Update; first off they only accept cash. I returned a week later. The grumpy lady was in a good mood tonight, which made all the difference. In my humble opinion this is by far the best Chinese food in the area. I’m glad that I found this place and it’s close to my house. I recommend highly that you come here and try their food. You won’t be disappointed.
I came here for two reasons. First of all I used to eat at their Bridgton location. They had a lunch buffet many many moons ago for $5.95. It was the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten. The second reason is to not only compare places but to review this restaurant. I walked in on a Friday around 2pm. They were somewhat busy. There was 2 cashiers, a very cheerful, polite, and young Chinese girl who greeted me very enthusiastic. The second one was an older Chinese lady that was rude as hell. Luck of the draw, unfortunately had me ordering from her. This probably would have been a 4 maybe even 5 star review if it wasn’t for her straight up hating on me for no reason. I ordered the small special lo mein and the beef and broccoli lunch special which cost $25. She came up with this figure after numerous times adding both dishes up on a calculator, then scratching the numbers out, then finally said $25. With the specials for $3.95 extra you can make the dish a combo. I asked her what was the combo for $3.95? She replied, “can’t you read!” I looked over the menu again above the cashiers and for the life of me couldn’t find no where on the board explaining the combo. Finally, she rattled off something that I barely understood. I think she said white rice, soup and a drink, but I’m not positive about that. Anyway, the food was good the customer service was beyond terrible. Very very rude! I’ll probably go back and try it again. Hopefully, I’ll get the cheerful young Chinese girl and not the old Chinese hater.

First time customer. The wait time was pretty minimal even though there were several others dining inside and getting to go food. The young lady who cashed me out was very friendly and nice. The food was pretty good as well. I used to frequent another spot but I think this will be my go to. I did have an issue with my order that I only became aware of the next day but I called in and they honestly took care of me and were really kind about it. That alone will definitely have me returning but again the food and service are good. It is cash only and there is an ATM inside.

Have been going there over 45 years. Haven’t been in about a year. Went there Friday after Thanksgiving, and ordered the stir fried chicken. It looked good, but the rice had little taste, nothing in, no onion, no chicken and dry. The breaded chicken was soggy, had 1 piece of onion and 1 piece of green pepper, maybe 3 pieces of carrot. I was up most of the night throwing up violently. Had to be food poisioning, never felt so bad. I will not be going back.

Drove 35 minutes for some good city rice..this was NOT the place! Ordered for 5 people and not one order was correct. Egg fu young has gravy but not from here…the fried rice was dry, not mixed as most parts were white clumps ….I asked for onions, green onions and bean Sprouts no egg. I got plain rice.
St Paul was terrible
Will NEVER return

The food was okay. Not my favorite kind of “Chinese” food. The workers were very nice, but the owner was very very rude. I was talking with one working who was checking me out, asking her if they stay busy and what not, just small talk. Then the owner came, and the worker got quiet and so did the other workers, like they were scared of her. Anyways, the owner told me “Just pay for your food, and leave!!” She was not nice. Mind you, the place was not busy AT ALL. And also, this was my first time trying it!! Overall I will not be giving this establishment any more of my money, or time. And you guys shouldn’t either. I will be staying with the people across the street at Nee China. Better prices, very very friendly, and they seem family owned.

Old St Louis Chop Suey is so good! The owner is super friendly and the food tastes so good! They are cash only but they have an ATM in the restaurant or you can order online. Their main focus is Chinese food but they do have a small Vietnamese menu. You won’t regret trying this place!

I’ve never been here before, but I did check the website before going which literally shows a menu and hours lolbvs…nowhere on there does it say CASH ONLY! So once I got to the counter and ordered a 1/2 order of special egg foo young(no pork,Xtra onion) and gravy on the side, at the point I pulled my debit card out the lady said, “its cash only and there’s an atm right over there”! So what I thought was gonna be a simple transaction, turned into me paying more than what I planned bc I was forced to use the atm (which charges $2.50 and only $20 increments and didn’t have receipt paper)-my food was $10.46 and after the transaction, I was verbally given number 86! As I waited for my food, a man walked in and up to the counter:
Him- umm did you call my number while I was outside
Her- what was your number
Him-i can’t remember what you said it was(and he had to tell the order instead)
*The number thing is pointless if you don’t have physical ones, especially if someone has a bad memory…Anyway, I’ll be back for the food and prepared w/cash in hand bc the food was delicious

We ordered general tso’s chicken, fried shrimp, crab rangoon, and the veggie egg rolls through DoorDash. They had the order ready quickly. The general tso’s chicken was pretty good. It had mushrooms, carrots, and bamboo shoots in it, which I liked, but not everyone would. Normally it has broccoli, so that would have been a nice addition. It came with half the amount of rice most takeout restaurants send with that entree. The crab rangoon had a good balance of sweetness, but were a little under filled. The veggie egg rolls were tasty. They come in an order of four and each one is about 2 inches long. The fried shrimp wasn’t like anything I’ve seen before. They were coated in a thick layer of breading that was almost like a savory donut. Kind of tasted like a hush puppy. I’d say it was 1/3 shrimp, 2/3 breading. I’m not picky, so I thought it still tasted good, but it’s not what you expect when you order fried shrimp. Overall satisfied. It filled our late night craving. I’d give it 3.5 stars.

My family had been going here probably since before i was born. My uncle used to take me and my sister to get take out. Then, i would have given this place a 5 star review. A few years after he passed i really was craving this place because i hadn’t eaten there in years. This was when they first got new management. We ordered the food went home to eat and all of us in my household was throwing up after about an hour. This place gave me food poisoning for the first time ever in my life and i’ve never been more disappointed. It’s been 4 years since we’ve been there and i’m writing this now because i seriously don’t know how this place is still open.
