It was pretty good. Did NOT realize it’s a cash only place though. The chicken fried steak was super thinly cut but other than that the food was good. The meatloaf was said to be really good. And the waitresses were great & the place absolutely packed when we got there. I do recommend it but bring cash, there’s an ATM but of course it charges you.

First time there and I loved it! I told my Aunts yall have been coming since yall were young many moons ago and just now brought me here?! All my life going to Temple to visit family and no one told me… ! As soon I walked up to the place I heard oldies and I knew oh this gonna be good! The food was very good, the staff and service was good too and it has that good ole country home cooked meals atmosphere. Plus they played oldies and other good old school jams…thank God. Cuz not many places play oldies no more. I definitely will be seeing more road trips to Temple, I already see my family there and now I can enjoy a good place to relax too.

This place was great! The food was good. Their mashed potatoes and rolls were very good. I was a bit disappointed with the green beans. It seemed like they were warmed up canned green beans. We had the chicken fried steak and meat loaf were delicious. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We would go back.

I saw the great reviews of Old Jody’s Restaurant in Temple and knew that we had to try it. We were in the area on a Thursday and stopped for lunch around 12:30 pm. I liked the vibe when we pulled up and walked inside. Nothing fancy, but it has the feeling of being a well-established restaurant that is a great place to get together with family and friends to have a meal together. It was busy when we got there, but there were tables available. It’s a seat-yourself type of place. Some tables are longer and can be shared with other small groups and there are a few smaller individual tables for up to 4 people. This place only accepts cash or checks, but there is an ATM at the front door.

Bottom line up front, Jody’s was a mixed bag for us. We got fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and it was a generous portion. The mushrooms were lightly breaded and tasted great with the ranch dressing. The server brought us a plastic squeeze bottle of ranch dressing, as well as one of thousand island dressing for the salad my wife got with her meal. I got a double meat cheeseburger. It doesn’t come with a side, but it was a big burger and reasonably priced. This was a great cheeseburger, and I would get it again. So far, so good…. try the fried mushrooms and get the burger! My wife got the chicken fried steak with a side of French fries for us to share. I liked the fries more than my wife, but overall good fries and enough for both of us to share. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak was disappointing. You can judge for yourself from the photos. It was under seasoned with little to no breading in places. From other reviews and photos, I don’t think this is normal, so I’m not sure what happened with our order. After seasoning with salt and pepper, my wife ate some of it and it was okay, but she wouldn’t get it again.

Overall, I would recommend that you give Old Jody’s a try for yourself. We will go back again but probably won’t get the chicken fried steak. The menu has a lot of interesting options, like frog legs, fried gator, and catfish. The super friendly servers and hometown vibe with good food options are reasons enough to stop by.

Upon entering had our name added to the next available table list. Was told about 20 minutes, but seated in 10. Shared a table with others, no big deal. Staff hustled the entire time we were there. Had the 10oz ribeye, one medium rare, one medium well. Both were closer to medium rare. Plates came with 2 sides, each ordered a salad and potato, both plates also had fresh warm rolls. Added cheese curds which were very good.

New to temple!!! FAIR WARNINING: This place is cash only

Was looking to try something iconic for Temple! I came across Jody’s and thought to try it out! When My friend and I first arrived, we loved the atmosphere. We were greeted immediately and were told we can sit anywhere. We picked a table in a corner to eat comfortably.

I ordered the chicken fried steak with onion rings and fries. My friend ordered a Jody’s burger, which was a little disappointing that it does not come with any sides. However the burger was a pretty good price.

I went to use the condiments on the table which I thought was (ketchup & mustard) but the yellow bottle ended up being melted butter (LUCKILY I didn’t put it on my food, but in a separate dish!)

The chicken fried steak was very bland. It had no crisp to it and I could not taste any seasoning. The fries also seemed very bland. I was left drenching my food in ketchup and white gravy to give it some flavor.

However the burger was quite nice and fulfilling. We were able to also sample their peanut butter candy, which was delicious.

When we went to pay, we were told cash and check only. I was a little thrown off, but they quickly reassured that there was an ATM outside the door. I didn’t want to be charged by the ATM, so my friend went to pull cash from his car. We paid and left.

A few hours later, we began to feel sick and nauseous. We didn’t eat anything for the day except at Jody’s. Our stomachs began to ache. Anything could have caused this, but we strongly believe the food was not being cooked in fresh oil or was not handled sanitarily.

Overall we really enjoyed the service and the atmosphere and wanted to go back in the future. However after becoming sick a few hours after, we decided not to.

Lots of parking out back. Diner atmosphere with colorful characters, so we ate in. Wife had XL Chicken Fried Steak, you know, for leftovers! My 1/2 order of Chef Salad was ample and bottomless tray of salad crackers kept me busy.
This was our 4th visit and I must say, “Jody’s is consistent!”

This was our first time here and we won’t be back. My husband tried the Meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes, TERRIBLE. THE mashed potatoes are out of a box bc they’re definitely not home made or real, the Meatloaf was too mushy and who does ketchup on Meatloaf. and the green beans are out of a can. DISGUSTING. The Cheese Burger had 2 different buns and it was smaller than the buns , practically No Meat and then it’s FROZEN PATTIES. Then they Don’t accept CC only cash and Checks. Ridiculous. Not worth going to or wasting time unless you want CAFETERIA FOOD. Won’t be back.
