First time visiting, and this will definitely be our new spot. We had a table of 5. The service was outstanding from the moment we walked in. We were warmly welcomed, all of our questions were kindly answered, and the staff checked on us often. The food was absolutely delicious—we loved everything we tried. The spicy edamame was my favorite, and the presentation of the rolls was beautiful. Mine was vegetarian and was equally as thoughtful as the other rolls. Highly recommend!

I had a lovely dining experience that balanced great flavors, attentive service, and a touch of charm. I decided to eat at the bar since it was just myself dining.
The miso soup was warm and savory, a comforting start to the meal. I especially appreciated the seaweed salad, which was fresh and vibrant. The spicy edamame was just okay—mild in heat, but still a nice appetizer.
The standout for me was the Lava Roll—beautifully seared, giving it a subtle BBQ-like touch that set it apart from typical rolls. The spicy mayo (i ordered on the side) had a pleasant tangy kick that complemented it well. To drink, the Sapporo beer was served crisp and ice-cold, exactly how it should be.
A wonderful surprise was the Studio Ghibli soundtracks playing softly in the background—adding a nostalgic, cozy atmosphere.
The service was excellent. The staff were kind and professional throughout, and Michelle, our waitress, was especially courteous and attentive.
All of this for about $45 made for a very reasonable and enjoyable night out. I’ll definitely return.

Came in a little close to closing time still got amazing/friendly service. The sushi was so clean and fresh. I mostly like nigiri’s, and there’s is probably the best in Modesto. The oysters were so fresh. I’ve been back twice already since my first visit within a week. Extremely delicious sushi, restaurant is spotless/clean, and the service is great.

This is our new spot! The California roll, shrimp tempura and California tempura rolls were yummy, and the spicy tuna jalapeño poppers were the biggest hit! I wish I had placed 3 orders of those instead of 1!
We got our food through doordash and it was packaged nicely and the food was great! The jalapeño poppers were still very hot when we got them 30 minutes after ordering!! I can’t wait to come and dine in!

I can understand why this place has such long lines. The food is good, consistent, and extremely reasonably priced. My kid enjoyed searching for their secret menu online and was delighted to find they honored and knew every order. The employees also looked like they were happily working away inside. We’ll be back!

I’ve eaten at just about every sushi place that Modesto has to offer. Some are good. Some are bad. Okawa honestly is EXCELLENT. The prices are fair and the quality is super high. Rolls are tight and do not fall apart. Staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very well put together. My new favorite sushi place is right here.

This was our first time here and let me tell you, this place has met and exceeded my standards for incredible Japanese food I usually have to travel far from the central valley in order to get delicious, fresh quality food and this place nailed it. Great staff even though you can tell they were limited on staff but they rocked. We got two appetizers edamame and mixed tempura both were really good and quality ingredients 11/10. For our entree we got Teriyaki chicken and the mixed volcano grill with chicken and shrimp and everything was divine, flavors were on point chicken was moist and well cooked 11/10 for sure. We got the crunchy munchy roll and the shrimp tempura roll and both were fresh and delicious 11/10 pleasant surprise as we had to travel from Turlock to get some great Japanese food. Great atmosphere and great staff. Highly recommend coming here over other places in Modesto.

Delicious food and excellent service! Great new sushi spot in Modesto. We had their Japanese Nachos, Crunchy Munchy roll, and Laguna Beach roll. All were delicious with a nice portion of fish. Their wafer ice cream desert was delightful, too!

Best Sushi in all Modesto. No matter what you order here, be sure to expect the best. Flavor, you will never complain, customer service is at its best, food presentation is very pleasing, and the atmosphere is very inviting and welcoming. To be honest, don’t waste your time at other sushi restaurants and (that’s just my personal opinion), but I guarantee you that once you have tried this restaurant you will never go back and you will thank me later.

I’ll start out by saying that I love the decor. It’s elegant. The service staff were pretty decent.
The food. I ordered a salmon ‘dinner entree’. It was lunch, but I guess on the weekends they don’t have a lunch menu.
I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki entree. The salad was the best thing in the whole meal. The miso soup was pretty good. But the teriyaki sauce only added texture; there was no flavor. I also got the spicy tuna roll, and I hate to say that it was quite awful to look at and it tasted the same 🙁 My friend ordered the Dragon Roll, which was actually quite good but lacked crab (she said it usually comes with crab). She had the sizzling chicken dish and her chicken tasted somehow plain and burnt (despite copious amounts of unflavored sauce)
We were both surprised. I came at the recommendation of a friend, but it turned out to be probably the worst sushi I’ve ever had (at least the spicy tuna roll).
If I ever come here again, it’ll be because I’m invited by a friend and I’m too polite to decline, if it’s better in the future I’ll update my rating.
