At our table, we had the pleasure of being served by Desmond. Desmond was very accommodating and polite, and he genuinely seemed eager to serve. When there was a miscommunication regarding bringing our table soup – we had spoke to a busser about getting more soup and the information relayed was to bring us a full table of what we ordered previously instead of allowing us to choose a different variety – he was extremely gracious about bringing everything back and taking the orders of what we wanted for the second round. When we were ready to pay and there was a computer back up, he apologized for the wait. As a server, he was very attentive and really tried to go above and beyond – you’re in good hands if you get him at your table.
As for the food, the food was honestly mid. It’s definitely not anything you’d get at a mom & pops place, but for the price and for endless soup/salad and breadsticks with every entree, you really can’t go wrong here. It’s a really budget friendly meal place and perfect for ensuring hungry teenagers are well fed.
The restaurant was clean and well maintained and at the end of the meal, you’ll end off with a sweet note thanks to an Andes Mint (thank you Desmond for the extra chocolates, btw!) Overall, it’s a great option if you need a good meal in the Folsom area.
I also asked to swap my soup for French fries, and the waiter said OK. However, when the check came, we saw that he hadn’t made the substitution and ended up charging us for both the fries and the soup, even though we never got the soup. It felt unfair, and overall, the experience was frustrating. Definitely not what I expected from Olive Garden.
On the positive side, parking was easy, and the restaurant is OK for kids.
For the record: under the ADA, businesses are allowed to ask TWO questions. Not demand paperwork. Not ask for proof. Not question someone’s disability. Not create a public spectacle.
Yet that’s exactly what happened.
Service animals are medical equipment. Harassing a handler is not just rude — it’s discriminatory. The stress and humiliation from this interaction was so intense it nearly triggered a medical relapse. That’s the real-world impact of staff who are not properly trained.
If Olive Garden claims to value hospitality and inclusivity, then train your employees accordingly. Disabled customers are not second-class citizens, and we are not required to justify our existence to dine in your restaurant.
My faves are the spaghetti and meatballs, and the chicken parmigiana. I usually order the lunch special to go. The to go salad is packed in a huge container. They also pack two breadsticks. The spaghetti and meatballs plate comes with two nice sized meatballs. The chicken parmigiana is breaded with a nice crisp crust with a moist, tender filet. They have a lunch soup and salad option for $11.49. There are four soups to choose from: minestrone, pasta fagioli, zuppa toscano, and chicken and gnocchi. Lunch prices average $13.49. The lunch specials are not available on the weekends, only weekdays.
I also enjoy the lively, upbeat Italian theme music they play. Think Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin… 1940-50 genre of music.
