My husband and I are happy we stumbled upon this place as we love tostones and don’t have a spot close by to get them. Everything we tasted here was amazing and we most def will be back! When we were first sat we were each given a tasting size plantain soup topped with shredded chz which was surprisingly so delish. We ordered mixed drinks and found them to be tasty and not lacking in alcohol (reccomend Take Me Away & Mango Marg). We tried the small app sampler and found every item to be unique and tasty (2 large tostones, 2 yucca fries, 2 corn fritter sticks, 2 mini chicken empanadas, 2 mini beef empanadas, 2 pieces fried pork chunks, 2 pieces fried chicken chunks & 2 dipping sauces). We also got the choriqueso which was bomb (chips were a bit stale but no biggie). We split the roasted pork mofongo were so impressed by the flavors and presentation. We added on sweet plantains (nice and caramalized) and arroz con gandules (flavorful rice and peas which is actually the Puerto Rican national dish) both were amazing. Yes we got a lot of food but excited to have such tasty leftovers for the week! Highly recommend this spot as our waitress was kind and patient as we took our time with thier extensive menu and you can tell food is quality and prepared with love!!

Happened to find this place after heading home from Raleigh, and I am so happy we went!! First, they have a Passoa beverage on their menu!!! ( if you know you know) and it was delicious! They give you a small soup of plantain starter which was interesting. We tried it, but were not fans. The pernil and chicken were delicious, arroz con gandules like my grandmother made it, and the portions were great!! Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the shrimp a la criolla. The cilantro rice seemed out of place and the salsa criolla was really watery. However, I plan to visit again and try something else!

Service was good and the restaurant is decorated authentically. I especially loved the painted mural. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will be back to visit!!

First time going to Old San Juan and had a pleasant experience. The complimentary plantain soup was delicious. Everyone in our party seemed to enjoy their food and the atmosphere.
FYI they validate for parking inside the restaurant.

If you are in the area this is a must have. The best Puerto Rican food I’ve had since moving to NC! The owner and staff are great and the food was excellent.
I had the Pernil & Arroz con gandules, shared a sampler which was great.

I will be back

This was not a good dining experience. The mufongo was dry and bland. The pork overcooked. The fried sampler was greasy and flavorless. The only thing the didn’t disappoint completely was the burrito.

Our waiter was great and so accommodating. Food was good and authentic. The music was nice!!! The food was awesome! This was my first time trying mufungo with shrimp and garlic sauce…delicious! I also ordered sweet plantains, cilantro rice w/ red beans, yuca fritter. I will definitely be going back.

Food is great. When it’s slow, server tends to disappear though.
Food is great. In photos is
A double order of pork skewers
One emanada (ground beef)
Cuban sandwich (rice and black beans instead of fries)
Kids quesadilla (rice and black beans instead of fries)

The skewers remind me of the Hispanic street vendors.
The Cuban sandwich is great but sometimes heavy on the mustard.

This place is a hidden gem on top of sushi republic.

Give it a try sometime

Got the tropical nachos with chicken, this dish has strong flavors and lots of food. The restaurant is clean and the staff is nice, I like the neat bar tables they had in there and some of the decorations. The menu is pretty big with it probably all being worth a try. Most of the staff speaks Spanish, with some newly here from Puerto Rico.

Service Good, Ordered Mofongo with Chirrasco (Skirt Steak). And Pernil al Plato. (Pierto Rican rosted pork with rice and Pigeon peas) Place was nice a bit gloomy for my taste. However The food is excellent. If you want to try Puerto Rican food. This is the place to go.

My husband and I decided to go on a date night and try out Old San Juan Bar & Grill. We had heard great things about this establishment and wanted to try it out ourselves. My husband is from Puerto Rico and having a restaurant not too far from home is a treat! The food tasted great, honestly even better than the island itself! They serve you really good too! I really didn’t want to say this but when we got home we had an interesting turn of events, my husband and I got very sick and had to call off work. We felt horrible!!
