This is a great little place right before you get into newport coming from waldport. My wife and I had lunch here today, and it was fantastic. I had their version of the captains platter and it was absolutley great. My wife had a garlic lovers burger and she absolutley enjoyed it. The atmosphere was perfect, not to loud, tvs all over the place, the natural light was perfect. And then there was our server, He was a man with facial hair and had a spider tattoo on his neck I believe, anyways he was awesome very nice very polite not pushy just an awesome individual with absolute great service and as I was leaving he was giving his cooking team props and thanks for how good they were doing I hope he sees this and knows he is doing awesome. And afterwards we went into the candy shop next door and got some fudge

We were there at 3pm on Thursday January 22nd 2026. I had been craving a prime rib dip sandwich and we were looking through menus for restaraunts that had prime rib dips and clam chowder on the menu. They had both! We ordered a prime rib dip, onion rings and slumgullion chowder. Everything was really good! Waitress waa great! Food was served hot within 15-20 minutes! Will be back! Wasn’t super spendy. Will be back for sure!

Best French Dip I’ve had… ever. My husband ate his Peanut Butter Cheeseburger so fast… you don’t get to see a photo! The poutine was a unique take with a chicken gravy… and SO delicious. We didn’t see the cheese curds (did they melt? Were they tiny? Forgotten?) But the gravy was so delicious we didn’t care.
We were also both surprised we liked the fries… a creative cut that manages to stay crispy with a fluffy inside.
The place was full (it was January- no reason to be so crazy full and yet it WAS!) and understaffed. The miraculous guy that served us stayed on top of things. We had to wait a bit, but we got full service- drink refills and piping hot food served fresh!
Highly recommend.
(Just don’t go the same day as us… we want a table too…)

Honest review…the food was decent, but not impressive. The Halibut and Chips was dry, and when I inquired about the portions I was responded with, “it’s sold by weight”. For almost $30 I expect a fair portion, fresh and properly breaded. The chowder was good, but the popcorn shrimp still had tails on (we had ordered for the kid, he’s used to them being off so our fault for not asking). See notes on Kid Friendly options, not sure if the candy shop is the same owner or not but was less than impressed.

Came to watch the Broncos vs Bill’s game. They set me up in a booth in the Bar! Great view of the screen! Bar tender Tristan was amazing! Gave me tastes of drafts to choose from. Got the Dragons tooth stout! Fish and chips was crispy and juicy! Chips were big and delicious! 2 lemon slices which were perfect! Malt vinegar on the side.
Perfect ambiance of decor and you’ve got the spot!!!
Stop here when you come to Newport! The menu has a great variety of seafood and burgers to choose from!

This is probably my favorite place to eat along the central Oregon coast. The clam chowder is super good and the poutine is absolutely delicious! It’s very family friendly, and the kid’s menu has a good variety of classic grill items to choose from. We were very pleased and impressed with the quality of service and food here. Did I mention they have some awesome garlic bread too?! The restaurant itself was clean and inviting, the restrooms were some of the cleanest I’ve seen in the area, and the vibe is casual and comfortable. It’s a nice place to break from all the crowded places you typically find in Newport, and so very worth it. The menu is reasonably priced and truly has a great value for what you get. If you’re looking for a good spot to go feed the family or relax in a corner booth by yourself, give this place a try!

I just had the best meal I may have ever had on the Oregon coast! I ordered a side of the catch of the day (rockfish) fried with Cajun seasoning over mashed potatoes covered with a bowl of their crawfish etoufee! It was absolutely amazing!

Off the hook restaurant was a good place to eat. There was one waiter in 1 waitress that I could see in they seemed very busy. The guy who helped us was very helpful. We started with crab cakes. They tasted good, not super good, just good. I did get some pieces of shell or something very hard in mine. The housemaid tartar sauce tastes like Dill relish and mayo to me. It’s not bad it’s just standard. I had the Ruby’s pork Mac and cheese. It was good a little bland the noodles were cooked nicely, not too much cheese sauce and the pork was okay on top.
I can’t complain about it. It was a little better than standard. I feel like kids would love this dish. You can get it with or without the barbecue sauce on the pork. Next, I had the halibut fish and chips. The chips that come with this meal are awesome. The halibut is not worth the $26.99. I feel it was slightly overcooked. The fish was dry. I have definitely had worse, and yes, I would try this again. We did have a small mishap. The end of the ketchup squeezy tube popped off when we were trying to get ketchup on our plate, and we ended up with most of the bottle on our plate. Last but not least, we had the patty melt messy and delicious. This was served with the same chips or fries that come with the halibut. And they are delicious. I definitely would not shy away from stopping here and trying Off The Hook. The parking lot is a little cramped.

Sorry to say, I had fish and chips. The fish was flat and very dry. My experience is usually something more moist and crispy. Weird on the coast…

We have eaten here a few times when we are in Newport and really enjoy it. The food has consistently been great – oyster shooters, fish and chips and fish sandwich with the grilled fish. The “chips” are pretty unique, a cross between potato chips and French fries; we love them. Our waiter this last time was fantastic. His section filled up as we were eating, but he was able to take care of everyone without losing a beat! This place is our go to when we are in town.
