Reviews
The salad we had was absolutely amazing. Dena recommended it and she said it had just been put back on the menu and that its a favorite of the people there. So I was interested after she said that. I think it was called Harvest Walnut salad? Or something like that. But when I read the description first, I was not interested. It didnt seem like a combination of ingredients that would taste good to me at least. Walnuts, pomegranate, goat cheese, some kind of vinaigrette dressing. But she was pretty high on it so my wife and I ordered it. It was fantastic. Such a burst of delicious flavor. We both looked at each other and said if this is any indication of the rest of the food, then we are in for the meal of our lives. It was not. We received our main course shortly after and the presentation was beautiful. We were both very excited. She had the prime ribeye with seared shrimp, and I had the 8oz filet with a lobster tail added.
I ordered my steak medium rare, she ordered her steak medium. Hers appeared to be more medium rare than mine but mine was still medium rare. So here’s the thing… these steaks are terribly overpriced for the quality. I was expecting the steak to melt. To slice through it like butter. This was not the case. Both of our steaks were kinda hard to cut. Mine was a bit less difficult. The flavor was good. They weren’t bad steaks. But they are NOT worth 72 dollars for the ribeye and 62 dollars for the filet. My filet was quite dry actually. I was shocked. We both were shocked. This was the one nice dinner we had on our short time at the resort and we had a babysitter so it was our nice night out by ourselves and a date night that we haven’t had in a long time. My wife wanted to treat us to an amazing dinner and we read reviews of old hickory and they were mostly good. The food was a let down. It shouldve been priced about as much as a Texas roadhouse or longhorn steakhouse or even maybe Outback steakhouse. 291 dollars for the final bill and the only thing we thoroughly enjoyed, as far as the food, was the salad.
Now I may be a little biased because I cook steak regularly and I am quite good at it. I cooked a steak more than a week before this dinner that was easily the best steak I’ve ever made and definitely one of the best I’ve ever tried period. So my expectations were kind of high. But for the price, I dont think they were too high. We were disappointed. Not because of the food in general, but because of the price of that food. We thought about getting dessert but decided against it because the bill was already going to be outrageous. And it was. Dena should be given a raise and so should Aquina though. We did not want to spoil the service by telling them we were not happy with the quality of our steaks. They did amazing. So thank you to them. The last picture is a picture of the steak I made for reference.
Katie made our 10-year anniversary truly unforgettable. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. She took the time to walk us through the menu, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made everything feel special without ever being overbearing.
Her energy was so sweet and welcoming, and you could tell she truly cares about creating a great experience for her guests. She struck the perfect balance of being informative and personable, which made our evening feel relaxed and celebratory.
Because of Katie, our night wasn’t just dinner — it was a memory. We’re so grateful for her and will absolutely be back!
By the way, my father in law is gluten free and loved the options he had on the menu to eat gluten free. He also said it was the best gluten free bread rolls he ever had.
