The tri-tip sandwich with french fries is definitely the ticket here.
This place is huge and inviting and has plenty of seating. If you’re a beer drinker there are more than 20 different beers on tap.
Definitely an awesome place to bring a large group of friends and there are plenty of TVs for the game.

Excellent tri tip sandwiches. Excellent salsa. Great fries, pinto beans, corn pie. Clean bathrooms. Welcomes dogs on the patio. Highly recommend this business.

genuinely one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life. The food is overpriced and meats did not come out tender and was incredibly dry. I considered if this was a one off incident but my friends had gotten various meats and none of us enjoyed it nor did it even look appetitizing, so thats a rather large sample to have a varition in quality, yet none of it landed for us. The food was rather cold as well, hinting it may have been sitting out. if you would like to burn $20+ and chew on some rubber, this is the place to go!

We stopped by for an early dinner after my husband’s Dr appointment. We had never eaten here before.
We ordered 2 tri tip sandwiches and a half a rack of ribs.
The husband and our friend said the tri tip sandwiches were excellent.
The ribs I ordered were dry, overcooked and salty. They were not edible.
Since we took our order to go and live in Nipomo, it wasn’t possible to take the ribs back.
We were they only people in the restaurant and the service was very slow.
I sent a message to Old SLO BBQ by way of their website 4 days ago and they didn’t respond.
Guess we won’t be going back.

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to leave a review for this amazing restaurant. It was the first place I tried when I first moved to SLO, and it was the last I had before moving away. Now, it’s become a go to spot whenever I’m in town. Highly recommend. Also, if you don’t know what to get – can’t go wrong with the candied bacon tri tip sliders (it’s become a regular order).

Tried this place a year ago, dissappointed. So tonight at 5 pm I was excited to give it another go.
Ordered Tri Tip Sandwhich and fries and order came up quick. There was only one other person dinning there. Maybe I missed the rush as there were tables to clean and the sauce bar, beer bar and garbage needed a good wipe down and clean up. Guess I’m picky, but I like my fries with a crispy crunch, mine were not but they were soft, almost limp and cold. Aw shucks! Their specialty Tri Tip Bun was grilled but did not have that toated garlic cruch and meat was over cooked. What happened? So overall dissappointed. Come on…

Expensive for what you get and the food is simply ok. It’s not bad, but it’s also nothing special. Although the BBQ sauce was quite good. Almost anyone can make this quality of food at home. I see no reason to go back.

CATERING REVIEW: My wife and I decided to get married in San Luis Obispo, and we were looking for places to cater our wedding. Old SLO BBQ came highly recommended from multiple sources, and so we decided to inquire with them. Kevin quickly got back to us and we were able to set up a meeting during our next visit to SLO to see our venue. Meeting with Kevin was a great experience. He was very professional, friendly, and helpful with figuring out what we needed as far as portions go. The best part of the meeting was getting to taste all of their delicious food! I absolutely love Santa Maria style BBQ and this place absolutely hits the mark and we were ready to sign the dotted lines. We especially enjoyed one of their BBQ sauces, and Kevin gave us a tub of it to take home! Kevin was very clear throughout the entire process with the details and coordinating timing of food preparation for the wedding day, and communication with him was never a problem. On the day of the wedding, the Old SLO staff was very friendly and professional. The appetizers were a big hit, and the dinner was hot, delicious, and enjoyed by everyone. We definitely appreciated all of the veggie options for our vegetarian guests. Kevin also made sure that my wife and I had plates prepared for us, specifically to our liking, as we sat for dinner. They also provided bussing and non alcoholic beverage services, which was awesome! We really appreciate all the hard work and efforts that Kevin and his catering staff at Old SLO BBQ put in to help make our wedding a truly unforgettable experience, and we can’t thank them enough! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The saltiest BBQ I’ve ever had. I had the tri-tip plate with pinto beans and quinoa salad. The tri-tip was slightly warm with the sauce served on the side. Everything on the plate has a noticeable salty taste. The meat did not taste like it had been smoked because it was salty. They have a wall of self pour tap beer. Maybe that’s why they add so much salt to the dishes. Paid around $21 for the meal.

WEDDING CATERING REVIEW: I could write all day long about how delicious Old SLO’s food is and how many compliments we received about the meal from our guests, but what made them the perfect wedding caterer was their ability to quickly adapt when weather became unpredictable. Kevin and his team worked around on again/off again rain showers, wind, and changes in the game plan without a hitch. As the bride, I knew we would be in good hands but we truly had a perfect experience and were so blown away by this team’s professionalism!!
They were also incredibly helpful with clean up and racking up our rental dishes alongside our coordinator. If you’re looking for incredible food your guests will love and an experienced, well-oiled machine of a team, these are your people!!
