Review of Odelay Tex-Mex in Dallas – Texas Monthly

Even though Odelay has many stellar dishes, including the chili con carne enchilada, its artful homages to cartel culture prove unappetizing.

***** Critics Review *****
Great decor, so-so food, expensive drinks.

Beef Enchilada
The chili con carne sauce is very dense (chunky) compared to traditional chili con carne sauce that is a little bit more fluid and richer flavor. It’s more of a creative twist than traditional. Filling is nicely seasoned, it was moist but for some reason, it tasted dry. Not sure how that happens. Kind of strange. Score 6/10.

Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada:
Very tasty. The chicken is moist and seasoned. However, the sauce breaks apart within minutes. You don’t pick up very much sour in the sauce – it need more. Score 7/10.

Frozen Strawberry Margarita:
Nice overall, good tequila profile, good flavor, and not too sweet. Enjoyable, but nothing special – and 1/2 the amount other places serve. Expensive too. Score 7/10.

Atmosphere:
Vibrant hot shop vibe. Crowded and people knew each other. Nice decor and very appealing. Score 9/10

Overall:
Fun place but food is nothing special. Drinks are expensive.
Score 7/10

We loved this place! The drinks, the food, totally hit the spot. We came here after picking up my Lexus from its routine service. The salsa was perfect, my husband had the tacos, and I have empanadas. Both brisket. So good! We are definitely looking forward to coming back soon.

Good food and great service in an amazing atmosphere. It was my first time here after hearing about people online raving about the chicken Caesar wrap. I ordered it with a mango margarita. I’ll be back to try the brisket tacos next.

Mexican here is commercial. Me and my partner mistakenly came to this place thinking it was Escondido when we got here we were like we’ll give it a chance. The chips were hot and fresh but still had a stale texture about them. I got the chicken fajita plate, the food came out within five minutes that’s always alarming to me. The food was hot but not just cooked hot, chicken was dry ands lacked flavor, the rice was lukewarm ands I didn’t taste the beans cause I assumed it would be not tasty. The service was eh ok… the pricing does not match the food… the margarita we had was pretty strong…. Nice lil atmosphere…. All in all in would not return

Odelay restaurant on Lovers Lane east of Inwood Village has a large and inviting sidewalk patio which is sheltered from the western sun and has a nice ambiance. Most of the guests today were inside since it was a very warm day.

We sat on the patio, where a small inverted fan was placed on the table to shoo away a pesky fly. I had never seen such a device which did its job perfectly. Service overall was excellent.

We had various snacks, including a cup of tortilla soup which was tasty but unlike any I have had before. It was an old 1989 recipe which was oddly more of a creamed tomato sauce rather than a soup. It was topped with slices of avocado, tiny grilled chicken and corn chip strips. Enchiladas were good and so was the queso with meat dip and corn chips.

The amount of effort they put for the decorations for both indoor and patio is amazing tho their service and food is average. Front counter ladies were quite rude— I strongly recommend to teach them a good greeting manners for your restaurant. The entire place is super super loud, you can barely hear what your party members say. People are for some reason shouting each other lol anyway, their complimentary chip was very crunchy tho their salsa, guacamole, and queso were all very blend and mediocre (especially guacamole was almost tasteless..) I got gorditas with wagyu and brisket, and could not tell the difference between two different meats. I wouldn’t expect a good wagyu taco here. Mexican rice was good, bean was average good. Quatro was overall just okay. Drink was also just fine alright. Service and food wise I would give three stars but giving four because of their outstanding interior and exterior designs. It was a good place to try out but would not come back here knowing there are so many better restaurants than this place..

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cat Robles at Odelay’s is AMAZING! Every time I’ve called for a catering, she has been incredibly sweet, professional, and on top of everything. She’s the type of person who not only makes you feel welcome — but actually gets things DONE, and fast! You can tell she genuinely cares about the guest experience and takes pride in her role.

Front of House runs smoothly because of her — and it shows.

Thank you Cat for always creating great hospitality vibes! ✨

This food is so amazing!! Seasoned to perfection! Ordered a Chile Relleno with shrimp, rice was very good. Hubs ordered the brisket taco w eggs (brunch menu). Our waiter was Pedro and he is extremely knowledgeable about the menu. He’s the best! Atmosphere was nice and chill!

My boyfriend and I ordered the ribeye fajitas and the popular Caesar wrap. Honestly, the wrap was good but it wasn’t giving Caesar for me personally. I’m rating this place 5 stars because that ribeye was absolutely insane…we will definitely be back!
