Absolutely ridiculous food preparation and terrible customer service. I don’t ever write reviews good or bad but this one had me extremely upset considering the cost and poor quality. We spent $132 on 3 filet mignon hibachi meals, asked for fried rice only, cooked medium rare. When we arrived home the meal had noodles and the supposed filet mignon was very overcooked. The manager said it wasn’t overcooked but rather it was well done because the steam heated it for longer in transit to our home. Steam doesn’t char steak, over cooking it does. $132 for bland unflavored steak is beyond ridiculous. Not sure if they’ve changed ownership but the quality of food and service has gone down tremendously over the past 6 months with prices continuing to go up.

I was super excited for some good hibachi, it was very visually appealing. Unfortunately the shrimp was extremely dry and flavorless. The veggies tasted like it was cooked it old oil. The only good thing was the noodles.

Service was great, even though they were fairly busy we were seated quickly and served fast. I had the steak hibachi and it was excellent. Will definitely return when I’m in the area again.

This was our second time here. Last waiter we had was a very attentive young man. Attention to detail was his specialty. Even remembered our names and repeated before we left the restaurant. Today the food took a long time. We had to request for sushi trays, utensils and napkins. When we got our two orders of Agadashi to start the night the trays were served with no sauce and no extra plates for us to serve ourselves. I asked if there was a sauce that was still missing and the tall slender waitress said she wasnt sure it normally was served with any sauces.. We were a party of 6 but the extra plates never came so we all ate off the serving plate. Husband waited 20 mins for 2 piece tuna rolls. He ordered it twice and it took about 20 mins for the second order. We also had to ask for 3 orders of rolls that the waitress or cook must’ve forgotten. I cant complain about the Spicy tonkatsu ramen. That was delicious and came out relatively fast. It was a little greasier today but the flavor was definitely there. We’ll probably be back.. Just not too soon we live 45 mins away. We just had such a great experience last time we came we hoped for the same experience. Maybe next time…

Love this spot! Tons of options to pick from, plus you can custom-make your order too. Their ramen is perfect—not too big a portion. That way you can have both ramen AND sushi, best of both worlds! And the vibe here is so fun, totally worth coming back for.

Came here to have an early dinner with the fam. I ordered the shrimp ramen and my husband ordered the filet mignon hibachi. Both plates did not disappoint!!! The shrimp had a bit of a kick to it and it tasted so good! Our son had the regular chicken ramen which also did not disappoint!!

Our family of three had a great experience eating dinner here. We had a shrimp tempura roll, shoyu chicken ramen, shrimp fried rice, and hibachi chicken entree that also included a ginger salad and clear soup along with hibachi vegetables, fried rice and noodles. Everything was fast and fresh. Our servers were incredibly kind and took care of us the entire time. We were in and out pretty quickly, even for a Saturday night, and we went home with tons of leftovers as well. We look forward to returning again soon.

Stopped in with my family of 5 tonight (Sunday) at about 5:30pm. It was very busy but we were greeted about a couple minutes after we walked in. We weren’t sure whether to stay by the door or go up to register. (A sign would’ve be nice). We were told the wait would be 20 min so we waited. Then more people came in and there wasn’t a lot of space to stand and wait (just 2 chairs). We were finally seated about 20-25 min. Mood was great and we were ready to order up some ramen. However, shortly after sitting down, our server Reuben informed us that they were getting slammed with Ramen orders and recommended we stick with sushi or hibachi since the ramen would take “a bit longer.” I asked if he had a rough estimate time-wise and he said about 45 min to 1 hour! We thought that was too long after already being at the table so we swapped to sushi and hibachi. We only ordered 3 hibachi meals at the time because my wife was unsure what it was. But after 5 minutes of convincing her, I was able to get her a hibachi order placed 5 minutes after our initial order. The sushi came out quickly along with our appetizers (though the shrimp tempura came out late after the rest) and we were feeling great! We were excited to get our hibachi meals. After 20 min of finishing our appetizers and sushi, we noticed guests who were seated around the same time as us were being served ramen and we still hadn’t received our hibachi meals. The whole point of us switching our entire order from ramen to hibachi was to avoid a long wait time. Finally, after waiting about 45 min after ordering, we finally got 3 of our 4 hibachi meals! What was the point then of swapping out the ramen we really wanted?! And the hibachi meals were more expensive!! We shared the 3 meals, still hadn’t received my wife’s order until 1 hr later from the initial order!! By the time we received her meal, we had pay the check and already had our leftovers ready in to-go boxes and waited another 15 minutes to receive my wife’s meal, already prepped in a to-go container (how considerate). Server seemed very impartial to our experience. He asked how was the food and I said “it was alright.” His response “sorry to hear.” I told him we could’ve had ramen since the wait time was the same. He said “yeah, sorry about the wait, have a safe drive home.” We finally left around 7:15p.
Started out great but slowly went south. The only good thing was the Yum Yum sushi roll and appetizers. Steak hibachi that was ordered medium arrived well-done. Their fried rice looks more like soy sauce-soaked white rice with very little bits of egg.
Wished we had a better experience, but definitely left a sour taste for our family for the rest of the night.

We came in for lunch on a Saturday. It was fairly empty inside. You seat yourself. We were greeted by our server, who was quick and attentive during our visit. We choose their lunch special hibachi dishes. Salmon & shrimp were delicious with fried rice. The side sauces provided added the flavors of the dish to another level. Our kids got their sushi rolls, which were the only things we weren’t crazy about. The rice had little to no flavor, and it was barely sticking to the seaweed. It wasn’t our best sushi we’ve tasted here in SD. I wish we tried their ramen because that is what they are known for. Overall, the service was great, and the atmosphere was relaxing and upbeat. They were playing a football game, which was a perk for the hubby.

Sad. My family loved Okama. Under the old owners, I never had an issue getting to go orders in a reasonable amount of time. Tonight, I called in an order a little before 6pm. The person who answered the phone told me I had to order online. Great but I was driving so I asked if she could please take my order over the phone. She was lost, never gave me a time estimate on the order so I showed up half an hour later. When I arrived at 6:28, was told the order would be another 10-15 minutes. Went to sit in my car. Came back in 13 minutes later and was told it would be another 10 maybe 15 minutes. No thanks. Asked for a refund and have no desire to go back anytime soon. Bring back the old owners.
