Celebrated my wife’s birthday here and had the best meal of our lives. It is pricey so I can’t believe I’m saying this—it was worth every penny. The food, drinks, service, and vibes were phenomenal. If you are looking for a unique and high-end culinary experience to celebrate a special occasion, look no further. Thank you to all of the staff at OEN for an amazing time!

We were treated to an exceptional and unique culinary experience. The food was absolutely delicious and visually stunning. Every dish was flawless. Chef Morimoto and his team demonstrated exceptional service, they made sure every need was meticulously attended to. They created a sophisticated atmosphere that was both refined, fun, and enjoyable, allowing guests to indulge in Chef’s outstanding creations. My husband and I truly loved it! We were lucky to be seated right in front of Chef’s cooking area. The attention to detail was impeccable, from the elegant place settings and refined glassware to the lovely dishes and beautiful kimonos repurposed as placemats…it was truly remarkable. Thank you for a phenomenal evening. ごtちそうさまでした

The service was amazing. The service staff were very attentive and pay attention to lots of little details including overhearing us discussing Foods and possibly changing the menu around a little bit even for us. The quality of the ingredients overall was amazing. This was definitely one of the top two meals we’ve had in New Jersey. My only big disappointment was Morimoto was not there himself. I did get that impression from reviews and the description on the website. The head chef was very communicative and knew and great detail about the foods and preparations.

A Tokyo caliber high-society private dining experience right here in Jersey. The omakase counter transports you with its traditional aesthetic and exquisite flavors. Each course is a masterpiece of artistry by Iron Chef Morimoto. Chef and his team perform with Kitchen Stadium flair, explaining every meticulously crafted dish, from seasonal Japanese ingredients to non-traditional cooking techniques. The attention to detail, hand painted ceramics, curated aura, is unmatched. No need to fly to Japan; this is world class omakase at its finest! MUST GO, if you’re a food geek.

High end omakase experience without traveling to NYC. Come hungry as the portions and courses are borderline indulgent. 5 star service

Outstanding! I will start by saying I am a Chef and work with a very talented Sushi Chef from Japan so I was very familiar with this style of food and all the ingredients that were used to prepare this meal. We were lucky enough to have all our food prepared by Master Chef Morimoto and he did not disappoint. He took some very humble, traditional Japanese dishes and elevated them to a whole new level. Chef Morimoto explained each dish after every course and even answered questions from the guests. The food and service were impeccable from the moment we walked in being greeted with a welcome cocktail in the lounge area. This was such a memorable experience for me. Great job to Chef Morimoto and his team.

I’ve dined at many high-end tasting menus, including those priced over $200 per person, and this experience—at over $300 per person with tip and service—was by far the most disappointing. While the food itself was tasty, the execution, professionalism, and overall handling were completely unacceptable for the price point.

From the beginning, the chefs showed a surprising level of disorganization. After miscounting sushi pieces, one chef shrugged and said “I can’t count,” followed by giggles and grimacing smiles. This attitude continued throughout the meal, with careless mistakes dismissed as jokes.

Major issues included:

Pieces of scallion mixed into my ginger

Miscounted portions multiple times

Unevenly cut sushi pieces

Wagyu shabu shabu served with boiling hot water splashing everywhere—extremely unsafe

Extra chu-toro handed randomly to a guest because they “had extra”

Chefs repeatedly checking the printed menu because they couldn’t remember the dish descriptions

Poor communication and no synergy between the two chefs, resulting in awkward, unprofessional interactions

Sauces sloppily dripped around plates

Cooked toro handled unevenly while one chef complained aloud about how hot it was, even resorting to cutting with chopsticks

Incorrect information given about fish origins

Repeatedly forgetting to introduce courses until prompted

Frequent spilling of sauces and teas

Loud, disruptive noise coming from the back kitchen

Lack of explanation and inconsistent serving:
There were multiple points where the chefs failed to explain how a dish should be eaten, and this directly impacted the experience. For example, we received a boiling sauce with lobster but they never explained that the lobster was meant to be placed into the sauce while it cooked. We also received extra pieces of dishes at random moments without context or instruction.

In another instance, my husband finished his sauce because it was never explained that rice and bread would later be served specifically to pair with that sauce, which made the course confusing and ultimately disappointing. These omissions showed a lack of awareness and professionalism that severely detracted from what should have been a cohesive omakase experience.

It’s clear that the chefs currently running the counter are not delivering the standard reflected in the positive reviews—reviews that seem to come from nights when Chef Morimoto himself is present.

Saving grace:
The front-of-house staff were excellent. Drink service was smooth, attentive, and professional. Yasu-san, the manager who oversees Morimoto’s Japan locations, was doing everything he could to maintain hospitality despite the chaos behind the counter. It was difficult to watch the stress on his face as he tried to compensate for the chefs’ mistakes.

While the flavors were good, the sloppy preparation, lack of communication, and overall unprofessionalism overshadowed the food entirely. If you regularly dine in NYC or have experienced high-quality omakase, stay away from here unless you want to gamble on having Morimoto himself present. For the price, this was a deeply disappointing and unacceptable experience.
