closed from outside; the interior is dimly lit.

This place was a pit stop from death valley national park. Their outdoor patio was nice with two TV’s to watch sports. Their staff was super nice and asked us many questions to make sure we were taken care of.
As for the food. It was kinda meh. I ordered the tecate tacos with carnitas, asada & chicken and all of them were dry. They didn’t have salsas outside of what the tortilla chips were. However I will say their complementary chips and salsa were good. Nice good spicy kick but not meant for tacos.

Went here as a recommendation from a friend. He suggested the chili Verde. It didn’t disappoint. The pork simply fell apart. The portions were large but not too much. I know this is silly but the salsa on the chips and salsa appetizer that they give you for free was really good. I would also recommend the horchata.
The service was quick and friendly. Glad I went to this place.
