My wife and I visit Maui every year and have our own firm list of Maui restaurants that we regularly dine at, for the past 10+ years. Today, my wife found a restaurant on Google that sounded interesting, OGO in Wailuku. The restaurant was located in an area that I would not expect a restaurant to be, with the exterior very non assuming. We thought, let’s give it a try.

The interior was cozy, with a wall filled with signatures of their customers, cleaver. The server Anna knew the menu well, was very friendly and so nice, Hawaiian nice. She suggested their most popular dish, OGO’s oxtail katsu. It was so creative, tasty oxtail with a special katsu batter. She was right on. We also had the seared hamachi roll, it was so fresh. True story, my wife and I just came back from 10 days in Japan and had sushi at least half the time. I feel that the OGO seared hamachi roll was tastier than any of the sushi I had in Japan. We also met Chef Grant Oura, da man, who was kind enough to come out of the kitchen to speak to us. He was very nice as well. We found out that the restaurant has been at this location for just four months. I feel the best restaurants are the ones that become known by word of mouth, this is definitely the case here. I have no doubt they will be successful.

It is hard for any new restaurants to break into our top Maui list of restaurants but OGO is definitely on the list now.

We found this place after reading a couple of reviews online. Looks like it’s fairly new and it’s sort of tucked away from the road (so if you drive by quickly or at night, very easy to miss). We went by for dinner and grabbed some food to go. Service was great – very friendly staff and efficient.

Dishes:
1) Pohole fern and spring mix salad 5/5 – comes with a balsamic vinaigrette. I loved it! Might not be for everyone but the dressing was on point and it had some fund ingredients.
2) Lobster dynamite 4/5 – these are baked rolls which were super tasty. I just wish they hadn’t put so much of the cream sauce on top.
3) Korean chicken and tutu karen okra’s dry mein 5/5 – the chicken was on point and the noodles are (as listed) a bit on the drier side but it all goes well together.

I would definitely go back and try the other dishes + their lunch menu!

This place is a great hidden little gem. The food is super tasty, featuring well executed local classics like loco moco and Korean fried chicken as well as innovative dishes like their ox tail katsu which has a delightful crust hiding a meaty and satisfying oxtail inside. Another nice touch is the pesto in their Mac salad which really puts it over the top!

Gourmet food at unbelievably affordable prices. The miso fish and the oxtail katsu were fantastic, perfectly prepared and served with a warm smile. Highly recommend.

We chose this restaurant because they are close to the airport.
We had the Korean fried chicken, boneless short rib, tempura fried ribs, sidewinder fries, seared ahi sushi, Chantilly cake and guava chiffon cake. The food is simply amazing. Everything was very good. Highlights were the Korean fried chicken, the sushi and the Chantilly cake. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Just go! You won’t be disappointed!

I have been a loyal customer since they were serving food out of there food truck over by Maui lani ace. So I was thrilled to see that they had gotten a brick and mortar spot because depending on my schedule I would miss them when they were in the food truck. I have eaten here on 4 or 5 different occasions so far and every time I eat here it is incredible. I love the flavors of the different dishes. One of my favorite ones is the Hamachi with the shave ice ponzu. I have tried this dish at many different places they out the islands and up and down the west coast. I think this is one of the best presentation and flavor profiles that I have had. I can say I have had almost everything on the menu and have enjoyed every meal. You won’t be sorry no matter what you order. If it’s your first time ask the waitress she is always super helpful and takes good care of us. I can’t wait to have dinner or lunch there again.

Me & my fiancé came to OGO’s for Valentine’s Day, & let me say it was one of the best places we have ever ate in a long time. My fiancé ordered the veal with mushroom risotto and omg! The veal was so tender and soft! You just touched it with the tip of your fork and it started falling off the bone! I had the special, steak with crab on top and it was so delicious! Everything was filling! We had awesome service, & the atmosphere was wonderful. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone who’s looking to eat good food. We had an awesome time & we will definitely be back!

Food: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: The food was pretty standard fare.

The extended review…

Food:

Oxtail Katsu – 3/5 – I was super excited about this. I think what I didn’t like too much about it was the breading was pretty thick. I was looking more for the oxtail and it sort of got lost in the dish.

Sidewinder Truffle Fries – 3/5 – Nice and crispy. Pretty standard fare for fries.

Service: 4/5 – Friendly service.
