The moment they arrived, steam rising like mystical aura energy, I knew I was not in the presence of an ordinary sandwich. No. This was a full-on shōnen protagonist entrance. The buns themselves? Pillowy clouds forged in the hidden village of Dough. Soft. Fluffy. Slightly sweet. They weren’t bread — they were emotional support companions cradling destiny.
And then… the pork.
Tender. Juicy. Glazed with a sauce so rich and savory it felt like unlocking a forbidden flavor technique passed down through generations. Each bite triggered a flashback arc. The caramelized edges hit with that crispy “CLANG!” sound effect you’d see in bold letters across the screen. Sweet, salty, umami it was a three-way combo attack that left me dramatically kneeling at the table whispering, “This power… it’s over 9000.”
Halfway through the second bao, I experienced what I can only describe as a transformation sequence. Aura blazin’, taste buds ascending, background music swelling. I wasn’t just eating anymore, I was training.
By the final bite, I felt victorious yet humbled. These Pork Bao Buns didn’t just satisfy hunger, they told a story. A saga, a legend passed down in whispers across late-night food quests.
Would I order them again?
Without hesitation. Without fear. Without limit.
10/10. I would pledge loyalty to this bao clan and defend its honor in the great culinary tournament arc.
Service is almost non existant. I asked the young lady if they got any wifi I could use since I just got here from Washington and Tmobile is really bad but she said she does not know the password. Fair.
No water served at all either. You put the dishes back to a basket they prep for you. The young lady never came up to you to ask if everything was good either. She was just on the phone call with someone almost the entire time and went back inside, no one else was outside until a new customer showed up and a different lady came up to greet them. I shouldve given no tips tbh but it is what it is.
Would I come back? Maybe, in the far future. But only to go. Oh they charge $1.50 for to go.
Pricing is alright. Definitely cannot compare this to anything like Tatsu ramen, Tsujita or Kizuki.
It’s 3.5 out of 5 at best. People who give 5 out of 5 for their ramen really have never tasted other ramen in the West Coast.
I wanted to add a little “edit” after reading some of “not so great” reviews. We lived in Japan for 3 years and Oishi Kitchen is as close as we found to traditional Japanese Ramen. Someone wrote the eggs were rubbery and I think they also said discolored… Duh!!! It’s been marinated, that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be. I ordered extra eggs after eating one bite of one. I guess it upsets me when someone reviews specific foods they’ve never tried in the original country and know nothing about!
Let’s be honest, there aren’t a ton of great restaurants in this silly little town of Fairbanks but Oishi Kitchen is one of them! Absolutely delicious
Lastly, I don’t care where you order food from, take out will never ever be as good as dine in! Food tastes better fresh in ceramic dishes than Styrofoam…. That’s just a fact!
I paired the vegetables gyoza and kombucha set, it turned out to very tasty too.
Edamame’s portion is way bigger than the normal appetizer based on its price.
Really love this gem restaurant, will visit again when I’m in Fairbanks.
