Reviews
Bottom line up front, Jody’s was a mixed bag for us. We got fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and it was a generous portion. The mushrooms were lightly breaded and tasted great with the ranch dressing. The server brought us a plastic squeeze bottle of ranch dressing, as well as one of thousand island dressing for the salad my wife got with her meal. I got a double meat cheeseburger. It doesn’t come with a side, but it was a big burger and reasonably priced. This was a great cheeseburger, and I would get it again. So far, so good…. try the fried mushrooms and get the burger! My wife got the chicken fried steak with a side of French fries for us to share. I liked the fries more than my wife, but overall good fries and enough for both of us to share. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak was disappointing. You can judge for yourself from the photos. It was under seasoned with little to no breading in places. From other reviews and photos, I don’t think this is normal, so I’m not sure what happened with our order. After seasoning with salt and pepper, my wife ate some of it and it was okay, but she wouldn’t get it again.
Overall, I would recommend that you give Old Jody’s a try for yourself. We will go back again but probably won’t get the chicken fried steak. The menu has a lot of interesting options, like frog legs, fried gator, and catfish. The super friendly servers and hometown vibe with good food options are reasons enough to stop by.
Was looking to try something iconic for Temple! I came across Jody’s and thought to try it out! When My friend and I first arrived, we loved the atmosphere. We were greeted immediately and were told we can sit anywhere. We picked a table in a corner to eat comfortably.
I ordered the chicken fried steak with onion rings and fries. My friend ordered a Jody’s burger, which was a little disappointing that it does not come with any sides. However the burger was a pretty good price.
I went to use the condiments on the table which I thought was (ketchup & mustard) but the yellow bottle ended up being melted butter (LUCKILY I didn’t put it on my food, but in a separate dish!)
The chicken fried steak was very bland. It had no crisp to it and I could not taste any seasoning. The fries also seemed very bland. I was left drenching my food in ketchup and white gravy to give it some flavor.
However the burger was quite nice and fulfilling. We were able to also sample their peanut butter candy, which was delicious.
When we went to pay, we were told cash and check only. I was a little thrown off, but they quickly reassured that there was an ATM outside the door. I didn’t want to be charged by the ATM, so my friend went to pull cash from his car. We paid and left.
A few hours later, we began to feel sick and nauseous. We didn’t eat anything for the day except at Jody’s. Our stomachs began to ache. Anything could have caused this, but we strongly believe the food was not being cooked in fresh oil or was not handled sanitarily.
Overall we really enjoyed the service and the atmosphere and wanted to go back in the future. However after becoming sick a few hours after, we decided not to.
This was our 4th visit and I must say, “Jody’s is consistent!”
