Absolutely Outstanding Filipino Comfort Food at OKO Austin!

From the moment you walk in, OKO Austin hits you with warm hospitality and the rich aroma of authentic Filipino cooking. Every dish feels like it was made with love — bold, flavorful, and deeply satisfying.

The lechon is pure perfection — crispy golden skin with juicy, melt-in-your-mouth meat that captures everything I love about traditional Filipino food. The pancit is a must-try too: fresh noodles with the perfect balance of veggies and savory goodness in every bite. And don’t even get me started on the chicken wings — sweet and addictively crispy!

You can taste the heart of the Philippines in every plate. The portions are generous, the presentation is on point, and the staff makes you feel right at home. OKO Austin is easily one of the best spots in the city for authentic Filipino flavors — 10/10 experience every single time!

Tried OKO Austin for dinner and it was good overall. The place feels more like a nicer night-out spot, and the prices match that. We ordered a few dishes to share and most of them hit—good flavors, nice presentation, and everything came out hot. Service was friendly, but it got a little slow once the place filled up. I’d come back when I want Filipino food in a more upscale setting.

OKO is bold, charismatic, and every bite is full of flavored and purposeful cooking. From the moment we arrived we were greeted and seated immediately and our waitress moved quickly. The setting is intimate and cozy giving a homey feel. We ordered a few items and the food was broken up into segments. Here’s what we ate:

Lumpia – perfectly crisped and salty outside. The inner pork filling tastes savory and delicious although the texture is a bit strange, almost hotdog like
Pancit – delicious. The vegetables are cooked to perfection and the sauce is bold and savory allowing the noodles to soak it up
Garlic rice – light and flavorful. Garlic rice is so simple of an idea but the execution here is spot on
Baboy – the pork skewers are otherworldly. Flavored to perfection with the slightest char. The meat is juicy but not tough, the best item we had all night
Halo halo – a towering desert with flan, ube ice cream, and the other usual toppings. It is so hard to find halo halo in Austin and not only do they have it, they pulled it off to perfection

From the food to the impeccable service, OKO stands out amongst not only the best restaurants in the area but of all Asian restaurants in the city. If you come to Austin and don’t stop by you are doing yourself a disservice. This is easily a 5 star restaurant and we hope to see it with some Michelin recognition soon.

Absolutely loved Oko in Austin! This Filipino restaurant was so delicious — every dish we tried was amazing! The cozy ambience made it the perfect spot for catching up with friends or even a date. The music was such a vibe, and the drinks were delicious and well-crafted.

A special shoutout to our bartender Ozzy — he was the only one behind the bar and still handled everything with calmness and grace. He was so friendly, attentive, and made everyone feel welcome!

The manager and staff were absolutely wonderful — so kind, friendly, and always greeting guests with genuine smiles. You could really feel the teamwork and care from everyone!

We’ll definitely be coming back. Thank you, Oko, for the amazing service and incredible food!

The food is not what you would expect from Filipino restaurant, if you’re a home grown Pinoy looking for traditional Filipino cooking. Oko delivers a special representation of Filipino food with respects to its flavors and ingredients used.

The menu — all the items are named in Filipino. However, they labeled the sides as “Ulam”. Ulam in Tagalog is the entree served with rice on the side. This got me wondering, maybe they didnt consult a Filipino on the wording in their menu?

The food we tried:

The Sinigang na Pakpak — I thought it would be chicken wings using sinigang powder as a dry rub. Instead the wings were cooked with a sauce that closely resembles adobo and is served with a lime that has the sinigang powder on top. The combination goes extremely well, very similar to Mang Inasal’s grilled chicken with sinigang soup on the side.

Talong ng Mangga Bagoong — what did they mean by “talong ng mangga”? Translated, it would mean Mangoe’s Eggplant lol. Name aside, this is tortang talong served with ensaladang mangga topped with chewy small shrimps as “bagoong”. I found this paired well with the wings with the sourness of the green mango, and the saltiness of the eggplant and fresh chopped tomatoes.

The environment was great, it was quiet and relaxing to just sit down for drinks while enjoying Filipino dishes. The crew seemed to know the menu very well (which is impressive considering that none of them that I saw personally were Filipino).

There are other things on their menu i’d love to try (even a secret menu item which usually changes from crisp pata to adobo. Yum) so i may find myself back here again.

Oko was marketed as elevated Filipino cuisine so I was extremely excited to try it. We ordered the baboy pork skewers, lumpia, sinigang chicken wings, oxtail kare kare, bistek, and halo halo.

The highlight was the bistec with garlic fried rice. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty. The other dishes were ok; I expected more bold flavors. The halo halo was plated beautifully but doesn’t give room to mix all the ingredients well. I also wasn’t a fan of the fruity cereal topping because it overpower everything.

This is a MUST-TRY spot when visiting Austin! My boyfriend and I found this place through social media and were excited to try Filipino food. We ordered the Singing Na Pak-Pak, their Ribs (from their secret menu), with a side of Roti and Kanin Rice, and their Chocolate Flan for dessert. We shared the meal which left us very satisfied and full! The flavors from each dish left us speechless and the service we received was phenomenal. I can’t wait to suggest this place to my friends and family!

Made reservations ahead of time for a party of 4, as we had friends driving in from Dallas excited to try this new restaurant.

Although our reservation was at 8pm, the host informed us we’d be seated within 15 minutes however we were not seated until 8:50pm. My party had to go out of their way to inquire about the status of our reservation throughout this time with very little update. This was very upsetting and highly unusual from my personal experience at various restaurants of this price point.

Regardless, we were eventually seated and our server’s hospitality and warmth made our night significantly better. We received a small appetizer on the house (chicken skin – it was delicious!), and I found all the dishes we ordered were amazing. The oxtail was my absolute favorite.

Even though most dishes are meant to share, they are very small which is important to consider if you plan to eat family style. I don’t eat a lot, but I’d feel comfortable ordering for just myself if I were to come here solo (which I might just to have that oxtail again!)

We were really excited to try OKO, but the experience was disappointing.

Standard seating booking still placed us in the last corner on a covered patio that was noticeably cold sitting against stone walls with no heat. Service was slow and inattentive. The waiter seemed to be covering far too many tables and spent most of the time prioritizing bussing tables and not checking in. Prosecco took about 15 minutes to arrive and was lukewarm. Upon finally getting the server, they admitted they didn’t think it was cold when he opened it. The “fix” was to put the bottle in a water pitcher with ice as they could not provide an alternative.

Skewers for starters took 45 minutes, and we had to flag someone down after that just to place our main order and get water. No apologies, no check-ins. By dessert, we were the only table left, and the check was literally dropped on the table with no friendly words.

We enjoyed a few dishes, but the service and overall experience were not up to standard for a $200+ meal. Total lack of awareness and showed no interest in watching out for guests experience. Definitely not a place we’d revisit and cautiously recommend.

Excited we got to try this new spot. Overall great menu and we tried almost all of it, maybe too much…Nice atmosphere with dim lighting. It was bustling the night we went and the service was exceptional. Most of the dishes had great flavor and just a couple were a little off and maybe had too much concentration of flavor. It was great to see the chef at the helm looking over all orders leaving the kitchen and was lucky enough to snag a quick Pic. We will definitely be going back in the near future.
