Great drinks. Decent food. The tuna appetizer is the best part. I have tried the soft crab sandwich but did not like it. Steak was pretty good. Definitely a must tru when in town.

Beautiful spot on the Cape Fear in Southport. This rustic venue has a great menu, large portions, great service and ambience. We had someone with a good allergy and I have never been to a restaurant that put such care into ensuring the food was made to order with no cross contamination!!! Just one note … The full salad is very large..

Walked by here many times but never stopped in. Did today and very happy we did. Great setting on the water and delicious food. Grilled Ceasar salad, salmon with risotto and catch of the day swordfish. All good.

We enjoyed our lunch. I had the shrimp and grits. I enjoyed the dish. The portion was smaller than I expected. My friend had the fall harvest salad. She got the larger portion. The salad was very delicious, and so was our choice of white balsamic dressing. We enjoyed our seat in the covered, heated patio area. We had a great view of the water. Cathy was an excellent server, and she provided great service.

The food boasts outstanding flavor, with the ribeye skillfully cooked to perfection and the asparagus incredibly tender and tasty. The $5 house wine on Wednesdays offers excellent value, and the bread pudding is an irresistible dessert. The establishment maintains a clean environment, and the sunset view is breathtaking.

The waterfront views of the Cape Fear River are stunning—easily the highlight and why we chose Oliver’s for our family dinner.
Everything else was a major letdown for our party of 7. We waited over an hour for food (even after apps), despite the restaurant not being full. Multiple items we wanted were unavailable. Our youngest son (age 6) literally fell asleep at the table from the exhaustion of waiting.
When meals finally arrived: pastas we ordered came out wrong—spaghetti instead, with shredded and broken pieces scattered (again, visible in photo). Flavors were inconsistent: some dishes overly salty, others completely bland. No one in our group finished their plate.
Service compounded the frustration—our server slammed water glasses on the table when we politely asked about delays. The bill came to over $250 (including tip), and when we shared feedback with the manager post-payment, she brushed it off saying we “should’ve complained before paying”—no apology or resolution.
Family vacations are about making memories, not frustration. This evening drained us instead. Southport has plenty of better waterfront options—we’ll choose those next time

Me and my 4 friends came for dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely amazing. The place we were going to go to was packed so we came here and were quickly sat at a beautiful table outside. The atmosphere, service, and food was incredible. Special thank you to Gina for making sure everything was perfect for us the service was 10/10. We will definitely be back! 🙂

This was our first time in Southport and saw lots of reviews for Oliver’s. We were seating outside next to the water and the sunset view was amazing! The food was great and our server Gina was also great! She was so nice and our kids enjoyed talking to her and telling her all about their visit to the aquarium. We will definitely be back!
