Social Profile:

The family run Old Hickory House restaurants have been an Atlanta institution for more than 60 years with 4 family members operating their stores in Atlanta before closing and retiring. The old Forrest Park location was the one who had a scene in the movie “Smokey & The Bandit” filmed in 1977. This scene at the Old Hickory House had Jackie Gleason and Burt Reynolds in it. Gleason ordered a Diablo sandwich which we now serve at our location in Tucker, Georgia. Elvis Presley was another celebrity among other’s who frequented the Old Hickory House’s in the Atlanta area. The Tucker location that opened in 1974 is the only Old Hickory House standing. We plan to be serving our customers for another 60 years.

Country-style American fare, barbecued meats & more served in a down-home diner with a vintage vibe.

This place is a little hidden due to all the new construction and tall building in the area. So I stopped here before for dinner (Togo) the service was quick and the food hot. But it is not the most flavor. Add some salt and pepper to the sides and it’s decent. The meat could use some seasoning also but to each its own, u go for meat u get meat. The sauce is ok, not to my liking. So I went for breakfast and I enjoyed it so much better. The prices are very reasonable and them biscuits are so warm fluffy and big. They are so good. I had country fried chicken and gravy with grits. Grits a little runny but not too bad. The country fried steak was also good per my guest. The smell of smoked bbq fills the air in this area and it’s welcoming. Plenty of free parking in parking lot. The atmosphere is just as its name, old country style. Don’t expect to much. Just decent food, friendly staff and country vibes. I’ll return for breakfast

Great place to eat! Neat atmosphere. Service was amazing. Appetizers and sides were all really good, and we ordered several! As for the meats, the ribs were super good and sweet, some of the brisket was not so great and really tough.. but the burnt ends part was really good. The pork was dry and unimpressive. I didn’t see an option for pulled pork, which I would have ordered. I didn’t care for the ‘bbq sauce’ which was unsweet and just tasted like tomatoes.

While I’ve only ate breakfast there, my experience was great. If you want to take a trip down memory lane or relive the good ole days with some good food then Old Hickory House is the place. Located in the Tucker area the Old Hickory House has not changed the decor on the inside. This is not a bad thing because when I walked in it took me back to the 80’s with their movie photos hanging on the walls. This restaurant has been in business since I was in high school and I graduated in 1990! So they must be doing something right!! While they are known for their BBQ and Brunswick Stew, I’m here to talk about their delicious breakfast. Great taste and big portions. Regular pancakes the size of your plate and huge fluffy biscuits just like grandma use to bake. Take my advice and go visit Old Hickory House off Lavista Rd for some good breakfast.

This location is not to be missed. The service is always friendly and happy to help. While I’ve had their BBQ chopped pork (which is FANTASTIC) this time I had breakfast which is equally delicious. The grits are the perfect consistency. I asked for the scrambled eggs to be hard scrambled because I don’t enjoy a runny yolk and they were cooked as requested. I requested for the bacon to be extra crispy but not burn. Again. As ordered. You don’t get that level of service everywhere. I ordered a biscuit instead of toast and the biscuit was HUGE. They had plenty of jelly and apple butter on the table which I enjoyed on my biscuit. A nice size parking lot that gets full sometimes, but has enough available parking. Check this place out. You won’t regret it.

Our truck got broken into and the employees told us “yeah this keeps happening, it happened last week too!” As if this is just a normal part of their business. No cameras in the parking lot.The food also wasn’t very good plus they made us pay full price

I ordered the country steak with grits, eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit. All my food was delicious except that country steak. It tasted old and frozen. This was my first time coming here and I believe I’ll come again but I definitely will not order that country steak! Also our waitress was fairly new but she was amazing and very attentive. Thanks Tia!

Where we were seated in a booth there was too many dead flies to count on the inside of the window ledge. It was extremely gross. But the service and food was good. Possibly they had sprayed the night before and forgot to clean that area.
